View MoreI am Samantha Perez.
I have big dreams for my parents. I want to be rich, so I applied and started working at a casino in Makati. That’s where I met the man who would steal my heart—and eventually break it. His name is Gabriel Bustamante, son of a wealthy billionaire. Handsome, strong, and a bit of a bad boy—he loved casinos. I’ve always been picky with men and never allowed myself to be fooled… but somehow, he was the only one I ever fell for. This is where my story begins.
“Samantha, the boss is looking for you,” one of my co-workers called out.
“Erika, just tell him I’ll be there later. I’m finishing something,” I replied.
“Hey, did you know the boss has someone with him—and he’s handsome,” Erika teased.
But I wasn’t interested.“Ugh, come on. I’m used to seeing faces like that every day,” I answered, unfazed.
Then suddenly, my boss walked in, and with him was a tall, handsome, and well-built man. I froze. I couldn’t stop staring at him as I cleaned the glass in my hand.
“Samantha, this is Gabriel. He’s the son of the casino owner's friend.”
“Hi, Samantha!” Gabriel greeted with a wink.
It took me a while to respond.
“Hey! He said Samantha!” Erika nudged me.
“Ah—hello…” I finally said. Then he took my hand and kissed it. I quickly pulled it back, my cheeks turning red from what he just did.
“By the way, Miss Beautiful, my name is Gabriel,” he said charmingly.
I pretended not to care.
“You heard that? Gabriel,” Erika whispered.
“Yeah, I heard him earlier. The boss’s friend,” I muttered.
“Oh, Samantha, take care of Gabriel later and give him a beer,” the boss instructed before leaving.
“Yes, Sir...” I replied. Erika couldn’t help teasing me.
“So busy, huh? LOL! Not too busy for someone handsome!”
“Be quiet, Erika! Someone might hear you—it’s embarrassing. Okay, fine, he is handsome. I just thought he’d be like the other guests we have here. Their faces get boring after a while.”
Meanwhile, Gabriel and his uncle were having a conversation while being given a tour of the casino.
“Tito, I like Samantha,” Gabriel said.
“I knew you’d say that. A lot of guys like her, but she’s picky. And it seems like she might like you too. But Samantha’s not like the other women here—she has big dreams for her family and doesn’t easily fall for men. She’s tough. One time, a guy tried to take her out—she beat him up,” his uncle shared.
“Really, Tito? Maybe I want to get beaten up too!” he joked.
“Are you planning to court her?” his uncle asked.
“Not yet, Tito. It’s too soon,” Gabriel said with a grin, and they both laughed.
“You haven’t changed—you’re still the same troublemaker Gabriel I know,” his uncle said.
“Looks like I’ll be coming here more often. Maybe I’m the one she’s waiting for,” Gabriel said.
“You’re still such a womanizer,” his uncle teased.
“Just a little. I’ve changed… a bit,” Gabriel laughed.
“Son, I have to go now. Just enjoy and play around here as much as you want. Samantha finishes her shift around ten. Sometimes she stays late if it’s busy. Alright, I’m off,” his uncle said as he left.
“Ah, sir… here’s your beer,” I called out to Gabriel while he was playing.
“Samantha, why’d you leave? You just wanted to come closer to me, didn’t you?” he teased playfully.
I smiled a little.
“Excuse me! I only came here because your beer was getting warm. I’m a cashier, and since it was taking you too long to show up, I brought it here,” I explained.“You don’t need to explain, Samantha.” He smiled again.
“Why are you smiling like that?” I asked as he took a sip of beer.
“Nothing. It’s just… you’re beautiful. Being grumpy doesn’t suit you.”
I raised an eyebrow and walked away.“I feel something strange… something different…” I muttered to myself.
“Shhh! Be quiet, Erika. He might hear you and think I like him!”
“Well… don’t you?” she asked.
“No! I’m not that easy. Just because he’s rich, handsome, and everything I’d want in a guy, doesn’t mean I’ll just fall for him. No way!”
“You’re such a good girl,” Erika smiled.
“Let’s clean up so we can finish early and go home,” I told our coworkers.
“No one’s coming home with you, right?” Erika teased again.
Right on time, it was ten o’clock and Erika had finished her shift. Gabriel, who had noticed I was getting ready to leave, went out and waited for me in his car. When he saw me walking out of the casino, he called out to me.
“Samantha! Samantha!”
As I walked, I heard someone calling my name. I looked around.
“Samantha! I’m here!” Gabriel waved from his car.
“If you think just because you have a car I’ll go with you, you’re wrong!”
“I just want to take you home. It’s late and there’s no one around—it’s dangerous,” he said.
“I’ll just walk and wait for a ride,” I replied.
As I walked, Gabriel suddenly got out of the car and followed me. Then he suddenly picked me up and carried me into his car.
“Is this a kidnapping?!” I shouted.
“How could I kidnap you? Do you even have money?” he laughed.
“Maybe you’re a rapist!”
“Do I look like a rapist? I just want to give you a ride, Samantha. Don’t flatter yourself.”
He seemed a little annoyed.“Fine. Just take me to Quirino.”
“You’re kidding. That’s just around the corner!” he laughed, realizing how close it was.
“Do you rent there?” he asked.
“Yes. We’re actually from Cebu.”
“That’s far. Alright, we’re here.”
He didn’t even open the door for me.“You went through all that trouble to drive me… should’ve just let me walk.”
“See you tomorrow night, Samantha.”
I got out without replying. But when I lay in bed, there was a strange giddiness inside me. I kept imagining his face, his body… even the scent of his cologne that had rubbed off on my clothes.
“I wonder if I’ll see Gabriel again tomorrow…” I whispered to myself, before finally drifting off to sleep.
“Nay, Gabriel and I are leaving now, please take care of things here with Tatay,” Samantha said before they left.“Say goodbye to Tintin first, anak. She might look for you when she wakes up.”“Alright, Nay.”Samantha and Gabriel went upstairs to say goodbye to their daughter.“Tintin?”“Mama?”“Papa and I need to go to work for a while, anak. Is it okay with you?”“Yes, Mama. Lola and Lolo are here anyway.”“Thank you, anak. Papa and I will be back, and after that, we’ll go out together with your grandparents, alright?”“Really, Mama?”“Yes. But don’t forget to take your medicine while we’re gone. Eat your gummies and fruits too, so you’ll be stronger when we come back. That way, we can go out right away.”“Yes, Mama.”“I love you, anak.”“I love you too, Mama.”Samantha and Gabriel embraced their daughter before finally leaving. On the way, Gabriel said, “Samantha, if you can’t keep working anymore, then just stay home with our daughter. I’ll be the one to explain everything. Our ch
“Nay, Gabriel’s here,” Samantha said as she heard the car pulling into the garage.“Alright, so we can finally talk to Tintin’s father.”Samantha opened the door for Gabriel, who looked a little hesitant to step inside after learning her parents were already there having dinner.“I feel nervous about meeting your parents, Samantha,” he admitted.“It’s fine, Gabriel, they’re kind people. Come inside.”“Good evening,” Gabriel greeted politely.“Good evening to you too, Gabriel,” Samantha’s mother replied warmly, while her father simply gave him a nod. “Come, hijo, eat with us,” her mother added.“Perfect timing, I’m hungry as well,” Gabriel said. But before he could even take a spoonful of food, Samantha’s mother couldn’t stop herself from asking the question on her mind.“Hijo, why did you only come back now for your child and Samantha?” she asked seriously.“Ah… I was in the US for a long time, and I didn’t know Samantha was pregnant when I left. I also didn’t expect that we’d meet ag
“Nanay, I’ve already bought your and Tatay’s tickets for tomorrow’s trip. I’ll also send you some pocket money and taxi fare so you can come straight here to our new house.”“Child, aren’t you working anymore?”“I’ll explain everything to you here at home, Nay.”“Alright, anak.”“I already sent the tickets to your Messenger. Please be careful on your trip, Nay, because Tintin can’t wait to see you.”“Poor dear grandchild of mine. How is she doing, anak?” her mother asked with worry.“She’s here, Nay, resting. She gets tired so easily. Next week is her hospital check-up with the doctor.”“Alright, anak. While you’re at work, I’ll take care of her.”“Thank you, Inay.”Meanwhile, Jennifer still couldn’t rest easy. She had a strange feeling inside her and desperately wanted to return to the Philippines.“Daughter, is something wrong?”“Mommy, no… I’m just thinking about my work in the Philippines. I think I need to go back as soon as possible.”“Is it really work? You never had problems w
“Tintin, I’ll call your grandma so they can come here already. I’ll also send their ticket through Messenger so they can show it at the airport. Am I right, Gabriel?” she asked, making sure.“Ah, yes, that’s right. Uhm… Samantha, can we go out to the casino once Tintin is feeling better?”“Of course, that’s fine. But it would be much better if Jennifer already knew about us, and your parents too, so at least we wouldn’t be hiding anything anymore,” she explained.“Well, you’re right about that. We really need to tell them so that we can be free, with nothing to hide or avoid.”Tintin overheard their conversation and asked, curious.“Mama, why are we hiding? Did we do something wrong?”“No, sweetheart. One day you’ll understand why we said that. By the way, tomorrow your grandma and grandpa will arrive, and while they’re here, Papa and I will still have to work, okay?”“That’s fine, Mama. Grandma and Grandpa will be here, so I won’t be alone.”“Thank you, my child, for understanding.”
“It seems someone rang the doorbell. Wait here, sweetheart, I’ll go check outside.”When she peeked, it was indeed Erika.“Erika!”“Samantha, wow… your best friend is living so lavishly, so rich…”“Oh, what are you saying? This isn’t mine, it’s for Tintin.”“So… what are you here then, a helper again?” Erika sighed.“Come on, come in.”“Hi… this child is so lucky, a billionaire’s daughter.”“Hi, Auntie, how are you?”“Can I apply here as your maid, Tintin?” Erika joked.“No, Auntie, you’re Mama’s guest.”“There, see? You’re just a guest here, so come on, let’s eat. Sweetheart, sit here.”“Aren’t we going to wait for Papa?” Tintin asked her mother.“Sweetheart… Papa will be home later, but Mama saved some food so we can still eat with him.”“Really, Mama?”“Yes, so let’s eat now.”“You prepared so much food, bestie…”“I knew you were coming.”“Come on… is this really for me or for Gabriel? By the way, does Jennifer know about this already? And what about your job, are you leaving?”“Sh
“O, son, how are things? Have you already solved the problem in our company? Because lately, you’ve been very busy,” said one of their investors.“I’m so sorry, sir… I just had something very important to take care of,” he explained.“More important than your business?”“Because someday, she will be the heir of all this. That’s why she’s more important than anything.”“Okay, son, I don’t know who that lucky girl is. But I agree, there are things in life that are more important that we need to prioritize.”“Thank you, sir, for understanding me. But I’m working on making our products number one again.”“Very good, son. I won’t keep you long. If there’s any problem and you need my help, I’ll always be here.”“Thank you very much, sir.” Then the board members of their company left, and his cellphone rang.“Hello?”“It’s me, babe. Don’t you recognize my bosses? Hey, babe, it’s just been a month and you’ve already forgotten my bosses.”“I’m sorry, babe, I didn’t notice. I just answered the
