LOGINEmile and Abbey reached their first destination, Mauritius around midday. Having no plan was the best plan. The two best friends decided to chill at the world class hotel they booked into on the first day before getting into touristy mode and booked themselves into an indulgent beauty saloon for a relaxing massage after a sumptuous feast.
The next five days were jam-packed with activities starting a luxurious catamaran cruise of the northern islands. Abbey’s camera lens snapped away at the breath-taking views while Emile immersed herself in the experience. This was her first time travelling away from home, away from comfort zone; She had always lived a protected life with her grandfather and cousins where university was the furthest, she travelled away from home.
Every experience was new and invigorating, opening a whole new world, whether it was admiring the vibrant colors of the ocean or the magnificent mountain views or snorkeling at one of the beaches, diving with Emperor Angelfish, Moorish Idol or the green turtle. She didn’t forget to add designs to her pocketbook from the never ending inspirations of the visual feast.
Next, they decided to book themselves on a two-day picturesque South Tour Of Mauritius but were unable to get the booking due to high demand. They booked the trip for the next day and decided to take it easy strolling the streets to enjoy the local intricacies. Once the day was sorted, they planned to have breakfast at the hotel before heading out and decided to meet at the restaurant.
Emerging out of the elevator, Emile was stunned to see a familiar figure checking out at the reception desk. She walked forward excited to see a familiar face in a foreign land.
“Christopher, it that you?” Emile blurted out in excitement as the figure turned around and hurried to his side.
Christopher’s face blushed with embarrassment, as his eyes darted like a thief caught at the scene of crime but soon covered it up with a cough as he turned to face Emile.
“What a surprise?” Abbey’s shriek came from the side before Christopher had a chance to fully recover his shock of being caught by the two.
“Hi there, you two.” Christopher smiled sheepishly.
“What a coincidence, running into you here?” Abbey smirked as she lifted her eyebrows meaningfully.
“Yeah… what a coincidence considering the odds.” Christopher smirked cheekily, not forgetting to throw a secret glance at Emile.
Christopher’s affection for Emile was no secret at university. Everyone except Emile knew about it. The only reason Emile didn’t know was because she had eyes only for Daniel and Christopher was one of those super nice seniors in her view. She only realized it in her final year when Christopher mustered the courage to confess.
He kept in touch with the duo with hopes that Emile would consider him even after he was rejected till Emile got married. After her marriage he decided to bless her happiness and disappeared into the shadows of her life. Although he never interacted with her after her marriage, every pulse in her life was under his radar. Many a times he had to fight the impulse to kill Daniel and kidnap her from her own nightmare. But this was his secret, one that only his best friend Adrian knew.
“Really cool….” Emile smiled happily as she asked, “Are here on work or vacation?”
“Actually no… I lied.” Christopher pursed his lips as he decided he would come clean.
“Huh?”
“I heard you got divorced and ran away from home.” Christopher rubbed his nose awkwardly and continued “I was too anxious and didn’t check the itinerary closely and came to see if you are alright.”
Abbey had an ‘I knew it’ smirk while Emile was still in a state of confused shock.
“Don’t get me wrong.” Christopher hurried to explain himself “I didn’t think of taking advantage of your situation. I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“I figured you were when I saw Abbey was here to give you company and hence decided to go back before getting caught.” Christopher shrugged “A plan that failed with a bang.”
Abbey burst out laughing looking at Christopher’s vexed face while Emile’s face also brightened with a smile.
“No one’s blaming you.” Abbey spoke through intermittent bouts of laughter “Why are you in a rush to defend yourself?”
Christopher scratched the back of his head with an awkward smirk; This was not part of the plan. He was meant to be gone before anyone knew he was here. Forget about anyone knowing, he was caught red-handed by the person he least wanted to know.
“It’s cool.” Emile shrugged trying to ease the awkwardness.
“Are you still leaving?” Abbey raised her eyebrows “If you still have holidays and don’t need to be anywhere else, you can join us considering your stealth mode was an epic failure.”
Christopher laughed awkwardly as he turned to look at Emile. There was nothing he wanted to do more than being with her but only on the premises that she was comfortable.
“Sure… the more the merrier.” Emile laughed lightly although she didn’t forget to give an angry glare towards Abbey who conveniently ignored her.
Abbey had always wanted to matchmaker Emile with Christopher who she thought was more suitable for Emile. Whether it was in terms of looks or social status, both Daniel and Christopher were evenly matched. What tipped Abbey’s scales towards Christopher was his single-minded affection for Emile which anyone could see. What made her even more impressed was the fact that not only did Christopher give his blessings after Emile got married, but he also never changed his mind nor the extent of his affection. Why would she miss an opportunity that fate bestowed?
“Alright then.” Christopher agreed happily and returned to the front desk to proceed with re-checking himself into the hotel. They planned to meet at the entrance once he settled down and went to get breakfast.
Although Emile felt a little awkward in the beginning, the bustle of the streets and Christopher’s mannerism of not giving her any pressure soon eased her awkwardness. The ladies had a fantastic time of going crazy and Christopher became the designated porter.
“What are we doing for dinner?” Abbey asked happily as they decided to put an end to Christopher’s misery.
“Anything that doesn’t need me to walk another inch.” Emile grumbled although there was a satisfied expression on her face.
“How about barbeque?” Christopher asked as he thought about the place, he had dinner yesterday. The small street-side stall was recommended by the hotel concierge and had lived up to the hype.
“Anything will do.” Abbey made an exaggerated expression as she rubbed her tummy “I am starving; I could eat a lion.”
Emile nodded in agreement; She wanted to experience the local cuisine and what better way than street-side stalls?
Luckily for the three, the dinner rush hadn’t started, and they quickly found a quiet corner and ordered to their heart’s content.
“Luck is on our side.” Christopher laughed as he told the ladies how he didn’t manage to get a spot to sit when he came yesterday and had to head back to his hotel room with the takeaway container.
“This is delish…” Abbey mouthed as she ate her first bite.
“Ummm…” Emile agreed as she concentrated on eating. Both Emile and Abbey were absolute foodies, and nothing could divert their attention once there was food. Even so, Abbey didn’t forget to remind Christopher to book the tour for tomorrow if he wanted to join them.
Dear Readers, Apologies... I have not been able to upload for the past few days due to being down with flu. Hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing. Happy reading :)
“Tonight, you’ll learn what that costs.”The words echoed in Carl’s ears… the words seemed ethereal, as though they were coming from another dimension. He had not fully regained his senses from the visual impact created by the presence of the man who seated, like an emperor, life and death balanced effortlessly in his hands, when the words were spoken.Once the staff left and the man sat down, everything became a blur. He had no idea when Mr Walter left the room nor when these people arrived. But he knew one thing for sure… today was not just judgement day, it was also doomsday for him.He didn’t know when he had dropped to his knees… but now, he was kneeling before the Night Lord, who is also known as the Demon emperor of the Night Empire. Chris was no longer in his civilian clothes; he too had changed into his alter ego although no one saw how they changed.Chris snapped his fingers and sat back. He didn’t need to say anything else. Two men, wearing similar outfit to the man next to
“Big treasure, what do you think Daddy is preoccupied with?” Emm knitted her pretty brows as she tilted her head at her brother.Big treasure frowned slightly before raising his hand to smooth the crease between his little sister’s brows. “Don’t worry too much. Daddy must be preoccupied with Mommy.”“Don’t try to trick me.” Emm pushed Chris Jnr’s hand away with a childish snort. “I’m not stupid.”“Why do you have to be smart?” Chris Jnr muttered in frustration before lifting his head with a perfect poker smile. “What are you saying, little treasure? What could Daddy…”“Okay…” Little treasure stood up, pushing her chair back in annoyance. “If you want to play dumb, then go ahead.”She was about to stomp out of the room when Chris Jnr caught her.“Don’t run away. Brother apologizes.”“So, are you going to tell me?”“Would you believe me if I told you I don’t know?”Emm folded her arms with a fierce expression. “What do you think?”“I really don’t know.” Chris Jnr shook his head. “I was
The ceremony was meant to be short and simple. The ceremony itself was… short and simple. The ruckus that followed was anything but...Music filled the cathedral as everyone arrived, welcoming and blissful. The ceremony began with two small figures, the flower girl and boy, walking with careful importance down the aisle. And then, as though summoned by mischief itself, their little tail followed…then came another… and another… until the aisle bloomed into a parade of Burke and Walter children, their laughter spilling softly into the hall like sunlight.Soft laughter rippled through the hall, warmth settling into every corner. And then, the bride appeared.Like a hush falling over a restless sea, chaos stilled into quiet excitement. Conversations faded, breaths softened, and all eyes turned as one to admire the bride.Night Wing, a man who had walked battlefields with ease, with the quiet confidence of a man certain of his path, froze…His heart stumbled… then raced… then seemed to sto
Four weeks passed in a blink, and soon it was the morning of Abbey’s big day. She had no idea how time had slipped through her fingers. It seemed like she was in a dream, and she never wanted to wake up.She had her life carefully mapped out. Though she appeared bright and cheerful, Abbey understood the darkness of the world around her. The only light in her life had been a girl around the same age as her, the one who walked into a restroom where she was being bullied when she was around eight and led her out of that quagmire. The young girl had unwittingly entered the restroom where she was being bullied. But she didn’t walk away like the others, she thrashed every single one of them, like a rowdy overlord before holding her hands that were covered in filth without hesitation and leading her away. One might think that was the start of a beautiful friendship but to Abbey, it wasn’t.She was grateful to the Burke princess for standing up for her, for disregarding the filth on her hand
Night Wing and Abbey had planned for a small wedding. Night Wing had no living relatives, at least none that he knew of, and Abbey had cut ties with her family long time ago, even before she was an adult, after they abandoned her at an orphanage following her parents’ passing.Their plans had been perfect on paper- a small, simple affair. But reality had other ideas. The only thing that remained unchanged was the cathedral wedding. It had been Abbey’s dream, ever since she was a little girl. The cathedral chosen for the ceremony was the one the Walters had attended ever since Adam moved his family here. Having been Chris’s shadow since the day they met, it was the only church Night Wing knew, was part of, and so the choice had been easy.Abbey’s original plan was to get ready from Emile’s place, Rose Villa. However, the arrival of the Burkes once again changed things.“My dear girl, the bride has to be escorted to the church from her home, not the groom’s place,” Agnes insisted.Abbey
Life slipped back into its familiar rhythm.Chris Jnr and Emm, along with their ever-present little tail, kept the entire household on its toes... decorating, re-decorating, and transforming their room into what they insisted was a “properly baby-friendly space.” Each new idea somehow demanded undoing the last, and the constant cycle drove everyone to the brink of madness.Until finally… Chris packed the trio off to Devil Island for training.“Finally… some peace. And my guilty pleasures.” Emile sighed contentedly, sinking into the couch as she unwrapped a bar of chocolate.Abbey arched a brow, glancing up from her tablet. She and Night Wing were knee-deep in wedding planning. Pulling everything together within a month was no easy feat… but at least neither of them had relatives hovering over their shoulders, offering opinions they didn’t ask for.A small mercy.“Those two have been driving me crazy,” Emile continued between bites, her tone light, her eyes bright. “Not allowed to eat
“Mommy, you better take care of your man from here on…there's only so much a little girl can do…” Emm’s bell-like voice rang out as she advised seriously forgetting that her mouthpiece was still on “It was hard work, but we got him here for you.”Everyone burst out laughing as they heard the childis
Chris and Emile didn’t have any difficulty sneaking out from under the watchful eyes of the press nor the guests…they had a genius son who had mapped everything to the dot for making their most important day picture perfect. It was so magical that both, Chris and Emile were afraid that it was a drea
Almost all the guests in the hotel woke up in the wee hours of the morning as they had all arrived to participate in the youngest Walter’s wedding. All of them without exception were filled with excitement regardless of the reason for their excitement. No one knew the exact location of the venue, as
Outside the room, Chris Jnr finally managed to coax little treasure and sighed in relief. There was nothing he could do about it, his little ears and heart hurt from listening to little treasure’s wails. He would compensate his little brother in other ways. “How is your mommy?” Chris asked once lit
