LOGINNick’s POV
After sending the email, Nick remained seated in front of his laptop. For some reason, he had hidden his email address. He knew Nita might not bother to read it if she knew it was from him, but hiding his identity might pique her interest a bit.
He waited for some sort of reply or question, but after a while, there was none.
He sighed, closing the laptop.
Five years ago, he had retained the mansion, but he never slept in it. There, it was easier for him to long for Nita, but outside, he could focus on other things. He picked up his suit and moved out of the mansion.
On his way, he could feel the eyes of the maids on him, but no one dared ask where the woman he claimed would be coming back soon was. Not even Mrs. Patel.
He drove his car back to the office. The building was dead silent as every other worker had gone home. The sound of his footsteps could be heard loudly in the office. When he got to his office, he pulled on his suit and brewed himself a cup of coffee.
Coffee was the only sane way to keep himself awake. Not that he was feeling sleepy in the first place.
Sleeping would be harder tonight. As he lifted the glass of coffee to his lips, he remembered the look on Nita’s face when she had seen it. She had recognized him at once, and her lips had parted in surprise.
Even though she was trying to put on a tough front, he could tell that she might also miss him.
Was there a possibility that she remembered him so fast because she still cared for him? Or the hatred she had for him was that deep?
He finished his cup of coffee and opened his work laptop.
He was trying to build a new franchise. It would be his gift to his son for not being part of his life for the past five years. His hand moved effortlessly on the keyboard, typing and closing sites as he researched for the materials he would need and the best way to go about this new business.
He was two hours deep into his business when his phone started ringing. Nick groaned, but he picked up the phone. He hadn’t bothered checking the caller.
“Hello, Nick darling.” His mother’s voice filled his ear.
Nick let out a fresh groan. If he knew it was his mother calling, he wouldn’t have bothered picking up the call.
“Are you sleeping, darling?”
For a moment, he was tempted to lie, but he said. “No, mother. I’m busy at work.”
His mother sighed. “You work too hard, darling. The Grimm is already a top name in the state, and not everyone can compete with us. I don’t know why you have to work yourself to the bone when you’re supposed to be building a family.”
Nick stood up, needing a fresh cup of coffee. His mother was on her favorite topic again. It was always about getting a new family. Continuing the Grimm legacy. And all that.
“I already told you, mother. I have a family of mine.”
“Come on, Nick.” She cut him off. “It has been five years since that ungrateful brat ran away, don’t tell me you’re still hanging over her.”
He already told her countless times that Nita didn’t run away, but his mother wouldn’t have it any other way. He drank the coffee at a go. “Mother, I really have no time for this. The company is in a serious dilemma right now, and I need to work.”
His mother scoffed. “The company will be fine, darling. That’s why we are paying the staff. What’s most important is that you continue the family name. And that’s why I already set up a blind date for you.”
“No, mother.”
She grumbled. “Will you listen to me, Nick. You’re going to like this lady. She’s my friend’s daughter. She had been trained on how to be a wife to a big conglomerate like ours. She will be the perfect wife for you. I promise, son.”
Nick shook his head. “No way, mother. I’m still married to Nita. There’s no way I will be going on a blind date with some other lady.”
He knew what was going to come next. They had done this several times. Before she could start with her threats. He hung up the call.
He was just seated on his chair when his phone started to ring again. Nick groaned. If she wasn’t his biological mother and he knew she meant well for him, he would have blocked his number at this point.
He placed the call on silent as he resumed his work.
This was the thing that kept him going.
Five years ago, hehad gave up on life. He thought he would die, but the doctor had termed what happened to him as a miracle.
He was better than they expected after treatment, and had more chances to live his life.
Life, he wasn’t willing to live alone without Nita and their son.
After taking a break around one a.m., he picked up his phone. There were ten missed calls from his mother. He ignored it and found Jeff’s number.
Jeff had claimed that the spy at the airport had seen his wife and his mother.
It was the second ringing that Jeff picked up
“Good morning, sir.” his voice hoarsened as if he had just woken up from bed.
Nick ticked. “I need you to get a picture of my son and send it to me.”
There was a silence at the end of the line, before “Yes, sir.”
Great. “I’ll be expecting it first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, sir.”
He hung up.
Now, that he was aware that Nita had no plans of ever giving him his son. He needed to find ways to make the little boy like him. He was going to win his son back, and in the process, he planned on winning Nita back, too.
Nick's POV."Of course, I love you, Nita."He hung up the call and stared at the phone. A strange feeling washed all over him. This was the first time in five years she had given him an audience on the phone, and she had actually responded to him well. He smiled at the phone again, before dropping the phone. Then he remembered the message he had gotten earlier from the hacker. Now that Nita had decided to forgive him, the only thing holding him back from connecting with his family was this hacker's threat. As if Nick was going to let anyone threat hold him down. There was no way he could sleep peacefully after finding out about the threat. "Jeff, I need you to find all necessary information about this orphanage in the next ten minutes, and I don't care the method you used. " He hung up before Jeff could say hello, sir or okay, sir. While waiting for Jeff, he sat down and made his research about the orphanage. Why did Nita thought there was something about the orphanage?Apar
Nita's POV She felt different. It was as if a sudden burden had been lifted off her and she zeroed her eyes at Nick's car driving off. He had promised to send her car with a driver and she believed him Immediately she opened the door, an excited Nate jumped at her. Anyone could have thought he had been lurking at the door from the moment she left up to the moment she returned. "How was work?" He lifted his gaze to look up at her while blinking at her. Nita crouched to his level with a smile. "It was awesome.""Does this mean mummy will have more time for me?" She asked, hopefully. Nita laughed. She could tell that was the most important thing to him, and even though she didn't want to promise him falsely. She nodded. "Soon, dear. Mummy will have all the time in the world for just you."He jumped, wrapping his arms around her. Then suddenly, he asked. "Did you see daddy Nick?"Nita felt her cheeks turn red. The question was from a child, but it still felt embarrassing and she f
Nick's POV "I'm sorry. I made the biggest mistake of my life five years ago. And I never replaced you, wifey. You're irreplaceable."Nita frowned. "You didn't act like it. You were glad I was good." She smiled at the memory of it. Nick smiled, too. "I had to. I thought I was dying. According to the doctor, I had just three months to live. I thought it was better to let you go than trap you in a marriage were you will become a widow soon."She had pulled away from him. A look of shock on her face. "You were sick?"Nick nodded. "I was. According to the doctor it was terminal."Suddenly Nita pulled his face. "I had no idea. Honestly, I thought you hated me."Nick shook his head. "I could never hate you. It was that period I discovered I was in love with you. I couldn't let you stay with a sick man."Again, she fell on his chest, weeping.Nick smiled. He missed holding her this close to him. And though he didn't want to say this much, he could no longer keep a secret between them."And
Nita's POV Her heart raced at the possibility that the hacker knew her relationship with Nick. If this was a person who knew her personally, surely, the threat was more than the fact that she was helping Nicro Industries. And more of something personal. But she couldn't point a finger at what could be personal. All her life, she had lived as an orphan. Not involving herself with others and facing her business. Then she had gotten married to Nick and leader and exclusive life. No one knew she was married. After the marriage, she had moved to Adonis and hide there with her child. So, how could anyone had found out about her and Nick. She copied the address, trying to figure out who owns the building the IP address had stopped at. It might just be the answer to the question she had been asking herself. She typed it in. The server loaded for a few minutes and when it stopped. The building was an orphanage. Nita gasped, leaning back on her chair. An orphan. There was no way an or
Jeff bowed his head low, making the secretary eyes widened in surprised. "I was asked to pick you up."Nita scowled at him. She could still remember what he had promised her when he brought the invitation to her at the hotel. Unaware of what was running in her mind, Jeff continued to speak. "It's a pleasure to have you here, ma'am. The boss would be so happy."Nita sneered. "Wasn't because of your boss you received me that day?"Jeff blinked in confusion. "Which day?""Do I have to repeat it to you?" She asked her scowl getting bigger. Before he could come up with a response, they were in the presence of Nick. His sleeve were rolled up as he stood in front of his laptop. A cup of coffee was seated beside his laptop, but the moment his gaze stopped at Nita. A smile replaced the frown on his face. Nita stared at him, speechless. She had no idea how to begin a conversation now that she was in his presence. For someone facing stress, he still looked flawlessly handsome. Nita gave he
Nita's POV In a matter of no time, Nita was dressed up and ready to go to Grimm's company. She shudder at the thought of stepping her foot there again, but what had to be done had to be done. The last time she was at the company was five years ago. And then, Nick had rejected her while she was pregnant with their baby, but she didn't want to think about it. It would be dragging herself back when she had finally decided she wanted to move forward. "Are you going to let him know you're Cyborg?" Mia cut through her train of though. She shook her head. "No. I'm keeping the identity a secret for now."But Mia didn't look convinced. "Then how do you plan on making him believe you're here to help him. The Nita he knew knows basically nothing about programming, not to talk of helping him as a hacker."Nita nodded. "I know, but this time I am going as the managing director of Nicro Industries. I've everything figures out."Mia chuckled. "I just hope so, Nita. But, it will honestly be diffi
Nita’s POV. There was no place to feel comfortable like home, and the state definitely wasn't her home. It hadn't been for five years. Nita rolled on the bed, occasionally trying to see if Nate was also having the same difficulty as her, but the young boy was sound asleep, occasionally snoring li
Nick's POV Sleeping was a dilemma. All Nick could think of was the look on Nita’s face. The last time he had seen her was five years ago, when he had shattered her heart while she was pregnant. Back then, he had thought death would be an escape, but even death refused him. He sat up, working again
Nita’s P.O.V “Home has never been too far, darling. The house awaits its owner.”Her hand hovered over the keyboard as a slow smirk took over her lips. If it were the former Nita, she might have been scared. But instead, she clicked away on her screen, locating the sender’s address. It didn’t take
Nick's POVLocating Nita was an easy task for Jeff, and because he had missed her so much, he couldn't sit still. He closed his laptop, put on his suit jacket, and lifted his car key from the table. As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, people stared at him. This was the first time a lot of
