Nick's POV

Locating Nita was an easy task for Jeff,  and because he had missed her so much, he couldn't sit still. He closed his laptop, put on his suit jacket, and lifted his car key from the table.

As soon as he stepped out of the elevator,  people stared at him. This was the first time a lot of staff were seeing the C E O. During the last five years until this moment, he had never left the office this early. There were rumors that sometimes he slept at the office.

His long strides carried him faster before anyone could interrupt, and soon he was seated in his black car.

His driver, accustomed to him closing late, was nowhere to be found. Nick checked his watch and sat himself in the driver's seat. He remained calm as his leg pressed on the accelerator,  overtaking a series of cars until his car stopped directly in front of Nicro Industries.

He bit his lips.

What could Nita be doing at Nicro Industries as soon as she arrived in the state? Was she looking to secure a job?

He placed his hand on the car door to get out, and that was when he saw her. His hand froze on the door. She was different from how she used to look. Her curves were more prominent, and her face looked younger than it did five years ago. She wore a smart dress, unlike the casual wear he was used to seeing her wear.

Was he right about a thing? She came here to secure a job.

If a job was what she needed, he could easily handle it for her?

Before he could get out of the car, she opened the car door and got in, driving off at an astonishing speed.

Nick drove after her. There was no way he was losing her again after five years. His fist tightened on the steering and his legs pressed harder on the accelerator.  He couldn't wait to see.

For the first time in five years, his heart thumped for a different reason.

Her car suddenly slowed down as if she knew someone was trailing her. It seemed it wasn't just her body that got better, but also her brain. Then suddenly, she sped up.

A smirk appeared on Nick's lip. That was my girl.

He also pressed harder on the accelerator, and soon his car overtook hers. He remained seated in his car as he watched her get out, anger shimmering through her body.

He opened the door and also got out.

She stood in her step, her eyes going wide.

Guess she wasn’t expecting to see me so soon. Looking at her closer now enhanced her beauty. Her skin remained flawless, just like previously.

God! He missed her so much.

“Nita, “ his voice hoarse.  A sudden chill ran through his body. He wished he could move closer to her.

“Nick.” The surprise was evident in her voice, then she hardened her voice as if she didn't care about me.

She talked about the divorce he had initiated five years ago and how she was willing to sign it. Then she did what he wouldn't expect: she denied him of his son.

His hand curled into a fist.

There was no way he was letting either her or their son slip through his fingers again.

She drove off, and he watched her go.

He got back into his car. That was enough hunting for the day. He didn't want her to think I was stalking her.

He sat in the car with one hand on the steering wheel and the other gripping his phone to call Jeff.

“Hello, boss,“ he picked up the first ringing.

“I need to find out what Nita is doing at the state. And why Nicro industries?”

Instead of returning to the office as he usually did then, he rode back to the mansion.

Mrs Patel stood in front of the building, lining up the rest of the maids.

When her gaze met Nate, she looked behind her to see if the Madam had returned. When Nick called her and informed her of the return of Madam. She sprang into action, issuing orders to the maids.  The mansion had to look spotless.

Nick stormed past them without sparing them a glance.  His leg carried him up the stairs at an alarming speed. Then he stopped right in front of her room. It was just the way she had left it.

Her pictures, her clothes, even the last book she had read were exactly where she had left them before exiting his life five years ago. He wanted her to see everything where it was and know that he cared about her.

He traced his hand slowly on the bed and over the belongings. Now that she was back, he would surely bring her home. Just then, his phone rang.

Jeff.

“I'm sorry, sir. But every piece of information on Mrs. Grimm is confidential.”

Nick furrowed his brow.

How did Nita do that? There had to be someone behind her.

“So, you didn’t find anything at all.”

For a moment, Jeff was silent as if he were ashamed of himself. This was the first time he couldn't get the information Nick needed.

“Sir, I was able to get her phone number and contact information.”

That was enough. “Send it.”

His phone beeped, notifying the arrival of the message. He glanced at it while he held her picture in his hand. It was her only picture he had.

It was after she left that he realized they didn’t have a picture together. And how few her belongings were.

When she came back, he was ready to spoil her rotten. He would give her everything money could afford to buy.

Then he opened his email and sent her a message.

“Home has never been too far, darling. The house awaits its owner.”

If there was one thing he knew, it was the fact that Nita would come back to this house with his son. He wasn't the type of man to give up on what he wanted.
