MasukNita’s P.O.V
“Home has never been too far, darling. The house awaits its owner.”
Her hand hovered over the keyboard as a slow smirk took over her lips. If it were the former Nita, she might have been scared. But instead, she clicked away on her screen, locating the sender’s address.
It didn’t take long before she got it. Tasks like that were for beginners, which she wasn’t. The I.P address blinked on her system, and soon she was able to track the name of the owner.
Her hand balled into a fist as her gaze slid over to the little boy sleeping on the bed.
How did he find out? And now he was sending her a message. It seemed she was more open to the public than she thought.
She deleted the message, making sure it was also cleared out of her trash bin. She wasn’t leaving any opportunity to go retrieve it, and started nursing false hope.
That was the last thing she needed
Then she proceeded to block his address from sending her any more messages. Her heart would only linger on things she saw, not things she didn’t see.
After making sure that it had been well taken care of, she closed her laptop, losing interest in finding out about Nicro Industries' theft. Tomorrow was another day.
She pulled the duvet over Nate and walked into the shower to get a cold bath.
The water ran down her spine as she let her hand move slowly over her body. Ever since she left Nick five years ago, she hadn’t been with any man. Even when her friends and colleagues had encouraged her, she had insisted that she didn’t need a man in her life. But sometimes she felt like having someone else to talk to apart from Nate.
Yes, Nate was her world.
But there was nothing wrong with having another adult point of view in a life discussion. It could get lonely making all the decisions.
She got out of the shower and wrapped the towel over her head. Nate was still fast asleep on this side of the bed. Her feet carried her to the bed, where she picked up her phone and called Mia.
It might be late, but Mia had always been a night owl. She preferred working at night to working during the day. She claimed she was more productive during the night.
The phone beeped slowly, before she heard a voice at the other end of the line. “Hello…” Mia dragged her voice.
Nita rolled her eyes at the exaggeration. “Really, Mia.”
“What now?” Mia’s voice sounded clear for someone who was sleeping a second ago.
Nita popped up on the bed, her hand hovering over the sleeping form of Nate. “Did you really have to tell Nate that his father was in the state?”
A loud sigh sounded at the other end of the phone. “Come on, Nita. The boy keeps asking about his father. I only gave him a little hope. I didn’t tell him who his father was.”
“You might as well have told him.” Came her sharp response. She knew her stand when it came to things that Nate were privilege to know, yet she still went ahead to tell him about his father’s location.
“I’m sorry, Nita. But this boy needs a father figure in his life. If you don’t plan on getting back with his father, maybe you can link up with new guys.”
Nita sighed. “How many times do I have to tell you, Mia, I’m not interested in guys?”
“Come on, Nita! Whatever happened, it has been five years. You need to move on with your life. There are a lot of men out there, and not everyone is like your ex-husband.”
She knew that. Not everyone was like Nick, but she couldn’t just find herself falling for another guy.
When her silence persisted, Mia continued. “If you don’t like the guys in Adonis, thankfully, you’re back at the state. The state is large, and there are millions of guys out there, just pick one and make him yours.”
For a moment, laughter escaped Nita. Men weren’t goods that she could just pick from. But Mia had never been the type to back off from nagging her to do things. “Fine. I’ll give it a thought.”
“Really!” she sounded surprised. “Did something happen over there?”
Nita rubbed her hair in her hand. “Why? You wanted me to act on something, and I finally promised to, so why are you asking if something happened?”
Flashes of Nick in front of her car came, but she shook her head. Nick was the last guy she should be thinking of.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that this is the first time you’re accepting of giving it a thought. So, I thought something must have happened.”
Her hair felt sticky in her hand. “Well, it’s been five years. I should finally give it a thought.”
“Thank God, you’re finally seeing reasons with me.” She said. Then she asked. “How’s it going with Nicro Industries?”
Regardless of the close relationship she had with Mia, she was still her boss. And whenever it came to the issue of work, they didn’t let personal feelings into it.
“I think I will have to work on it more than I expected.”
“Great.” She replied. “If you had just resolved it as soon as you came, people would suspect you’re a cyborg. This is the best way to hide your identity.”
Her eyes moved to Nate again. “Yeah, I think it’s best. I just don’t want to resolve the leakage. I want the thief caught, so there wouldn’t be a repetition when I am gone.”
“That’s better, Nita.”
“Goodnight, Mia.”
Nita removed the phone from her ears, ready to press the red button when she heard Mia’s voice again. “Wait, Nita.” She placed the phone back in her ears. “Jeremy is also coming to the state.”
A frown etched on Nita’s face. Jeremy was a colleague at work who occasionally worked as her personal assistant. And right now, she didn’t think she needed a personal assistant for the job she was handling.
“Why?’
Mia coughed. “I have no idea, but I gave him information on where you’re staying. I guess he’s coming to help.”
Just the help she needed. But then she nodded. “Fine. Just the kind of problem I needed.”
Mia knew what she was doing. She had always secretly rooted for her and Jeremy.
Nick's POV."Of course, I love you, Nita."He hung up the call and stared at the phone. A strange feeling washed all over him. This was the first time in five years she had given him an audience on the phone, and she had actually responded to him well. He smiled at the phone again, before dropping the phone. Then he remembered the message he had gotten earlier from the hacker. Now that Nita had decided to forgive him, the only thing holding him back from connecting with his family was this hacker's threat. As if Nick was going to let anyone threat hold him down. There was no way he could sleep peacefully after finding out about the threat. "Jeff, I need you to find all necessary information about this orphanage in the next ten minutes, and I don't care the method you used. " He hung up before Jeff could say hello, sir or okay, sir. While waiting for Jeff, he sat down and made his research about the orphanage. Why did Nita thought there was something about the orphanage?Apar
Nita's POV She felt different. It was as if a sudden burden had been lifted off her and she zeroed her eyes at Nick's car driving off. He had promised to send her car with a driver and she believed him Immediately she opened the door, an excited Nate jumped at her. Anyone could have thought he had been lurking at the door from the moment she left up to the moment she returned. "How was work?" He lifted his gaze to look up at her while blinking at her. Nita crouched to his level with a smile. "It was awesome.""Does this mean mummy will have more time for me?" She asked, hopefully. Nita laughed. She could tell that was the most important thing to him, and even though she didn't want to promise him falsely. She nodded. "Soon, dear. Mummy will have all the time in the world for just you."He jumped, wrapping his arms around her. Then suddenly, he asked. "Did you see daddy Nick?"Nita felt her cheeks turn red. The question was from a child, but it still felt embarrassing and she f
Nick's POV "I'm sorry. I made the biggest mistake of my life five years ago. And I never replaced you, wifey. You're irreplaceable."Nita frowned. "You didn't act like it. You were glad I was good." She smiled at the memory of it. Nick smiled, too. "I had to. I thought I was dying. According to the doctor, I had just three months to live. I thought it was better to let you go than trap you in a marriage were you will become a widow soon."She had pulled away from him. A look of shock on her face. "You were sick?"Nick nodded. "I was. According to the doctor it was terminal."Suddenly Nita pulled his face. "I had no idea. Honestly, I thought you hated me."Nick shook his head. "I could never hate you. It was that period I discovered I was in love with you. I couldn't let you stay with a sick man."Again, she fell on his chest, weeping.Nick smiled. He missed holding her this close to him. And though he didn't want to say this much, he could no longer keep a secret between them."And
Nita's POV Her heart raced at the possibility that the hacker knew her relationship with Nick. If this was a person who knew her personally, surely, the threat was more than the fact that she was helping Nicro Industries. And more of something personal. But she couldn't point a finger at what could be personal. All her life, she had lived as an orphan. Not involving herself with others and facing her business. Then she had gotten married to Nick and leader and exclusive life. No one knew she was married. After the marriage, she had moved to Adonis and hide there with her child. So, how could anyone had found out about her and Nick. She copied the address, trying to figure out who owns the building the IP address had stopped at. It might just be the answer to the question she had been asking herself. She typed it in. The server loaded for a few minutes and when it stopped. The building was an orphanage. Nita gasped, leaning back on her chair. An orphan. There was no way an or
Jeff bowed his head low, making the secretary eyes widened in surprised. "I was asked to pick you up."Nita scowled at him. She could still remember what he had promised her when he brought the invitation to her at the hotel. Unaware of what was running in her mind, Jeff continued to speak. "It's a pleasure to have you here, ma'am. The boss would be so happy."Nita sneered. "Wasn't because of your boss you received me that day?"Jeff blinked in confusion. "Which day?""Do I have to repeat it to you?" She asked her scowl getting bigger. Before he could come up with a response, they were in the presence of Nick. His sleeve were rolled up as he stood in front of his laptop. A cup of coffee was seated beside his laptop, but the moment his gaze stopped at Nita. A smile replaced the frown on his face. Nita stared at him, speechless. She had no idea how to begin a conversation now that she was in his presence. For someone facing stress, he still looked flawlessly handsome. Nita gave he
Nita's POV In a matter of no time, Nita was dressed up and ready to go to Grimm's company. She shudder at the thought of stepping her foot there again, but what had to be done had to be done. The last time she was at the company was five years ago. And then, Nick had rejected her while she was pregnant with their baby, but she didn't want to think about it. It would be dragging herself back when she had finally decided she wanted to move forward. "Are you going to let him know you're Cyborg?" Mia cut through her train of though. She shook her head. "No. I'm keeping the identity a secret for now."But Mia didn't look convinced. "Then how do you plan on making him believe you're here to help him. The Nita he knew knows basically nothing about programming, not to talk of helping him as a hacker."Nita nodded. "I know, but this time I am going as the managing director of Nicro Industries. I've everything figures out."Mia chuckled. "I just hope so, Nita. But, it will honestly be diffi
Nita’s POV. His son. Nita’s heart pressed against her ribs. If she remembered clearly, she hadn't told him about her pregnancy. And she was sure to have kept her son's identity secret. She blinked. “I've no idea what you're talking about. The only thing I owe you is my signature on the divorce pap
Nita’s P.O.V. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered, fingers pressing against her lap. “I like you.” Nita’s gaze dropped to his hand. A bitter laugh almost slipped from her throat. Five years ago, she had sworn off men. Sworn off heartache. Sworn off every distraction that could take her attention away
Fortunately, Nate fell asleep a few minutes after they entered the hotel room. The long journey had drained him, leaving him sprawled across the bed with his mouth slightly open. Nita was relieved — not just because he needed the rest, but because his endless questions about a “daddy” she wished he’
Five Years Later The state had changed. It was no longer the place Nita once knew—it was more advanced, more beautiful, almost unrecognizable. The glittering glass walls of the airport reflected the light in ways that reminded her of opportunities she thought she had left behind. Her fingers tigh
