Contract marriage

  Chapter 4

I let down the tears I've been holding back In me freely without it having any obstacle nor obstruction. I bend low beside my little brother while shaking him vigorously to get up.

"Samuel, please don't do this to me, please, kindly get up," I screamed while hot tears flowed down my cheeks, mucus also coming out from my nostril.

I cared less about those watching me tangling my hair with my fingers, I yelp out in pains holding my chest with my right hand, I choked on my tears which result to a sharp pains in my chest.

"Someone should fucking call the ambulance and don't just stand there like a dummy fools!" I yelled to the passerby behaving like a mad woman in the street while throwing pebbles stones at them.

I stared down at the unconscious body beside, I snuggled closer to it placing his head on my chest while crying bitterly.

Few minutes later the ambulance siren could heard from a far distance while people rushed away from the road in order for it's to pass, it's got to my side, a stretcher was immediately pulled out by two nurses who dressed in green, they immediately pulled me away from my brother and he was placed on the stretcher before me, it's was then wheeled inside the ambulance.

I hurriedly followed them inside, sitting very close to his body. I hold his tiny little hand while crying silently. Praying to God inwardly to keep my brother safe just this once.

The ambulance tyres screeched loudly while it's drive away from the dusty part of LA in speed, navigating towards the right hand side. It moved speedily while honking towards the coming vehicles to clear the road as it's is an emergency case. We drive into the hospital roughly alerting other nurses on duty of an emergency case, they all rushed out of the hospital helping those inside the ambulance to wheel away the strecher to the IUC room.

I followed them all the way to the IUC room holding his hand but got stop by one of the nurses.

"You can't go in with us ma'am, kindly wait at the reception," she said while she removed my hand from his hand before wheeling him inside.

I stared through the glass door as the inserted some pipes into his nose and mouths and some injections are been given to him immediately, I watched as the nurses parabulated passing some syringes and needle to a young man probably in his early forties or mid forties or thereabouts who has a stethoscope hanged around his neck while he has his eyes focus on samuel checking his vitals time to time.

After what seems like forever the man whom I assumed to be the doctor gave out an instruction, though, I didn't hear what he was saying but judging from the way he was gesticulating with his hands and stern face; I know he was passing out an Instruction to them.

The man whom I later got to know is name as doctor Finn came out of the IUC room looking at me from head to toe contemplating wether to tell me what's going on or not finally speaks out.

"Sorry, who are you to the patient in the ward?" he asked adjusting his spectacle properly.

"I'm his elder sister," I replied with a cracked voice while trying my dress properly.

"Have you informed your parents or guardian of the present situation?" he asked writing some things on the folder in his hand.

"No sir," I said while staring down at my worn out slippers who look so dusty and unkept.

"And why? if I may ask," he asked staring at him curiously as if he's trying to find an answer to his questions in my body.

"Uhmmmn, we don't really have one sir; I'm the only one he has and his the only one I equally have, we both have lost our parents long time ago," I managed to explain to the man without tearing up in his presence because, I don't want to look like a walking in his presence.

His gaze softened upon hearing what I had just said while his face is full of pities.

"So you mean you are an orphan?" he asked to be sure of what I said while I only nodded my head in affirmation to the question he had asked me.

"Take this to the reception room give it to any staff on duty and present them with any Information they need after come see me in my office," he said while stretching the folder he was previously writing something on to me.

I walked down the hallway with a heavy heart heading towards the reception room dragging my feets lazily on the floor. My stomach rumbled reminding me I haven't taken anything since morning. I got to the reception room, met a lot of people in there, some are seating while some pacing up and down. I walked to a lady I saw sitting on the counter without bothering to greet anyone.

"The doctor asked me to give you this," I said stretching the folder in my hand to her.

She looked up from the files, she's attending eyeing as if I've done anything wrong, she snatched the folder in my hand with a loud hiss.

I smirk watching her waiting patiently for her to ask whatever she needs to know, if it's wasn't for what happened will she be here suffering like this huh? she thought inwardly almost tearing up.

"What's the name of the person you brought in here?" she asked chewing the gum in her mouth loudly.

"Samuel Johnson," I said resting my chin on my hands which rested on the table.

"How old is he and what are symptoms he has been showing before he was rushed down here?" she asked filling some informations on the folder I gave to her.

"His nine years of age and the only symptoms I could remember him showing was him complaining of constant headache and I do get some pain killers for him that's all."

"Okay take this, go straight turn left the first door by your right hand side, knock on it and give the person this." she said handing me the folder back.

"Okay," was all I could mutter
