Charlotte's POV

"Come here." Layson Romanov's voice was low and firm, leaving no room for refusal.

In the yacht's luxury suite, the air felt stiflingly hot. Layson's loosened collar looked messy. He had left a few buttons of his shirt undone, revealing his firm chest. His usually deep and calm green eyes now burned with scorching desire.

In my previous life, he had tempted me in this same way.

Right now, I simply stood by and watched this man who was normally so noble and untouchable.

I once believed I could become his greatest love. I paid no heed to the fact that he was my father's friend or that he was 20 years older than me, or even the mockery from my family. I flung myself into becoming his so-called "antidote".

I loved him with all my heart, yet all I got in return was a tragic end—I died along with my unborn baby. Even love became a luxury I could no longer afford.

Right before I died, I found out that Layson had secretly been in love with his personal secretary, Grace Parker.

They had long been fond of each other. I was only an intruder who barged into their romance and took Grace's rightful place, becoming a burden to him.

Perhaps the Moon Goddess pitied me, for she granted me a second chance at life.

In this lifetime, there was only one thing I wanted to do, and that was to let them be together.

Without a moment of hesitation, I took out my phone and dialed Grace's number.

Ten minutes later, Grace arrived in a hurry, her gaze filled with wariness.

"Charlotte, what on earth are you playing at? Don't you like His Majesty? Why call me over instead of seizing the opportunity?"

When I heard her say that, I couldn't help but give a bitter laugh.

In my previous life, everyone knew that I clung to Layson. Wherever he went, I would appear at his side.

Back then, I thought he truly loved me. When my father was away at war for five years, Layson would take me to his castle, look after me with care, and grant me anything I desired.

I was naive enough to think that it was only our differences in status and age that separated us. Otherwise, why would a man as reserved as him indulge all my whims?

But reality made it clear that he didn't love me.

So, I merely shook my head. "I don't like him anymore. I'll never like him again. You and he grew up together and have always liked each other. You only lack a chance to be together. Tonight is the perfect moment."

Just then, a muffled sound came from the room, filled with suppressed pain.

"He's about to be overwhelmed by the drug. If you don't go in, he might not make it."

Grace still hesitated.

I simply stepped aside and pushed her into the room. I gave her no chance to back out and shut the door at once.

Not long after, I heard Layson's ragged breathing and Grace's soft moans. Their sounds of passion grew clearer, one after another, like sharp blades slicing into my heart.

So, this was what heartbreak felt like. It felt as though I had been hollowed out. I crumpled to the floor right by the door.

My tears flowed without my control, yet I felt strangely relieved. I had finally broken free from the fate of my previous life.

I ran back to my own room and spent the whole night sleepless.

At dawn, my father, Arthur Winston, called right on time.

"Charlotte, I've already arranged a spot for you in Silvermoon City. That's where all the young elites from every pack gather. Would you like to go?"

Over the past few years, my father had been busy expanding his territory and hadn't been able to take care of me, so he entrusted me to his good friend, Layson, the ruler of the North. I ended up staying under Layson's care for several years.

I used to foolishly believe that his kindness toward me, his protection, and even his occasional stares were some form of special affection. By now, I finally understood that Grace was the true love he had cherished all along.

"Yes, I'm willing to go," I said.

After I spoke, my father seemed momentarily taken aback on the other end of the line, then his tone turned excited.

"My darling, you've finally come round. In Silvermoon City, you can study and explore, and you can even look for a partner. I've already contacted Carlson Bennett from the Blazing Sun pack. He has a strong bloodline and is about your age, and you'll both attend the same academy.

"Charlotte, it's not wrong to want romance. But the right person matters. Give yourself a new chance."

Hearing my father's words made my tears flow again.

In my past life, he had also tried to persuade me, but I wouldn't listen. In the end, I wasted my life away.

I pinched my palm, letting the dull pain of my nails biting into my skin clear my mind.

In this lifetime, I would never let myself remain trapped in Layson's shadow.

"Dad, I'll do whatever you say. I'm going to Silvermoon City. I'll arrange the entry permit later."

Charlotte's POVDue to prolonged suffering and malnutrition, the once glamorous Grace was now thin and frail. At the sight of her, Margaret slapped her hard.Grace stumbled to the ground, letting out a cold laugh.Margaret still felt it wasn't enough. Furious that her son might never wake, she lunged forward and grabbed Grace by the collar, delivering more blows. If the guards hadn't intervened, Grace might not have survived."You wicked creature!" Margaret roared in anger. "Why isn't it you lying there unconscious?"Grace let out a sinister laugh."Me? Wicked?" She lifted her head. Hatred shone in her eyes."And your son isn't wicked? He said again and again that he loved me, but every time Charlotte called, he'd drop everything and run to her! He kept me by his side while refusing to let her go! A man like that deserves to die!"She laughed wildly. "He deserves it! He seduced a teenage girl! Now, he'll never wake up!"A guard pinned Grace to the ground, but her laughter wou

  • Not Daddy's Anymore   Chapter 22

Charlotte's POVThere was a time when I used to dream about the future with Layson.I would imagine if we had a daughter, I'd spoil her into the happiest little princess alive, and she'd be forever safe from harm. If we had a son, I wanted him to be as strong as Layson, inheriting his father's glory.I drew countless portraits of those children and imagined how they would look one day.But when I timidly offered those drawings to Layson, he never looked at them. He tore them up and threw them into the fireplace. He told me in the coldest tone that he could have children with anyone but never with me. He told me to stop daydreaming.Thinking of that, I closed my eyes for a second. I felt no emotion anymore.Once, I had clung to Layson's arm, happily talking about the future, but now, the man I wanted to have children with was someone else. I figured Layson, after all that happened, had no more interest in me. He must have learned I was expecting a daughter.Yet no one could have

  • Not Daddy's Anymore   Chapter 21

Charlotte's POVI didn't hesitate at all. I flatly refused Layson's proposal.Still, Layson wouldn't give up. He grabbed my hand and tried to force the ring onto my finger."Charlotte, be good. Come home with me. Grace has already been punished, so nothing will get in the way of our relationship anymore."I let out a cold laugh. Our problem was never just Grace's fault alone."I love Carlson. I'm his wife."When Layson kept pestering me, Carlson threw a punch at him. They began to fight.Elder members of both packs quickly pulled them apart.Carlson shouted at Layson in anger, "How much do you hate Charlotte that you keep trying to ruin her over and over? Do you even realize how many people are watching our wedding today? What do you expect them to think of her?"You barging in made the whole world see her past. Do you want her to become the werewolf pack's laughingstock?"Blood stained the corner of Layson's mouth. He protested loudly. "No! I love her!"Seeing their alpha i

Charlotte's POVTo avoid more trouble from Layson, Carlson moved up our wedding date. He wanted every noble from each pack to witness our grand ceremony. The event would still be held in Silvermoon City.Today was my wedding day.Carlson spared no expense, making it a grand event.Every big screen in Silvermoon City was broadcasting the ceremony, and countless rose petals rained down from above. Fireworks blazed for ten full minutes outside the castle.Alphas from every werewolf pack were in attendance. An elegant orchestra played gentle melodies. Flowers filled the thousand-year-old castle, and silver candelabras glowed with sacred flames.I wore a pristine white wedding gown and walked down a runner embroidered with golden threads.Carlson waited at the end of the aisle in a black and gold suit. He looked at me quietly. The tribal elder stood at the altar under the moonlight with his hands gently open. His voice was old but commanding as it echoed through the hall."Great Mo

Charlotte's POVThe maid hurried off to deal with the gifts. When Layson heard those gifts had been sent back, he gave no visible reaction. He just kept sending more.Carlson had assumed the gifts would keep being delivered, but instead, Layson brought them in person during an event in Silvermoon City. It was a banquet hosted by the Blazing Sun pack in Silvermoon City, and my first time attending such a function as Carlson's partner.I entered the main hall on his arm, wearing a scarlet gown. A ruby glowed on my chest under the lights.Everyone stared at me, some with envy, others with curiosity.I was already used to such looks. I smiled while greeting the nobles around us.But before long, I felt a burning gaze.I turned in that direction on instinct and saw Layson in a corner of the ballroom. His eyes were locked on me, but I was no longer the girl whose emotions were thrown off by his stare. I simply tilted my head as if I hadn't noticed him.Just then, I heard people whis

  • Not Daddy's Anymore   Chapter 18

Charlotte's POVThe heavy snowfall caused Layson to fall into a high fever and lose consciousness again.Ron couldn't stand watching Layson in his delirium, calling my name over and over. So, he pulled every string he could, hoping to bring me to the hospital to see Layson. But in the end, all that arrived in Layson's hands was the voice recorder that Carlson had someone pass along. The hospital ward was so quiet that it felt like even the sound of snow falling outside could be heard. Layson stared at the recorder for a long time before finally pressing the switch. In the recording, my voice echoed in the empty ward."People are like this. Only when the truth comes out and only when they lose something do they finally regret it. But I don't need that kind of belated remorse. I also don't want to keep getting tangled with Layson over those things. It only brings me trouble. There's no point."It's best for Layson and me never to see each other again, never to have any more contact
