LOGINClara’s POV
I sat quietly in the bed, watching the doctors and nurses work around me.
“Luna, I’ve already informed Alpha of the good news. He should be here soon!” said Dr. Damian, placing the blood pressure cuff on my arm. He looked genuinely happy, but for Caleb, we will see.
Just remembering what he said and did here before made bile rise in my throat. But I couldn’t rush. I had no wolf, no strength, no allies. After all those wars, I had become the rogues’ sworn enemy. If I left without a plan, they would hunt me and my puppies down.
I needed time—to plan, to take my pups, to leave. I needed a pack that would accept us, a small house, and money.
A familiar scent drifted closer. Caleb. My pulse quickened, but I forced panic into my voice. “Damian,” I gasped, fumbling blindly, “Why can’t I see? What’s wrong with my eyes?”
Caleb froze in the doorway, that same worried look plastered on his face. He crossed the room quickly and cupped my face with shaking hands.
“Clara… my Luna. You’re awake.”
Fake tenderness. I wanted to spit in his face—but instead, I trembled and reached for him, pretending to grope for his hand.
“Caleb… you’re here! I was so scared. I couldn’t see you. I missed you so much…”
His hand patted my back. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. I’ll make sure the pack hospital gets you better.”
His voice. The same one I used to crave. Now it just made my chest ache. I buried my face in his chest anyway, inhaling Frost’s scent still clinging to his coat.
My stomach turned.
“Alpha, no need to worry,” Damian said, handing him a folder. “Luna’s blindness is likely temporary. Her visual nerves just need time to recover. But her wolf… she’s still gone.”
“Gone?” Caleb’s tone sharpened. “For how long?”
“We can’t say,” Damian admitted. “It depends on her strength, and her wolf.”
Caleb visibly relaxed. My lips twitched in a bitter smile. Of course. A blind, wolfless Luna posed no threat.
“Caleb,” I whispered, “I don’t want to stay here. Please take me home, to Silvercrest.”
He hesitated. I turned to Damian. “Can I go back now?”
“Of course, Luna,” Damian said kindly. “Home will help you heal. Do you need me to call Beta?”
“No. I’ll take her home,” Caleb interrupted. He lifted me into the wheelchair. His hands were steady, gentle. The same hands that had held Frost hours ago.
Caleb pushed me into the elevator. Through my sunglasses, I caught our reflection in the mirror. He looked the same as five years ago—blue eyes, dark curly hair, strong jaw with stubble—but I… I had no wolf, my body hadn’t fully recovered. The wars and surgery had left scars. Five years of pain, betrayal, and loss had hollowed my cheeks, dried my hair, and thinned my arms until bones showed.
I ran my hand over my face and exhaled deeply.
The black car from this morning was still parked outside the pack hospital—but it was empty. Caleb stopped at the passenger door, opening it.
A lipstick is on the seat.
I clenched my teeth.
Caleb glanced at me, quickly grabbed the lipstick, and stuffed it into his pocket. “Come on, Clara. I’ll put you in the car,” he said.
He buckled my seatbelt, and returned to the driver’s side to start the engine.
“Caleb… in the past five years, has any she-wolf ever sat in the passenger seat?” I asked softly.
“Of course not,” he answered immediately, then paused a few seconds before adding casually, “Who doesn’t know you’re the most powerful Luna ever?”
“Powerful Luna,” I murmured under my breath. “And such a fool.”
“What?” Caleb asked. I shook my head.
He drove in silence. “I missed you, Clara,” he said after a while. “What was it like, in a coma?” he asked, reaching for my hand, but eyes still locked on the road. He was nervous.
“Why are you asking?” I turned to him.
“Nothing… just caring.”
“It was dark. I couldn’t hear or see anything. It’s…terrifying.” My voice trembled.
He patted my hand and finally turned to my side and smiled at me. “It’s okay. It’s over now. We’re going home.”
“Yes… it’s over,” I said, smiling faintly.
He parked in front of the packhouse. My heart raced. Caleb lifted me from the wheelchair and pushed me inside. Through my sunglasses, I scanned the house. It was my home. The main road to the packhouse was lined with yellow tulips.I hated tulips, but they were Caleb’s favorite. So I forced myself to love them, forced myself to plant them everywhere, until Caleb started to believe they were mine too.
Several omega maids bowed to us from a distance. When their eyes landed on me, they widened.
“Luna’s back… and Frost…” one began, but another elbowed her, warning silently.
“Quiet. Poor Luna probably doesn’t know yet… what will she do…”My blood ran cold. They all knew. Everyone in the packhouse knew about Caleb and Frost. How had he spent five years quietly bringing her inside?
“What are you talking about?” I asked, turning toward them.
The two froze like deer in headlights. Silence fell in the hall, broken only by our breathing.
“L-Luna… welcome home,” they stammered.
“Thank you,” I said gently, smiling to calm them, patting Caleb’s hand. “I want to go to our room dear.”
Caleb shot them a warning look and took me up to the third floor where ranked members lived.
I reached for the door handle, and before I could turn it—
Someone opened it from inside.
It was Frost. She was wearing my pajamas, hair loose over her chest. She was still looking sleepy, as if she had just woken up from our marital bed!
Clara’s POVWhen I got back to the packhouse, Caleb still wasn’t home. The maid who’d been assigned to watch me froze for a second when she saw me, then bolted inside. I knew she was going to call Caleb. Maybe even Frost. I let out a dry laugh. Of course she would. Frost had always been more like the Luna than I ever was.Every step hurt. My whole body ached, and the wounds burned like fire. I didn’t even bother with the maid, just felt my way down the hall to the infirmary. Our pack healer on duty tonight quickly helped me sit down, and started checking the cuts on my forehead and arm.“What happened?” she asked, frowning as she pressed disinfectant against my skin. The sting made me suck in a breath. “These look like rogue bites. Did something happen out there?”I didn’t want to talk about it. If I didn’t have to keep up this ridiculous “blind” act, I would’ve patched myself up already. I’d treated worse injuries before — a Luna who trained with warriors knew her way around wounds.
Clara’s POVWhen I woke up the next morning, Caleb was already gone. I washed up and started doing what I’d been doing for days—walking laps around my room, holding on to the bed and the walls, inch by inch. Caleb kept using “you need rest” as the excuse to keep me away from my children. He kept them hidden downstairs. So I had to get better. Fast.Thank goddess the practice was working. I could almost walk on my own now.Caleb didn’t come back for lunch. He mindlinked me around noon, told me he had a meeting with the ranked members and couldn’t eat with me. But I knew exactly where he was. Frost wasn’t even trying to hide her laugh in the background.I pushed her sharp, sugary voice out of my head and opened my computer. I searched for rental listings in other packs, flipping through page after page, imagining a future far away from this place. Then I called the maids and asked them to find gardeners to remove every single yellow tulip in this pack and replace them with roses—my flo
Clara’s POVIt’s been days since I came back, but I’ve barely seen Caleb. He kept saying he’s busy with pack affairs and comes back to our room long after I’ve fallen asleep.Today’s the same too. Now it was almost midnight. Finally, his steps echoed down the hall. He finally remembered that tonight, I wasn’t the Luna lying in a hospital bed—I was the mate waiting for him in this room. The door opened. My face softened on instinct, like I always did in the past few years. “Caleb? A busy day again?” I asked quietly. “Something difficult happened?”“Mm.” His voice was calm. “Nothing for you to worry about. Things you wouldn’t understand.”Right. As if I hadn’t once managed half the pack for him.He walked over and brushed his fingers over my cheek. “Why aren’t you asleep? Did I wake you?”That’s when I saw it.A red lipstick stain on his white collar. Frost’s.So all those nights… he was with her.I looked away.“You need more rest, love. Be good, hm?” He leaned in to kiss me goodnigh
Clara’s POVWhen the door closed behind him, the house finally breathed again. For a second, I could almost breathe too.I’d already decided to leave—betrayal had made the choice for me—but it didn’t make it easier to stand there, watching them touch each other like I didn’t exist. Every touch and every whisper reminded me of the sounds I used to make—the same ones she was making now. How ridiculous. My room even smelled like them.I looked around. Pale wallpaper. Wooden floors. Curtains printed with tiny leaves. Everything here was mine once. Five years ago, it was bright and warm, but now it looked faded and tired, like me.The bed was a mess. Of course it was. My mate’s mistress had been lying right there ten minutes ago.I cannot help but wonder how many times they had done it here, in this bed, on top of the vows we made?My photos on the nightstand were gone too. In their place stood a single frame of Frost and Caleb. They were wearing pack academy uniforms, standing close, and
Clara’s POVHow many times had she stepped into our room? My sacred space with Caleb? And how many times had she touched what was mine?Frost’s smile froze when she saw me. The color drained from her cheeks, though she tried to hold her composure. I could feel her unease. I used every ounce of strength I had to keep my expression still, to pretend I saw nothing, even as rage clawed at my throat. She flicked her gaze toward Caleb. He hesitated behind me, his hand tightening on the wheelchair handles.“What’s wrong, Caleb? Why won’t you take me in?” I asked softly.Through the reflection of the mirror in our living room, I saw Caleb mouth to her, She can’t see.Frost’s shoulders dropped. Relief washed over her face, followed by something crueler. She leaned against the doorframe, one arm crossing under her chest, the other twirling a strand of golden hair. Her lips curled in a smirk that made my blood boil.“Nothing’s wrong,” Caleb said quickly. His voice softened, careful. “Let’s get
