Chapter 1 Ruined Party

Author: Nora Blythe
The private room fell silent in an instant.

Everyone's eyes widened in surprise. Their gazes darted between Anastasia and me, uncertain and awkward.

"Stop guessing, everyone. It's me in the video." An amused voice broke the silence.

Everyone's attention immediately snapped to George Williams' face.

He stepped out from the crowd and, right in front of me, casually wrapped an arm around Anastasia's waist.

He smirked. "Sorry to steal the limelight, Wyatt. Even though you and Anastasia have just gotten married, you can't erase the past I shared with her."

He caressed her wedding ring with his thumb; his words were suggestive.

"After all, I'm the ex she can never forget about."

As soon as the words left him, the crowd, who envied me earlier, choked on his audacity.

Someone finally snapped out of it and tried to smooth things over. "It's not funny, George."

The others echoed them. "Say something, Anastasia. You're married to Wyatt now. George shouldn't be making jokes like this."

Even outsiders could tell it was no longer a harmless joke.

Still, Anastasia did not deny it. She did not clarify anything either.

She simply brushed George's arm away, sat down beside me as if nothing had happened, and watched the video playing on the screen.

As usual, she gave me only half an explanation. "It's all in the past now. You don't need to dwell on it. It's just the way George is. He's only joking to lighten the mood."

I slowly unclenched the fist I had been hiding and nodded calmly.

I took the marriage certificate from my pocket and pushed it toward her.

We only received it earlier today.

"How about getting a divorce? City hall probably hasn't closed yet. We can make it in time if we go now."

She stared at the marriage certificate. Her expression darkened.

Then she shot me an impatient look, as if I were a troublesome child throwing a tantrum. "Are you seriously making a scene now? We only got married this morning, yet you're already threatening me with a divorce? Is it the attention you want?"

I was aware of the crowd's gaze on me, and I was ashamed.

Meanwhile, the video on the screen had looped back to the moment when she proposed, and it echoed throughout the room.

How ironic. During all the time we had dated, she had never once said anything that tender to me.

I was not trying to make a scene. I simply felt bitter that I wasted time on her.

"Anastasia, I brought it up once, and I'll do it again now. We can get a divorce at any time if you still have feelings for George. You don't need to worry about embarrassing yourself if the wedding isn't happening."

The moment I finished speaking, she grabbed the marriage certificate from the table and hurled it in my face.

The edge of the paper cut across my cheek, leaving a sharp sting behind.

The certificate fell to the floor. Spilled red wine slowly stained it.

Her face had turned pale. The veins on her forehead stood out as her anger erupted.

She screamed. "There's nothing between George and me now. You and I are the ones who are married. Isn't it enough? What else do you want from me?"

George immediately seized the chance to comfort her. After getting what he wanted, he shot me a triumphant look.

"Wyatt, tell me to my face if you have a problem with me. Please don't fight because of me."

After witnessing enough drama, several guests could barely hold back their laughter.

The announcement party was ruined, and I had embarrassed myself enough.

Before Anastasia left with George, she turned back and looked at me coldly. "You ruined the party. You better not bring it up in the future and try to blame it on me. Wyatt, I'm starting to think marrying you was a mistake."

Come back with me, and we can have our wedding at any time."Afraid that I would refuse, she spoke each w

Lately, Anastasia had been trying to dig up information from the divorce lawyer, but the lawyer remained tight-lipped about Wyatt's whereabouts. She finally got a breakthrough when George visited her."Annie, if a divorce is what Wyatt wants, why don't you give him that? After all, your wedding has been delayed for too long. Leaving during such a critical moment proves that he's irresponsible. It's better to divorce him."In the past, she never stood up for Wyatt when George belittled him.But today, it struck a nerve. She raised her head and glared at the other man, stating, "He remembers my preference throughout our dating history. If I so much as glanced at something twice, he would buy it for me. I'm not going to divorce a man like him!"Only after the words left her mouth did Anastasia realize something. She remembered everything. Every moment Wyatt had cared for her over the years. After being scolded by her, a flicker of hatred flashed through George's eyes.He pulled ou

Anastasia's mind went blank at the news. She stood frozen in place, no longer hearing anything the other person was saying."Are you still there, Ms. Hawthorne?" After making breakfast for Wyatt like usual, Anastasia left the house and went to George's place."Annie, are the two of you really having a wedding? Did you forget what you promised me? I fulfilled my promise to you… And you?"He hooked a finger around her ring finger. Even if they stopped seeing each other, neither of them would hold a wedding if they married someone else.A wedding was supposed to belong only to them. But Anastasia was barely listening. Indeed, she remembered the promise they had made back then. However, things had changed over time. Perhaps out of spite, Anastasia did not come home for several days.My friends who went to the announcement party messaged me from time to time.According to them, she was with George the whole time. They were worried that it would crush me, but I was already used to it.I didn't reach out to her. Instead, I threw the unfinished wedding invitations into the bin. Finally, she came home one week later. Her expression was complicated when she met my eyes."I was with George. His business is facing some issues, so I offered help. Nothing else happened between us."
