With their ears pressed against the door, Ophelia and Noah could hear nothing but the muffled incoherent sounds coming through the thick wood. At first, they believed that Bernard was caught in an argument with someone, but the less heated it become and they were left with incomplete sentences.
They pulled back, realizing that there was nothing more to hear. But it wasn’t enough to feed their curiosity. They clearly heard a voice yell at the Alpha. Now it was a question of, who dared to do such a thing.
Noah sighed in defeat, his shoulders slumped in disappointment.
“There is no way to know now,” Noah pouted, rubbing a frustrated hand through his ink-black hair and turning to Ophelia. “Did you get to hear anything?”
It wasn’t like what Noah expected, at all…This was the first time he saw Ophelia use her strength. She was the level where she could keep up with Ryan, to a certain extent at least. Her movements were delicate underneath her light weight, her feet was quick to evade any straight on attacks. It was all things that Noah lacked. He remembered the last time he sparred with Ryan, it was an utter embarrassment. To the point where Noah swore never to spar with Ryan again, until he is strong enough to do it. Noah recalled that despite Ryan holding back on him, he still had a hard time catching on to his quick movements. Before long, Noah gave up as he lied in the dirt after a couple of hopeless trails against Ryan. Noah realized why his father chose Ryan as Kn
The 1st of January. It was the day of the long-awaited council meeting and Ophelia barely had a wink of sleep. She was staring at the canopy hovering over her bed waiting for Sarah to wake her up. Until then, she tossed and turned to find a comfortable position but nothing seemed to work. She replayed all the instructions Bernard gave her that night a few days ago. “It will be as if you are never here,” he said, leaning forward on the dining table. “I know it’s hard but you will stay within the second floor’s range.” The council meeting will be held on the ground floor. The Alpha reassured her that there was no need for their guests to roam around the house. The meeting usually lasts a couple of hours before everyone departs back to their home. Ophelia’s room was on the first floor. However, the Alpha found that it was better to safe than sorry and told her to stay the rest of the day on the last floor and away from any paths that the guests could take. All 8 clans were goi
“The red flame of the west,” Ophelia muttered under her breath. How long has it been since she has seen them? There was no way of knowing. Her life’s timeline was now chaos, there was no way of finding out exact dates anymore. Except one… 1st of December, 2022. She had to shake herself pretty hard to prevent her brain from entering that zone, it wasn’t the time to rethink her whole misfortunes. Because it was time to fix herself now. It was the time to make a change. She refocused on the carriage as it entered through the gates, its wood was a burnt amber color corresponding to the bright red color of the crest. Ophelia found realized why she associated the color red with Europa, it was everywhere. However, she had a feeling that she was forgetting one other thing. She leaned forward as much as she could risk, pressing her nose to the glass while hoping of a peak through the carriage. But all she could see were the curtains blocking the inside from the outside world. She st
THE COUNCIL OF GLAHAM It was the first time for Noah to sit in the council room. The room was always empty and piled with dust. It took years for the council room to be used. If each clan held the meeting every 8 years, then Noah was 4 years old when the Moonglade last held it. After that, he was probably too young to travel with his father. And when he did actually travel, he only greeted the guests and waited somewhere else. Noah only recalled the past 3 or so years. But here he was, sitting next to his father in the council room. The chandelier was lit with warm yet bright light. The walls were lined with portraits of Noah’s ancestors, some he failed to recognize. His father, Bernard, sat at the head of the table. Behind him was a huge map showing Glaham and Moonglade was highlighted in blue. Moonglade was near the north surrounded by forest from all directions, which made it the safest among the other clans. Noah’s eyes wandered the map till he spotted the land labeled ‘Crescent
“Can you please stop looking at me like that?!” Ophelia sighed, flopping down on the armchair. Noah was standing in the middle of the couch set, eying the boy lying on the couch. He got just in time to help Ophelia move Merrick to a guest room. A guest room on the second floor. Dragging a body down the stairs and across the hall without bringing attention to Ophelia, proved to be impossible. So the only thing left was to keep the boy on the second floor, till Noah figures out what should be done. He stared at the still body hard. He felt like he was trying to get rid of a dead body. “I could have sworn I heard Ryan tell him the guest rooms on the first floor,” Noah mumbled, crossing his arms over his chest. “Why did he come up here when he was so sick?” “He said that he thought this was the second,” Ophelia replied. “Something about how they count it differently over there.” Noah tilted his head in puzzlement before he gave up trying to understand. He turned back to Merrick
Ophelia hovered over the sleeping boy curiously. His skin was as pale as milk, the bright red of his hair contrasting with it. His hair was as red as the first rays of dawn. He was as tall as Noah maybe a little shorter but he was too thin for his age. Ophelia doubted that it was because of lack of nutrients, him being the Alpha’s son and all that. ‘Perhaps what Noah said about him being sick was more serious than I thought?’ she thought, her hand moving impulsively to stroke away the strands escaping to his forehead. “Merrick Fort,” she muttered his name, trying the sound of it on her lips. As if the redhead could hear her, his eyes fluttered open. Ophelia withdrew her hands instantly with a gasp. She was too stunned to say anything so instead, she shared an awkward stare with the boy who seemed to be still half asleep. His caramel-colored eyes were still drowsy from sleeping, it had that mysterious gentleness to it. The kind that Ophelia never understood. For a minute there she
“Thank you so much for taking care of my little boy,” Everett said, holding Bernard’s hand tightly to show his gratitude. When he heard from his oldest son Oswald that Merrick was sick, he came rushing to the guest room.Merrick sat behind him on the couch, a faint blush tainting his pale skin. He was flustered with the commotion he caused during such an important time. His older brother sat next to him, placing a comforting hand on Merrick’s shoulder and whispering something in his ears.Noah stood beside his father, curiously watching the other boy.‘Did he remember Ophelia?’ he wondered, staring at Merrick till he looked back at him. Noah jumped in surprise as if he had been
“It’s time to wake up,” Ophelia groaned as she turned on her side, to avoid the light that flooded the room when Sarah opened the curtains. She has been out all night with Noah and right now she was starting to regret she did that. “Come on, Princess,” Sarah sighed, trying to grab the duvet off Ophelia. But she was holding on to it for dear life. “You will be late for your training again. You know Sir Ryan won’t be pleased.” “Nothing ever pleases that man,” Ophelia mumbled, fighting to keep the duvet. “So just let me sleep some more!” “My Lady you can’t do that!” Sarah exclaimed, finally succeeding in pulling the cover off her. “I was informed that you have a match today with the Young Lord, you can’t skip it!” Ophelia sighed in defeat as she forced herself to sit up. It was the excitement of beating Noah that trilled her enough to get up. Despite beating him over and over in the last couple of years, the matches only got more frequent. Every time his ego as the young Alpha gets
