Walker

"Grandma, what was the meaning of that?" I asked as I stormed into her study. My father, uncle, and aunt were seated on the sofa. "Don't speak to your grandmother like that," my father warned, but Grandma raised her hand, stopping him. She had her glasses on and kept going through the document in front of her. "What do you mean?" she pretended not to know.

I clenched my fists, "Why do you dislike Destiny so much? What did she ever do to you?" I asked. Grandma rolled her eyes, "I don't dislike her—" "—You don't?" I cut in, my patience was running out. "Then why would you say something so hurtful to her?!". Did she think she could get away with this one? I must have been a fool for letting go of her behavior towards Destiny.

Grandma closed the document and her gaze became icy, " Are you defending her?" she asked. Her question appalled me, "Who else am I supposed to defend?!"

My aunt quickly stood up and placed a hand on my shoulder, "Walker, dear, your grandmother is work

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 26

Destiny's POVThe nursery paint samples sat untouched on the coffee table.Bold shades of emerald, sapphire, and midnight blue—like little swatches of hope laid out for a life we were finally beginning again. It should've felt exciting. Fun, even. But every time I looked at them, my chest tightened.Because something had shifted.Walker hadn't said anything about that call from Desmond two days ago. He still kissed me good morning and ran his hand along my bump with a reverence that melted me. He still made me breakfast and dinner, curled his body around mine during late-night TV binges, and traced soft circles on my skin when he thought I was asleep. But he was holding something back.I could feel it in the way his eyes drifted when he thought I wasn't looking. In the hesitation before he picked up his phone. In the way his jaw tensed every time a notification pinged and he didn't check it right away.He was quiet—but not in the gentle, contemplative way he used to be.This silence w

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 25

A month later I was brushing my hair in the mirror when I caught the curve of my belly in the reflection. It wasn't huge—just a small, gentle swell beneath my shirt—but it was enough to make my breath catch. A baby. Our baby. I ran my fingers over the bump, slow and reverent. There was a pulse of something warm in my chest that hadn't been there in a long time—hope, maybe. Or peace. Or both. "Caught you staring again," Walker's voice teased behind me. I looked up in the mirror just as his arms slipped around my waist, his hands settling low, right over the curve. His chin rested on my shoulder, and he met my eyes in the glass. "Can you blame me?" I asked softly. He smiled. "Not at all. You're beautiful." I leaned back into him, letting the weight of his chest ground me. He kissed my shoulder, then my neck, and I could feel the smile still tugging at his lips. It had been like this lately—soft touches, shared glances, late-night talks curled together in bed. Slowly, brick by b

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 24

The waiting room was too quiet.Muted blue walls, soft classical music humming from overhead speakers, and the smell of antiseptic made me nervous. I sat stiffly in the chair, with hands folded tightly in my lap, a clipboard full of intake forms resting untouched beside me.Walker sat to my right, close but not too close. His leg bounced restlessly, a nervous tic I hadn't seen in years. He was trying to give me space, I could tell—but his fingers kept wiggling toward mine like they wanted to reach for something to support me.I couldn't help but giggle at that. He gave me a look. “Why are you laughing?” he asked.“You seem more nervous than I am. Someone would think you're the pregnant one,” I teased, nudging his shoulder. “Haha. Laugh all you want, this is nerve-racking,” he murmured. I reached over and entwined our fingers. “Relax.”He exhaled, and I caught the faintest smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Okay."A nurse called my name a moment later, and everything in my che

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 23

I woke to the scent of his skin on the pillow beside me.It was faint—soap and something warmer, something uniquely Walker—but it was enough to flood me with memories of last night. The slow press of his mouth against mine. The way he’d whispered I missed you like it physically hurt. The way he’d held me after, arms locked around me like I might slip through his fingers again. Then I remembered our talk. The words came back like a sudden drop in temperature—sharp, sobering, inevitable. It wasn’t just kisses and whispered apologies. We’d cracked ourselves open in the dark, laid out the truths we’d buried deep. The grief. The guilt. The baby. The life we weren’t sure we could rebuild. We didn't promise many things. No declarations, no vows. Just the fragile truth of where we were now.I lay still, heart thudding softly, hands curled beneath the sheets. That conversation lingered like smoke—soft and invisible, but impossible to ignore.Because of peace like this? Mornings like this? They

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 22

The silence that followed wasn’t heavy—it was warm. Full. The kind of silence that held meaning, like the world had finally paused long enough for us to breathe in sync.Walker’s chest rose and fell beneath my cheek, his heartbeat thudding gently against my skin like a lullaby. One of his hands rested on my back, fingers idly tracing circles in slow, thoughtless patterns. The other was threaded through my hair, his thumb brushing against my scalp every so often, like he was anchoring himself with me. I didn’t want him to let go.And I didn’t want to move. Not yet. I wasn’t ready to break the stillness. My body ached in the best way—sated, warm, soft—but my thoughts hadn’t settled. They swirled, messy and loud beneath the surface. How had we gotten here? One minute we were kissing like we couldn’t survive another second apart, like the air itself didn’t matter. Touching like we were still trying to prove we were real. Like two ghosts colliding in the dark. But now…Now there was the ec

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 21: Flashback

***Two months ago: Before Destiny’s pregnancy***Walker laid her down on the bed after gently cleaning her up, careful not to wake her. Her breathing remained steady, the lines of tension that had gripped her face earlier now softened in sleep. He slipped his dress shirt onto her body, buttoning it up over her curves like it was armor—like somehow, it could protect her from everything he couldn't.As he tucked the blanket around her, Destiny stirred, her brow twitching faintly."...bastard," she murmured, the word slurred with sleep but still laced with enough venom to cut through the quiet.Walker paused. His hand hovered mid-air over her shoulder before he finished pulling the blanket up. She didn't wake. He didn't respond.Maybe he deserved it. Hell, he probably did.Leaving her in the bed, he walked to the bathroom. The water in the shower was hot—scalding even—but it didn't wash away the unease crawling up his spine. When he stepped out and wrapped a towel around his waist, the a

DISCLAIMER: THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS EXPLICIT SEXUAL THEMES. READERS DISCRETION IS ADVISED ************************************************** As soon as the front door clicked shut behind us, Walker grabbed me. There was no warning—just a blur of movement and a gasp ripped from my throat as he spun me around and pressed me hard against the wall. My back hit the surface with a soft thud. “Walker—” But I didn’t get the chance to say anything else. His mouth crashed onto mine, hot and desperate. It felt like he was trying to consume me, devour me, make me feel everything he couldn’t say. This wasn’t like the kisses we used to share—those had been slow, sometimes hesitant, always sweet. This was wildfire. It tore through me, rough, hungry, like he was trying to make up for lost time… or terrified there wouldn’t be any more. His lips crushed mine, tongue pushing past, coaxing, claiming. He tasted like frustration and longing and something deeper—something I didn’t know how to name.

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 19

The soft hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses filled the grand dining hall, a golden chandelier casting a warm glow over elegantly dressed guests. I had never felt more out of place in my life. Walker had left my side only moments ago to speak with one of the board members near the fireplace. I stood by the dessert table, absentmindedly nibbling on a slice of lemon cake, the subtle tartness doing little to ease my nerves. Chairman Terrence's birthday party was everything I'd expected—polished smiles hiding sharp tongues. I watched a waiter pass by with a tray of champagne and sighed, "I wish I could have a drink." "Still pretending you belong here?" An unfamiliar sneer sliced through the air like a knife. I turned slowly, eyes narrowing as a blonde woman glided toward me, a wine glass poised delicately between her fingers. Her crimson gown clung to every curve like it had been stitched onto her skin. Angela Terrence. But I stayed silent, licking frosting from the tip

  • ONCE AGAIN   Chapter 18

Destiny's povLogan parked the car in front of the Grand Hotel. The hotel looked fancy, shining in gold with tall arches and marble columns—like a scene from an old movie. But the chaos outside took away from its beauty. Reporters, photographers, and curious onlookers crowded near the entrance, creating a hectic scene. It felt more like an award show than a birthday party for a seventy-five-year-old man.As we sat there, we faced a wall of flashing cameras. Voices shouted questions at anyone who stepped onto the red carpet. The bright lights were blinding, and the energy was intense—like being in a storm of glitter and noise. I leaned back in my seat, feeling anxious."I'm rethinking this," I said mostly to myself. This scene reminded me of why I used to say no when Walker invited us to these events.Walker, calm and collected, crouched beside me and carefully adjusted my stiletto strap. He took his time, not rushing, as if his calm could balance out the chaos outside. When he finishe
