Chapter 2

A sharp voice cut through the entire courtyard before his fist could hit me, “Chris! Stopppp!”

I let out the breath I was holding as the crowd parted for a girl marching forward. One look at her and you'd know she's all about purple, purple bag pack, purple boots, purple braids, matching purple Mascara, even her lips were lined with purple.

Two other girls walked behind her.

“Stop wasting your time,” she said, her eyes flicking over me, “Everyone’s recording. You can't be seen fighting a girl.”

Chris exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. He picked up his jacket from the ground and backed away, “Let's go guys.”

Four guys parted from the crowd and went after him, must be his friends. All four of them were extraordinarily hot and their eyes trailed over me and went after Chris.

Right before Chris disappeared into the crowd, he glanced back at me. And for a split second, he smirked.

“You must be new, I'm Vanessa, this is Maya and Leslie,” she flipped her purple hair proudly, “Are you okay?. Don't let Chris scare you.”

I blinked rapidly, Maya threw me an apologetic smile while Leslie said nothing.

“No, I'm not scared of a high school bully.” I said.

She smirked, “I like that spirit. You should totally be friends with us, not to brag but we're the coolest trio in this place.”

I smiled back even though I could tell that her smile was fake and forced. I saw people help the guy Chris beat up on his feet, he's going to need a lot of stitches.

“See you around then and you're welcome, I saved your ass so you owe me one. Let's go girls,” she marched away with Maya and Leslie.

Everyone stared at me through all of my classes, I guess I'm popular now.

Soon it was time for lunch. I had just sat down with my tray when three people slid into the seat across from me. Vanessa, Maya and Leslie.

They all plastered fake smiles across their faces, I don't know if they knew that I could tell.

“I didn't ask for your name earlier.” Vanessa spoke first.

“Rebel.” I forced a smile back.

“Cool name,” Vanessa said in her cheerful voice.

Before anyone could say anything else, a loud voice filled the entire cafeteria, I had to cover my ears.

“Maryville high, welcome the reigning champion, Chris Kane, a.k.a Lucifer,” a guy standing on a table announced.

Everyone began to cheer and brawl in loud voices as Chris walked into the cafeteria accompanied by the four guys from earlier.

“That's my Chris!” Vanessa cheered the loudest

My breath was taken away this time. Now that Chris wasn't covered in blood he looked super hot. He was no doubt the hottest in the room, dominating height with tight abs straining over his shirt, the other four guys behind him didn't look bad either. Pure athletic jocks.

Somehow Chris's green emerald eyes met mine. I forgot to breathe for a moment as our eyes locked. No!, I can't crush on a guy like that, he reminded me too much of Marcus.

“Ahhhh!” I suddenly screamed as something liquid spilled over my head.

I glanced at my shirt and saw…blood?. I'm covered in blood?. My breath became unstable, I couldn't breath.

“I'm so sorry Rebel,” Vanessa’s apologies barely reached my ears, “I didn't mean to, I was on top of the table cheering for Chris when my drink fell out of my hand ”

Her loud voice caused people's attention to turn to us. I looked around, even Chris and his friends were staring at me now.

“New girl, stop pulling stunts to gain people's attention,” a girl from the other table yelled at me.

“Shut up Taylor,” Maya shouted at her, “let's help her clean up.”

I stood up abruptly, my head was spinning, “No. I'll just go to the bathroom.”

I tried to convince myself it wasn't blood, just a drink but I was still struggling to breath. My fear of blood was getting the best of me.

I ran out of the cafeteria, when I passed my Chris, he smirked and mouthed, “Don't mess with me next time blonde princess.”

Was this planned?.

When I reached the bathroom, I quickly took off my white shirt, leaving only my black lacy bra. I took three deep breaths to calm myself.

“Oh shit!” I muttered to myself as I turned on the faucet and washed my hair in the basin and the rest of my top body, spilling water on the floor.

I looked at myself in the mirror, my hair was dripping wet, so was the top of my full breast.

“Ahhh?” I jumped in fright as I saw someone else in the mirror.

I spun around sharply to see three guys leaning against the cubicle doors, smoke clouded their faces from the lightened cigarette between their fingers.

“Perverts!” I screamed, “What are you three doing here?” I frantically reached for my shirt but I remembered it was bloody so I covered my breast with my hands. I don't even have anything to change into, I'm such an idiot.

“You're the one in the boys bathroom,” one of them with brown curls said.

Boys bathroom?. Shit.

“You gave us quite a show undressing like that,” the second said.

“And you also gave us a hard-on. Hey you're the princess from this morning,” the third one said.

“Yeah” the first guy to speak looked at me properly again, “It's you. Didn't know you’re a striper.” All three of them cackled.

“I’m not a princess. You think this is funny. Get out of here, fools,” I was immediately enraged. I took off one of my shoes and threw it at them.

“You b*tch!” brown curls cursed as my shoe hit his nose.

I took off my other shoe and flung it at him again but he dodged this time, “You want to fight us blonde princess?.”

“You should be running away from us,” the shortest of the trio said.

“I'm not scared of three wannabe bullies. You look like shit I flush down the toilet daily,” I mouthed, feeling bold.

They gasped, staring at me with wide eyes. The door suddenly slammed open.

I walked into the cafeteria alone, keeping my eyes straight ahead. The elegant cafeteria was crowded and noisy, with students sitting in groups around almost every table. Conversations overlapped, chairs scraped against the floor. I ignored all of it.I joined the line, collected my food, and found an empty table near the windows.I sat down alone. That was exactly how I wanted it.I picked up my fork and started eating, refusing to look around even when I could feel the occasional glance in my direction.I was halfway through my meal when a shadow fell across my table.Chris stood there.Behind him were four guys I recognized as his friends although I couldn't say I knew any of them well. They all looked like they had been assembled specifically to intimidate people. One was broad-shouldered with a serious face, another was tall with his sleeves rolled up, another had a permanent-looking frown, and the last one had the kind of expression that made him look like he had never laughed i

Nobody was actually staring at me the moment I got to class. Normally, I expected to feel their eyes before I even reached my seat. They should follow me from the doorway, move with me as I walked between the desks, and sometimes linger long enough to make me wonder if there was something written across my forehead that I didn't know about. But there was no whispers, no strange looks, no one pretending not to look at me while obviously looking at me.It should have felt like a relief, but somehow, it made me more suspicious.I walked to my seat and dropped my bag beside my chair, glancing around the classroom.Almost everyone had their phones out. That was when I noticed the real problem. They weren't watching me because they were watching something else.Several students were gathered together, some sitting with their phones held between them while others leaned over desks to see someone else's screen. A few people had their hands over their mouths, and there were occasional quiet r

I kept walking. That was the only thing I could think of doing.Everywhere I went, someone seemed to be looking at me, whispering behind a hand, nudging a friend, or pretending to be busy with their phone while secretly taking pictures of me. It would have been easy to let it get under my skin, especially when I could still feel the delicate skin around my neck and arms underneath my uniform, but I refused to give them the satisfaction.I had already spent too much time worrying about what people thought of me.I wasn't doing it anymore. If these people wanted to stare, they could stare until their eyes hurt. They clearly had nothing better to do.Maryville was full of rich, spoiled teenagers who had probably never had to worry about where their next meal was coming from. Whether their parents could afford their school fees, or what they were going to do with their lives once their parents stopped paying for everything.Their biggest problem was usually who was dating whom, who had

The next morning, I stood in front of my mirror, staring at myself.I looked normal. My school uniform was neat, my hair was brushed, and my shoes were polished. Nothing about me screamed that I had spent the previous day recovering from burns caused by someone who had deliberately messed with my shower to hurt me.But when I moved closer to the mirror, I could see the difference. The skin around my neck was still delicate, with parts of it slightly red beneath the treatment the doctor had given me. My arms were worse.I carefully adjusted my sleeves, making sure they covered as much as they could without looking suspicious.I took a breath and grabbed my school bag.Today was going to be fine.I opened my bedroom door and stepped into the hallway. The house was unusually busy. I heard voices downstairs. I frowned and headed down the stairs. When I reached the last step, I stopped. My father was standing near the front door with Susan beside him, while some of the maids brought in lug

I woke up with my cheek pressed against my pillow and absolutely no idea what time it was.For a few seconds, I stayed still, staring at the wall while my brain slowly caught up with reality. Then I remembered. The burn. The doctor. The day off school. And Sean.I pushed myself up carefully, expecting to hear something from the other side of my room.Nothing.I looked around. The chair where Sean had been sitting was empty, the cards from earlier were still scattered across the little table, and the half-empty bowl of popcorn was sitting exactly where we'd left it.Sean was gone.I checked the time on my phone. I had slept for almost two hours. Not that he needed my permission, obviously, but after spending the whole morning with me, I had somehow expected him to still be there when I woke up.I reached for my phone and checked my messages.Nothing from him.I stared at the screen for a moment before putting it down. Why did I even care?He had probably gone downstairs to do something

I was halfway through my breakfast when I realized Sean had been watching me.He was sitting across from mm with his arms folded over his chest, looking far too serious for someone who had just made me breakfast. I swallowed another bite and raised an eyebrow.“What?”“Nothing.”“You've been looking at me for the past five minutes.”“I was making sure you were eating.”I looked down at my plate. The food was already disappearing, “I am eating.”“I can see that.”“Then stop watching me.”His mouth twitched, “I'll stop when you're done.”I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't stop myself from smiling. It was strange having someone fuss over me like this.Especially Sean.Normally, missing school would have sounded like a dream. But under these circumstances, it felt different. I didn't like being injured. I didn't like feeling weak.I pushed the food around my plate, unable to eat anymore. Sean noticed immediately, “What?”I shook my head, “Nothing.”I stared at him for a second before look

Dad wasn’t alone. A woman sat opposite him, smiling warmly. She had long gray hair and bold green eyes, she sat confidently with her legs crossed.
