Laura in the dimly lit room sat at the edge of her bed with a heavy tension, her finger tracing the intricate pattern of her milky silk and lace wedding gown.
It reminded her of a dream she couldn't accomplish due to her family's plight.
She gazed out the window with tears rolling down her cheeks, she stared at the stars wishing all that she was going through was only a dream.
Laura's life turned into a misery, She was in pain and agony. She began to feel like a pawn in a game of fate.
It began a few months back when her father Markson made a Desperate plea to save his sinking business.
His warehouse was razed down, and he had borrowed a substantial amount of money from the ruthless billionaire Daniel Edward.
With the promise of expanding his warehouse and turning it into a thriving empire, the deal seemed like a lifeline at the time but fate had a cruel way of intervening.
Markson was given only two options by Daniel.
He was told to repay his debt or go to jail, but on the other hand, Daniel demanded that he marry Laura to spare him.
Mr.Markson received a call one fateful night...
A massive fire had consumed his warehouse turning everything in it to ashes.
She remembered how helpless and hopeless her dad was, she remembered her father standing amidst unrecoverable goods, his dreams, and many years of hard work crushing mercilessly.
He hoped the insurance would cover the loss but they couldn't and the debt of Daniel remained.
Laura's brother Bryan was the first to suggest the unthinkable.
He suggested Laura get married to Daniel Edward to prevent their dad from going to jail.
Bryan knew Daniel Edward had always wanted his way with his sister and this was the perfect opportunity to use his sister to gain favor from Daniel.
The suggestion arose from protests, tears, and arguments.
Laura's parents were to choose between their love for her and their desire to prevent their family from going bankrupt and worst of all letting her dad go to jail.
Her room door creaked open and her mom Claudia entered the room.
Claudia who had been crying, her eyes red, her voice trembling as she spoke, "Laura darling, I know this is not the life you wished for, a lot has happened in our lives but we'd never imagined to be in this kind of situation."
Laura with tears rolling down her cheeks looked up at her mom.
"Laura, our family welfare and your father's life are at stake. We have no other choice." Claudia said with a low shaking voice.
She looked at her mom, a woman who had always stood by her, encouraged, and nurtured her.
"Mom I know, but I can't stand marrying Daniel Edward. I don't love him and he's so mean and arrogant. How can I achieve my dreams with such a person?"
Claudia held onto Laura's hand, her hands were trembling. "I know my dear, this is a hard choice to make, but please you have to do this."
"We will always be there for you no matter what. This is a hard situation but we'll try our best to manage it. Bryan believes this is the only way to save our family from this mess." Claudia said.
"Mom this is so unfair, I haven't finished my education, my life is going to be a mess," Laura said, her heart heavy with responsibility.
Laura knew her family's future was at stake.
She agreed to make the sacrifice but deep inside, her emotions raged within her.
She couldn't imagine surrendering her future to a man whom she despised so much.
Laura's family prepared tirelessly for the wedding.
Her dad was relieved as the wedding day drew nearer. Laura met with the wedding planner, tried on jewelry, and also selected a luxury venue for the wedding.
It was a desperate gamble to save their family from financial ruin.
The night before the wedding, she stood outside helplessly, gazing at the stars. The thought of her decision became a burden to her.
Laura thought deeply if there was a way she could get herself out of this difficult situation. She wondered if there was a chance for her to escape it.
"What troubles you Laura ?" a voice from behind said in a calm voice."
She turned immediately, and there was her brother Bryan staring at her with a look of Pity written all over his face.
"I know this situation isn't easy on you, but cheer up girl, your wedding is tomorrow."
Laura was going through an emotional trauma and couldn't help it.
"Bryan, I'm about to marry a man I don't love and you expect me to cheer up?" Laura said, her voice tight.
Bryan signed and held her hands. "I know this is not what you or any of us wanted, but you're doing this to save our family's welfare, we will figure it out together."
Laura took a deep breath and nodded. She was helpless, her eyes reflecting with a mixture of fear and determination.
"I'm only doing this for the sake of our family, but I think there's something fishy about Daniel Edward that we don't seem to know, he's hiding something."
Bryan looked straight to her face with his eyes locked to hers. " You are getting yourself worked up, I think you should get some sleep, it's a big day tomorrow."
She knew Daniel had a dark secret. Laura hesitated for a moment, she came closer and whispered, "I overheard Daniel talking to someone on the phone, he instructed that it should remain a secret but I couldn't hear the
details."
Bryan became curious and he nodded. "We need to keep an eye on him." He replied.
He instructed Laura to be careful and told her not to tell it to anyone. "Laura I will stand by you no matter what, you have to trust me."
The day was finally here, and a sense of doubt enveloped her. Laura knew her life and the world she knew was about to change.
The mystery surrounding Daniel Edward's intentions gnawed at her.
Laura couldn't help but wonder if it was the beginning of a dangerous game, and the thought of what she was going to go through baffled her.
This was a risk she decided to take to save her family.
She knew the truth was yet to be revealed, she braced herself for a journey she didn't know what the outcome would be.
She promised to find out what Daniel Edward was hiding and most importantly protect her family no matter the cost.
"Sir, you have a patient in ward 35 who needs your attention," a nurse reported as she walked into Harold's office.Harold, maintaining his composure, nodded. "Okay, I'll be right there," he replied.Steadying his emotions, Harold composed himself and left his office. When Laura was discharged, she felt so emotional that she didn't want to see Harold before leaving the hospital. Seeing him would only make her longing for him more intense, despite his explanations. As she and her maid Venessa entered the car, her phone rang. Glancing at the screen, Laura immediately answered, "Hi, dear." Her voice was sore."Hey... Darling, are you still at the hospital?" Daniel inquired worriedly."We're about to leave now," Laura replied."Alright, so how are you feeling?" Daniel asked."I'm better now, Daniel. At least I can stand on both feet," Laura said, rolling her eyes dramatically.Daniel let out a sigh of relief. "I'm happy to hear that. I have to go now, but I'll call you later," he said befo
Laura chuckled lightly, a playful glint in her eyes. "Why are you so worried about me? I'll be fine, alright... just focus on your trip," she reassured Daniel, with a gentle smile.Daniel, with a playful smirk, responded, "Alright, darling, be good," before giving her a quick kiss and heading out the door. He was bubbling with excitement, his mind already halfway across the ocean to Paris, where he couldn't wait to share the good news with his parents. As Daniel's car disappeared from view, Laura felt a sudden sense of freedom wash over her. It would have been the perfect time to reach out to Harold if she wanted to, but somehow, the desire to reconnect with him had faded. Their relationship had lost its meaning, replaced by the complexities of her new life. The weight of her pregnancy pressed down on her, making every movement a chore. She had promised Daniel she would stick to her medical appointments, and today was no exception. Her pregnancy sickness had been relentless, and she
Laura understood that Harold was alluding to their failed relationship, and his speech irked her, making her eager to leave."Daniel, can we go home now?" She urged, gazing at him."Alright...I need to let Harold know that we're leaving," Daniel replied.Daniel and Laura got up from their seats, ready to leave the party. Before they could go, they bumped into Harold. "Hey, Harold, we're heading out," Daniel said to him."Alright, I'll walk you out," Harold said as they left through the door.Harold accompanied them to their car, saying goodbye as they departed."Does she think I will come back and keep begging for her forgiveness? I can't do that anymore, I'm fucking done with that shit!" Harold thought as he watched them drive off.Harold was having a great time at his party and didn't want anything to spoil his mood, that was the reason he ignored Laura completely. Daniel and Laura returned to the mansion, but Laura couldn't get over Harold's change of attitude. She couldn't believ
"Would you like to go with me to his birthday over the weekend?" Daniel inquired, his voice calm."Ok...I mean...if that's what you want." Laura replied, shrugging her shoulders.Daniel scoffed and dragged her to the bed playfully. "You are such an amazing woman, what would I do without you?" He muffled, poking her nose.As the affectionate words of Daniel echoed in Laura's ears, she couldn't help but wonder about Daniel's love for her. He was too caring and loving to the core."I know that people change, but Daniel's change of attitude surprises me up till now. I never knew he could be so loving and kind."Harold made his birthday a special one. Aside from celebrating his birthday, he was also celebrating his new life. He was able to get over Laura and decided to move on too, that was the best decision he took for the sake of his sanity. He almost went crazy longing for someone who never wanted him again."No more!""No more!"Harold's birthday was expensive but simple. Invited a few
Laura struggled to keep Harold out of her thoughts. "I can't let him get in my head, I only need to focus on my newfound love with Daniel. I still love Harold but I can't afford my heart to be shattered again." Laura thought deeply, staring at Harold.Harold waited patiently for Laura to speak, but she remained silent, lost in her own thoughts."Laura, can you please say something?" Harold interjected, reaching out to gently grasp her hand."Don't touch me.." She said, taking a step backward.Tears rolled down Harold's cheeks uncontrollably, noticing that Laura remained indifferent towards him.His pleas didn't change a thing and worse, Laura said something that he never expected to hear from her."I'm sorry, I don't love you anymore, Harold.""The only man I love right now is Daniel and my life seems to be so much easier now because he loves me too. So please just leave me alone."Harold was star-struck, his eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't comprehend that everything that he a
Harold lay down slowly, his breath soft and steady. Lizzy, fueled by desire, swiftly tore open his shirt, eager to seize the moment, and kissed his lips."Laura... Laura..." Harold's voice trembled, lost in his own illusions. Mistaking Lizzy Laura, he reached out, grasping her face, holding her close, longing for the comfort of what he believed was there."Lizzy asked, her eyebrows creasing in confusion, 'Who's Laura?' And suddenly, Harold fell asleep right away because he was drunk.""Harold," she said, gently tapping his cheek, but he remained unresponsive. "I guess I should leave him alone. I wonder who Laura is," Lizzy pondered, sighing heavily.Lizzy, out of kindness, took off Harold's shoes and covered him with a blanket. She chose to let him be, even though she couldn't have her way with him.Harold, slowly opening his eyes, realized that he was in an unknown place. He wearily sat up on the bed, wiping his eyes.Immediately, Lizzy walked in. "Hey, sleepy head, you are up." She
Harold leaned forward, giving Sidney a serious gaze. "Please I want you to leave." He said, feeling exhausted."Did he just ask me to leave his house? No...I don't think he's been serious." Sidney thought."Didn't you hear me? I said leave!" Harold exclaimed. "Harold, you need to calm down, you are not thinking straight right now." Sidney stuttered a bit.Harold didn't want to hear any more nonsense from her, so he quickly stood up, went to the door, and opened it. "Get out!" He yelled, his eyes raging with anger."Alright...ok...I'm leaving." Sidney stammered, exiting the door.Harold was obviously frustrated and needed to take it out on someone. "What's gotten into him?" Sidney muttered, looking confused. She stood in front of the door for some minutes, hoping that Harold would let her in again, but unfortunately, he didn't open up, so she left.Harold slammed his fist against the wall in frustration, muttering, "I can't handle this anymore, I just can't." He began sobbing heavily.
Rolland's heart was melted by his son's apology and he didn't want his visit at the guest house to end in quarrels and arguments with his son. He had to let it slide.Rolland took a deep breath and leaned forward, gazing at Bryan. "Listen, son, I'm concerned about your safety, and I don't want you getting into any trouble. Everything I'm doing is for your own good," Rolland explained, trying to make Bryan understand his perspective."I understand Sir, I'm sorry," Bryan interjected, sounding polite with a hint of obedience."I can't wait to get out of here. I'm tired of all this drama," Bryan thought to himself, trying to maintain composure.Rolland smiled, feeling pleased that Bryan seemed to have finally understood his intentions. Then, he dropped a bombshell."You're moving out of the guest house today. I've arranged a new apartment for you," Rolland revealed. With a hint of disbelief, Bryan exclaimed in excitement, "Really? Thank you so much, Sir!" Springing up from the bed.Rollan
Bryan stepped into the pulsating rhythm of the club, feeling the bass thump through his chest as he melded into the energetic crowd. He laughed with newfound friends, lost in the euphoria of the music and the moment. After a while he made his way to the sleek bar, ordering his drink, he leaned against the counter.Taking in the scene around him, Bryan scanned the room, and there, across the dance floor, he spotted Gina with two of her friends. "Damn it! Isn't that Gina?" He thought eyes widened in shock. His heart skipped a beat as memories flooded back, but he pushed them aside.Bryan contemplated on whether to approach Gina or not, but a wave of hesitation washed over him. "I can't let her see me, I'll feel so embarrassed." He pondered and stayed put.Frustrated, he sipped his wine, each sip heavier than the other. With a sigh, Bryan set the glass down, quietly slipping away from the bar. He made his way to the exit, his steps purposeful yet tinged with disappointment.Bryan couldn
