LOGINWren’s pov
“You’re drunk.” It was the only reasonable thing to say, the only thing that made sense given Dani was leaning close to me like that. “A little.” He admitted, like it was nothing, like he didn’t just ask if he could kiss me. “Then you should move… I’m your friend, not some random girl you could throw such words at.” I kept my voice calm even though my blood had literally run cold. “We should pretend this never happened.” He didn’t move. “Dani.” I pressed on longer. It was getting awkward by the minute. I stood up once he leaned away. “I’ll be leaving, goodnight, Dani.” My voice was almost shaky. “Get back home safely.” I turned to walk away when he grabbed me by my arm. Not hard but strong enough to stop me from walking away. He stood up, leaning closer to me but not the uncomfortable kind, his eyes were dark and plain. “Dani..:” I trailed quietly. “Are you really going to leave?” He asked, from the frown on his lips I could tell he had something else in mind to blurt out but changed his mind at the last minute. “Of course I’m going to leave.” I frowned, twisting my hand away from him but it barely did anything. How delusional I was to think I could have more strength than an athlete? Even in his drunk state I was no match for him so I didn’t bother struggling anymore. His hand slid from my wrist to my waist, I stood for a second dumbfounded and my body froze in shock. He suddenly pressed his lips against mine, literally sucking the air out of me. I struggled to push him off but to no avail so I decided to give in. My hands felt heavy even as they were empty, so I leaned them on his chest, closing my eyes and telling myself this was going to be over soon enough. I kissed him back. I kissed him back because I apparently am the person who makes the worst decisions when I’m in the same space as Dani Calloway. I grabbed the front of his shirt, pulling him closer to me. My head went quirky, no thoughts just two people kissing and almost losing themselves. I felt lighter having him this close… What was I thinking?. I pushed him away, gasping for air. “Fuck.” I gasped, brushing my fingers through my hair. Looking at him I went still, he was still very close to me, his thumb gently touching my lips that were probably already swollen thanks to him. Then I heard footsteps behind him, I moved slightly away and gulped. “Bla…” Before I could fully blurt out his name he was storming towards us. “So this is the reason why you came, huh?” He roared, I stepped back so fast I nearly lost my footing, Dani reached out to hold me from falling with one hand before letting go of me instantly, both of us turning to face Blake. I stood between them. “It’s not what you think Blake.” He stopped. “Don’t you fucking tell me that shit.” He snapped at me and turned his gaze to Dani. “I’m done with your shit, I’m going to teach you not to mess with what’s mine!” He snarled, pulling me away from Dani’s side to stand behind him. “Dani is drunk, he had no idea what…” “Fucking shut it.” He threw a punch straight at Dani’s jaw. The drink in his hand hit the grass, Dani’s head snapped sideways from the impact, Blake didn’t stop, he swung again but Dani caught his hand this time. Two of them grappled while a handful of other students gathered around cheering them on. “Stop.” I moved towards them, trying my hardest to tear them apart. “Stop it, Blake stop…” “Get away Wren,” Dani warned, dodging another punch from Blake, the cut on his mouth from earlier had reopened and fresh blood seeped out from his lip. “Both of you, stop.” I reached for Blake’s arm, trying to get him to stop, but neither of them even spared a glance towards me. Blake was either focused on giving more punches or blocking the ones Dani lunged at him. Dani was also doing the same thing. “How dare you touch my girl?” Blake snarled. “There are lots of bitches you could kiss in this damn party and you chose mine?” “Well, it’s not like she hated it.” Dani chuckled darkly, his eyes staring joyously at the punches he had inflicted on Blake. “Stop this madness, please,” I begged. It was my fault and I didn’t want this to continue “Keep your damn mouth shut.” Blake snapped, glaring at me. “Why do you have to be such a bitch to me? You really must be toying with me that much, huh?” “It’s not what you think, I already explained to you.” “Save your fucking lies for later.” Blake snarled, his eyes burning with rage. “I tried not to hope for the worst but you’ve finally given me every reason to.” “So daring of you to say, you treat her like trash and I believe I’m only doing this to make her realize she doesn’t have to remain with a self-centered psycho head who isn’t loved at home.” Dani sneered. “Come on druggie, aren’t the pills enough to keep you calm anymore?” “Dani quit talking nonsense, are you trying to…” Dani turned around to look at me. “You really don’t know a lot about the guy you’re dating, do you really know what he’s like?” I gritted my teeth. “I know he doesn’t take advantage of girls as you do.” I snapped back at him. “You think you’re better than him? You’re nothing more than a man whore, you’ve practically slept with the whole school if not more.” “I can say the same for your darling boyfriend.” He smirked, when all of a sudden Blake swung his fist towards him. Dani swerved and dodged, kicking him in the side. I was about to step in between them again when I felt a hand push me.DaniThe cold brick wall felt freezing against my hands, but the blood rushing through my head was burning hot. I kept my grip tight on Ross’s jacket, my chest heaving up and down."Answer me, Ross!" I choked out, with tears of rage and confusion blurring my eyes. "Why are you doing this to us? Why were you spying on her? Why were you taking photos of her window?!"Ross didn't fight back. He didn't try to push my hands off him. He just leaned against the wall, staring down at me with a terrifyingly calm expression."I wasn't spying on her to hurt her, Dani," Ross said quietly. His voice didn't sound angry. It sounded hollow, like he was talking about the weather. "I was watching. I was measuring.""Measuring what?!" I screamed into his face. "You left the bar! You lied to me! You told me you were going to watch Blake, but you were lurking in the shadows outside our apartment!""I was at the bar," Ross replied smoothly, his dark eyes unwavering. "I kept my eye on Blake just like I prom
DaniI couldn't breathe.I stood on the icy rink at the campus arena, gripping my hockey stick so hard my knuckles were numb through my thick gloves. The coach’s whistle blew loudly, echoing off the high ceilings, but I barely heard it."Calloway! What the hell was that pass?!" Coach shouted from the sidelines. "Your head isn't in the game today! Get off the ice!"I didn't argue. I skated off the ice, ripped my helmet off, and slammed it against the bench.I couldn't focus. I couldn't skate. Every time I closed my eyes, all I saw was Wren’s hurt, angry face from this morning.A brute. She called me a brute. The words felt like a sharp dagger twisted right into my ribs. I loved her more than my own life. I would throw myself in front of a moving train for her. But she looked at Vance like he was a saint, and she looked at me like I was a monster."Something is wrong," I muttered to myself, tearing my skates off in the locker room. "Something is terribly wrong."My gut was screaming at
WrenHe guided me through a pair of double archways into a private, dimly lit reception lounge overlooking the inner courtyard. Soft jazz piano music hummed through hidden speakers. Scattered around plush velvet sofas and marble high-top tables were small groups of impeccably dressed men and women, sipping vintage wine from crystal flutes.I froze, clutching my handbag tightly. I recognized those faces."Dr. Reeves..." I gasped, my heart skipping a beat. "Is that... is that Evelyn Vance-Cross?!"Evelyn Vance-Cross was a living legend… the world-renowned literary critic whose essays I had cited in almost every major paper I had written in college."Indeed it is," Dr. Reeves smiled, resting his hand gently on the small of my back to guide me forward. "And beside her is Arthur Pendelton, the editor-in-chief of the National Literary Review, and Professor Marcus Sterling from Oxford."My head swam. These were academic titans. Literary royalty. Icons whose books sat on my nightstand, people
Wren"It's easier for him to attack my character than to admit he failed to protect you when you needed him most," Vance said smoothly, his voice dripping with gentle logic. "You mustn't let his emotional volatility drag you down, Wren. You have a brilliant future ahead of you."He leaned forward, his dark eyes shining with enthusiasm. "Which brings me to the fellowship. I want to accelerate your research proposal. My family owns a private historic brownstone downtown, it houses an extensive, private collection of rare 19th-century manuscripts that aren't open to the public. It would give your paper an unbeatable advantage.""A private estate library?" I asked, my eyes widening with interest. "Really?""Yes," Vance nodded smoothly. "I can take you there this evening. It will be quiet, peaceful, and entirely free from the noise and drama of the campus. We can review the texts and finalize your application draft in peace.""That sounds amazing, Professor," I said, a genuine smile breaki
Wren The morning sun poured through the kitchen window, but it did not bring any warmth into the apartment.I sat at the wooden dining table, cradling a mug of warm water. Purple and dark blue bruises were already forming around my wrists where Julian’s heavy gloved hands had clamped down on me the night before. Every time I moved my fingers, a dull ache shot up my arms.Across the room, Dani stood by the counter, brewing coffee. He was completely silent. He hadn't said a word to me since we woke up. His broad back was stiff, and his dark hair was messy. The heavy, suffocating tension from the night before was still hanging between us like a thick brick wall."Dani?" I murmured softly, breaking the silence. "Are you going to ignore me all day?"Dani poured the hot coffee into a mug. He turned around slowly, resting his hands on the edge of the counter. His dark eyes looked exhausted, surrounded by dark circles. He looked like he hadn't slept a single minute."I'm not ignoring you, Wr
WrenBANG!The heavy oak door of the office was slammed open so violently it bounced against the wall.I jumped in surprise. Vance instantly stood up, stepping protectively in front of my sofa.Dani stood in the doorway. He looked completely wild. His hair was messy, his dark leather jacket was unzipped, and his chest was heaving as if he had just run a marathon. In his right hand, he was clutching my cracked, broken smartphone."Wren!" Dani roared, his dark eyes sweeping over the room until they landed on me."Dani!" I gasped, dropping the gray blanket and standing up.Dani strode into the room in three massive steps, grabbing my arms and pulling me tightly against his chest. He buried his face in my hair, his whole body trembling with raw, desperate fear."God, Wren... I found your phone smashed in the side parking lot," Dani breathed out, his voice cracking with emotion. "I saw the police lights... I thought someone took you. Are you okay?! Did he hurt you?!""I'm okay, Dani, I'm o
WRENThe ceiling of my dorm room had a crack in it shaped like a question mark. I'd spent the last three weeks staring at it. I had been on the list for a room change for a week. I kept staring at my phone, hoping for good news."Wren." Ross snapped his fingers in front of my face. "Are you even li

WREN “Damn you, Dani.” I turned around and literally sprinted to my room, my cheeks flustered. Did Dani just wink at me? I dropped my plate on the nightstand and plopped on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I slapped myself lightly wondering if this was a dream but from the slight sting I coul
