LOGINTHEODORE
I shoved my way out of the Cupid Den, the cold night air hitting my face like a slap. I ripped the tech mask off my neck, tearing a tiny layer of skin with it, but I didn't care. The sting was nothing compared to the absolute humiliation burning in my chest. I was a useless Alpha, I couldn't even get my fucking cock to stand. By the time the royal transport dropped me off at the palace, I was practically radiating anger. I stormed through the grand corridors, wanting nothing more than to lock myself in my room and sleep for a week. "Your Highness!" A young servant scurried up to me, bowing so low his forehead almost touched his knees. "What?" I snarled, not even slowing down. "General Evander has been looking for you, sir. He requested to see you the moment you returned." My hands clenched into fists inside my jacket pockets. "Tell the General to go fuck himself," I snapped. The servant gasped, his face turning pale as he stumbled backward. I ignored him and kept walking, taking the stairs two at a time. Of all the people in this goddamn palace, Evander was the absolute last person I wanted to see. Just hearing his name made my stomach do a weird, traitorous flip. "Theodore." I froze at the top of the stairs. Evander was standing there, leaning against the marble pillar near the entrance to my wing. He had his military dress uniform on, looking perfectly put together, though he still looked a little pale around the edges from the venom. He straightened up when he saw me, his sharp eyes locking onto mine. I scowled, my posture instantly stiffening. "What do you want, General? Come to brag about how my father loves you more than his own son? Save it. I'm not in the mood." Evander didn't take the bait. He stepped closer, his expression serious. "I wanted to thank you." I let out a harsh, ugly laugh. "Thank me? For what? Letting you drag me into a rat trap?" "For staying, though we both know you dragged us into the rat trap." Evander said, though he murmured the last part which made me snarl. His voice was quiet but steady. "The doctor told me what happened. You could have left when the communications went back up, but you stayed by my side. You saved my life, Theodore." My heart hammered against my ribs, a sudden wave of heat rushing straight to my face. He didn't know. He actually had no fucking clue. He thought I'd just sat there holding his hand or some shit. "Save your thanks," I sneered, taking a step toward him to look him dead in the eye, trying to ignore the way my nose was practically begging to catch a hint of his scent. "And quite frankly, it’s a good thing your useless brain can't remember what actually happened in that cave. Otherwise, you'd realize just how pathetic you looked." Evander's brow furrowed, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What is that supposed to mean?" "It means you're a brute," I spat, my voice dripping with venom. "A big, stupid, glorified soldier who almost died because he couldn't handle a little golden poison. You're a chicken, Evander. You were whining like a beaten dog." A muscle jumped in Evander's jaw. The gratitude in his eyes vanished, replaced by the familiar spark of irritation. Good. I wanted him to be angry. I wanted him far away from me. "I am trying to be civil, Your Highness," Evander said, his voice dropping an octave. "Well, don't bother," I snapped, stepping right into his personal space, my finger jabbed into his chest. "I don't need your civility, and I sure as hell don't want you near me. Get out of my face, General. “If I see you lingering around my wing again, I will make your life an absolute living hell. I might not be my father's favorite, but I am still the Crown Prince, and I can still make sure your military career ends up in the gutter." Evander stared down at my hand on his chest, then slowly looked back up at me. His eyes were dark, searching my face with a strange intensity that made my breath catch. "Am I understood?" I demanded, my voice shaking slightly despite my best efforts. "Perfectly, Your Highness," Evander murmured. I ripped my hand back, shoved past his shoulder, and marched down the hallway to my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I rested my head against the wood, my heart beating frankly as a strange sensation began to climb up my chest. The fuck was wrong with me? Why was I feeling guilty for the way I talked to him? I closed my eyes, taking deep, steadying breaths until the phantom scent of the General stopped screaming in my mind. When I finally calmed down, I opened my eyes. "The fuck!" I shrieked, jumping back so hard my spine cracked against the wood of the door. Lying flat on my bed, propped up on his elbows with his chin resting in his hands, was Oliver. He was a pretty, petite Omega with a head of messy curls and pretty blue eyes, and he was currently looking at me like I was a highly entertaining holovid. "You really need to lock your balcony doors, Theo," Oliver said, kicking his feet back and forth. "It is way too easy to climb up here." I pressed a hand to my chest, my glaring gaze trying to melt him on the spot. "What the fuck are you doing in my room, Ollie? I could have had the guards execute you!" "Please. The guards know me," he scoffed, rolling over onto his back and staring at the ceiling. "Besides, I couldn't wait. You've been back for days and you've been acting like a hermit. Tell me everything. How was the delegation? Did you actually have to talk to the rats?"EVANDER'S POV"Targeting lock confirmed," Penelope said, keying the final coordinates into her handheld drive and handing it to me. "The portal sequence is synced to the ship's nav-system.""Good," I sighed, sliding the drive into my belt pocket. "Keep monitoring the frequency."I turned toward the door to head down to the boarding bay, but before Penelope and I could step into the hall, a royal courier came sprinting around the corner. He stopped in front of us, out of breath."General Evander!" the courier gasped. "His Majesty commands your immediate presence in the throne room.""I don't have time for a briefing," I said, walking past him. "My squad is already boarding.""It's not a briefing, sir," the courier said quickly, turning to follow me. "Princess Odan has just landed. She's in the throne room right now."I stopped. What could the princess want at the this time, surely she wasn't stupid enough to come at this time to demand the promise made. Surely she wasn't coming for me.
THEODOREAs the door opened slid open, the hallway light stabbed into my eyes. I turned my face away, but it was too late. My vision blurred.A doctor stepped inside carrying a plastic tray. He set it on the table beside my cot.A glass of water and a bowl of gray paste... again.“Eat,” he said. “Morton wants your blood sugar up before the next run.”My stomach clenched as I stared at the bowl. The smell alone made bile rise in my throat. My fingers curled into the mattress, not that again. I am not eating that again.I reached for the tray and knocked it onto the floor.I watched as the glass shattered and the gray paste splattered across the doctor’s shoes. For a second, neither of us moved, immediately I braced myself for the also I know was coming. His hand cracked across my face, the forcr made my head slam against the wall.Pain flashed behind my eyes, right before I tasted blood.“You're not in a palace, Prince.” He wiped his boot against the floor. “You're a test subject. Act
My comms unit clicked."General, get down to the military bay now," Penelope's voice came through, fast and sharp. "Don't ask questions. Just come."I left King Madina in the council chamber and headed straight down the stairs to the sub-level.Penelope sat at the primary console, her fingers tapping against her keyboard. She didn't look up when the security door slid open."Watch this," she said, hitting a key.The main display flickered, playing the broadcast again. Doctor Morton’s smooth voice filled the small room, but Penelope grabbed the trackpad, zooming past the doctor’s face and cutting out the medical equipment on the tray."Penelope, I've seen it," I said, my voice tight. "I don't need to watch him get hurt again.""Ignore the doctor," she snapped, pointing at the glass. "Ignore what he's saying, and stop looking at his stomach. Look at his left hand."I stepped up to the console, leaning over her shoulder to look at the frame.Theodore’s left wrist was belted to the armre
The comms unit on my belt buzzed three times, then every screen along the palace corridor flickered and went dark. A second later, a static white light filled the displays.Queen Eleanor froze, her hand gripping my forearm so hard her nails dug through my coat. The screens snapped to a clear video feed. There was no sender tag or location name—just a wide shot of a white room with a steel chair in the middle. My knees buckled as I saw him.Theodore was strapped down to it. Leather belts were pulled tight across his chest, thighs, and wrists. His shirt had been cut open down the front.I could feel my body suddenly freezing, every muscle locking as though my mind could not accept what I was seeing. A sharp gasp tore out of Queen Eleanor’s throat, her entire body trembling against my side, and for a second I couldn't tell if it was her trembling or if the shaking had started in me.In the video, two people in lab coats stepped up to the chair. One pressed a rubber pad against Theodore's
EVANDER'S POVI was studying sector boundaries on a digital pad in my private quarters when the doors banged open.King Madina entered, leaving his royal guard and two senior officers outside.I stood up immediately, knowing any more form of disrespect could make him feral. He walked straight to my desk."Have you completely lost your mind?" the King demanded. "How dare you go against protocol and threaten the Kingdom you're supposed to be protecting! and you think I won't tear that uniform off your back?""I did what was necessary.""You went rogue, Evander!" He slammed his hand against the table. "By every law in Avindel, I should have you thrown into a cell for treason!"I remained silent. The King took a breath. "I'm not arresting you. Not because I approve of what you did, but because you've never disregarded protocol like this before. You had a reason."He faced me. "Tell me what's actually happening. What's the situation with Theodore?" I had to force my face to remain blank a

"The sedative from the port has cleared his system.""Good," the lead doctor replied. "We need his baseline nervous system fully active. Prepare the primary probe."I opened my eyes. "Don't," I rasped. “Don't touch me."Neither of them answered. The woman stepped up to my left, pressing a rubber pad against the side of my neck to keep my head pinned flat."Hold your breath, Prince Theodore," the doctor said flatly. He drove the silver needle straight into the soft skin right below my collarbone.A sharp, searing spike of pain shot through my chest, making my back arch violently off the chair. A choked scream tore out of my throat, but the chest strap slammed me right back down. My breath came in terrified gasps as fire spread down m
