12. The Escape II

I pushed open the door at the end of the hallway and my brain struggled to make the best decision, but Regan was not far from me and so I knew that I couldn’t waste any time.

I didn’t go in direction that we had come in from on the first day because I just knew that it would be locked, instead I went through a smaller passage, trying the first door there and gasping in surprise when it opened to reveal a kitchen.

There was another door at the end of that kitchen and I headed straight for that one, it was locked but the lock was just below the handle and I only had to turn it once for the door to pull open.

The door led to some sort of garden but beyond that I could see the tree line that led into straight into the woods and I moved in that direction as fast as my legs could carry.

In that moment, I couldn’t help but thank Nicole in my mind for the food and water that she had given me, my entire body was screaming in pain but my bones had strength in them.
