Daphne's POV
The cell opened and the two guards came in and began to pull me out of the cell. I allowed them while I silently thanked Roxanne for finally convincing the Alpha to let me out.
We came out of the dungeon and were pushed into a car. Did they use a car to come pick me up from the dungeon? The dungeon wasn't so far from the mansion so why did they have to use a car? Was it because I was carrying the Alpha's heir?
I entered and rested my head with my eyes closed. The car speed through the pack’s land, not heading towards the mansion, something is wrong.
“Where… where are we going?” I asked weakly.
“Shut up. Your chance of asking questions has passed for a long time now!”
I swallowed hard, my heartbeat thudding in my ears, I cannot help but noticed we were passing through the dark forest that led toward the outer edges of the pack's territory.
This wasn’t right. This isn’t right at all.
I instantly got up, fighting the dizziness as a sense of dread settled in my guts. What’s happening?
“Please… what’s going on?” I whispered, my voice cracking.
The guard in the passenger seat turned to glare at me. “I said shut up!”
I pressed my lips together and turned toward the window. Tall trees blurred past, their shadows stretching in the moonlight. The car hit a sharp turn, jolting me forward.
It took another twenty to thirty minutes before we finally stopped. They pulled me out of the car and threw me to the ground. I fell down like a sack of potatoes, so weak and tired. My mouth kissed the ground with the metallic taste of my blood but the first thing my eyes landed on was the shoes, those elegant shoes of Luna Cynthia.
My breath hitched. I tried to get up, my body trembling.
“M-My Luna—”
A sharp kick to my face sent me sprawling backward.
My eyes burned as sand and dirt scraped against them. I gasped, my hand flew straight to my bleeding nose.
“Who is your Luna?” Cynthia sneered. “I am no Luna to a useless omega.”
I trembled, my body screaming in exhaustion. “Please, ma… I didn’t do anything. I am just a lowly omega.”
She squatted and yanked my hair up with her fingers, dragging it so hard I felt my scalp pulling out,
“An Omega that's mated to my man, my husband!” she hissed in anger before pushing my head back, “You're not innocent Omega, Daphne. Like I said earlier, I have heard about you!”
My heart stopped.
How did she know?
“I'm sorry” I cried and hiccuped at the same time, “I didn't mean to be mated to him. I told him to reject me but he refused”
A hot slap landed on my cheek, and I whined falling back on the ground.
“Oh don't worry, he doesn't have to reject you no more. You see, I cannot live to hear that Kian has a living and breathing mate so with the permission of Queen Luna, I can kill you and I will tonight!”
“No!” I lay prostrate on the ground as I cried, “Please, please spare my life. I beg you”
“Don't touch me!” Luna Cynthia yelled, “You made a huge mistake not listening to me. You could have quickly run away, left, and never returned but you decided to not only sleep with my man again but to get pregnant for him!”
I snapped my eyes up to look at the woman who had risen up to her full height. How did she know? My mouth opened to ask,
“How… how…?”
No one knew I was carrying the Alpha’s baby. Not even the doctor. The only person who knew was—
A movement in the shadows caught my eye.
Roxanne stepped forward.
My body went cold.
“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. My voice cracked as I looked at her, begging her to say it wasn’t true. But Roxanne wouldn’t meet my eyes.
“Roxanne? You?” My voice trembled as I pushed myself up to a kneeing position. My whole body shook, not from the pain but from betrayal.
“How?” My breath hitched, “How could you tell? I trusted you. I told you to keep it to yourself… to tell only the Alpha.” Roxanne finally lifted her head, her expression unreadable.
Cynthia smirked, “And not tell me? Not tell her Luna? How could my personal maid keep something so important from her mistress?”
‘Personal Maid?’ My stomach dropped.
Roxanne was her personal maid?
Cynthia chuckled at my shocked expression, “Would you like to tell her, Roxanne? Or should I do the honors?”
Roxanne gave a small bow, “Whichever pleases my lady.”
I flinched at her words. My lady.
That’s when I saw it—the small smile tugging at Roxanne’s lips.
I felt sick.
“What happened to you?” My voice cracked. “You were my best friend. Why?”
Roxanne finally met my gaze, but there was no guilt—just calm acceptance.
“I was tired,” she admitted. “Tired of always defending you, tired of being the only one standing beside a wolf-less omega. No one wanted me. But now? Now, I am respected. I am Luna Cynthia’s personal maid. Do you know what that means?”
My heart clenched.
“How could you throw away our years of friendship for that?” I whispered.
“You wouldn’t understand,” Roxanne said simply and took a step back, distancing herself from me, “I’m sorry.”
“You’re not,” I bit out. My eyes burned with unshed tears, “If you were, you wouldn’t have done this.”
She didn’t respond. She didn’t deny it.
Cynthia sighed dramatically,
“Enough of this touching farewell.” She turned to me, her gaze glinting with cruelty. “Now, about your fate—”
“Please,” I gasped, bowing my head. “The Alpha cannot know about this. If he finds out, he’ll kill me.”
Cynthia smiled. “Oh, darling… you’re dying either way.”
“No!” I sobbed, lowering my body in submission. “I’ll go far. I’ll leave the pack forever. Please—”
A single gunshot rang through the night. I slowly with wide eyes looked down at my stomach that was now clutched by my hands. Hot pain exploded in my stomach, a scream caught in my throat while my breath hitched. My shaky hands pressed against the wound but more blood seeped through my fuingers.
I collapsed to my knees, gasping.
No…
“My baby…”
Before I could fully process the pain, another shot fired. A choked sob escaped me as I hit the cold, hard ground.
Through blurry vision, I saw Luna Cynthia standing over me, the gun in her hand,
"I warned you, Daphne," she hissed. "I make people disappear."
She kicked me but I was too weak to move or whine. The pain was too much, consuming everything that my mind was pulling me toward the abyss.
I heard the sounds of car doors slamming and engines starting before they sped off, leaving me to die.
I lay there, staring up at the night sky, watching the stars blur. My life flashed before my eyes. Every happy memory was with Roxanne. And just like that, they all faded, replaced with nights in Kian’s arms, his touch, his scent.
How did my life get this bad? How did I end up like this?
My eyes slowly began to close when I felt arms lift me up from the cold ground of death. I didn't know If it was the moon goddess finally taking her property that came to earth to do nothing but occupy space, not until I heard a masculine voice filed with urgency,
"Hang on. You'll be alright. I'll make sure of it."
DAPHNE POV"This dreadful headache!" I muttered, using my fingers to massage the side of my head. If only I could just run somewhere with my babies... If only--"Oh, dearest goddess. Why does it have to be now? Why do I have to meet that monster again?" I cried silently. My headache intensified. "I need to have this meeting today," I thought. Peeking at my wristwatch, it was just 1:03 PM. I just wanted to go home and take a nap. To see my babies too.Placing my head on my table, my hand fumbled for the intercom."Pen, get in here for a second." I ground out tightly.Few minutes later, my door opened, and my assistant walked in."Yes, madam? Are you alright?" she asked, her voice raised in panic."Just get me some aspirin and a glass of water," I said, my teeth already chattering."Yes, ma'am." She rushed out of the office and was back almost immediately.Sitting up, I took the extended tablet from her and threw it inside my mouth. Then I took a small sip of water."Ma'am, do you need
KIAN'S POV"Kian! Don't you dare walk out on me." Cynthia screeched as I walked past her into my room. I went straight to my desk and poured out a glass of whisky. I poured it down my throat as I sat. Clenching my fist, I picked the decanter to pour another glass of whisky when the object of my fury stomped in."Why the hell wouldn't she just let me be?" I thought angrily giving her a sly look."And where the fuck was Beta Paul? I just need this bitch out of my room before I kill her.""Kian, why do you hate me so? Uh? Why?" She screamed.I shuddered at the thought of being in the same room with her. "How did I ever think her pretty? This bitch is the ugliest person I've ever seen."I suddenly raised my head as she snatched the glass from my hands."Why won't you answer me?" She queried, her eyes narrowed. My brows furrowed in a frown. I've had enough of this slutty bitch. Slamming my hands on the table in annoyance, I watched as she jerked in surprise at my action. I rose slowly from
Kian's POV It was Daphne. She was the one. I know her. I know my mate when I see her.The rest of the event went in a blur, I didn't know what happened after she left. I froze in the spot when she called some other guy her babe and walked away. Daphne won't do that to me. She will not. I was too stupified to follow. I watched with wide eyes as she left my grip, not caring about the slap. She walked away.It has to be her, Daphne. I hadn't slept the whole night. My eyes continued to stare at the ceiling as the scene replay again and again in my head. How was she alive? Or… isn't she…Can it be— does doppelganger really exist? Someone out there has the same face as my mate, Daphne? How is that possible? Why on earth is the moon goddess playing tricks on me?! “Fuck!” I cussed as my grip on the ray tightened. But I felt her… I felt that it was her. Why did she turn around then? Why did she answer when I called her Daphne? She has to be the one. ***Flashback***“What do you mean
Daphne's POV “Good morning, Ma'am,” “Good morning, Nana Amy. Where are Davina and Davis?” I asked, sitting on the dinning. “The driver has taken them to school,” she replied. A frown formed on my face as I looked up at the wall clock. It was 10 am, I did wake up late. Thanks to the crazy dream last night. It took me a long time before I could sleep off again. It's been years since I had one of these dreams. Seeing Kian in flesh again was what triggered that dream. But more than ever, I needed to speak with father. “Where is Father?” “Did someone call me?” I heard his voice from behind and I rolled my eyes at him. I was still mad at him, if he had not forced me to that event, there wouldn't have been any body seeing anybody. “Morning,” I said grumpily and he sighed, “I'm sorry, dear. George told me what happened.”Of course, George knows. He is father's right hand man, personal assistant, so he knows everything. Everything about Father's life and about mine so he definitely k
DAPHNE'S POVAs soon as I felt the cold air slap my face, I took my hand off Felix's and ran.For how long, I couldn't tell. I fell to the ground, clutching my throat, my eyes wide, my breathing uneven, I couldn't breathe properly anymore. My fingers dug into my throat as I clenched my fist, yet it drew blood. My heart was pounding in my chest as the scene replayed again and again in my head. How his arms wrapped around mine, his breath fanning my skin as he spoke. My skin crawled in irritation, I just wanted to pour a whole bottle of body wash on me and scrub. ‘Monster.’ My mind kept screaming, ‘Monster!’Whenever I close my eyes, I cannot help but see him. He is the only one I could see right now and it irked me. Slowly, my breath began to normalize. I took my hands off my throat. For the second time tonight, I received another shock. I lost it when I felt a hand grabbing me from behind I shrieked."Debby? Debby? Are you alright?" I heard Felix's voice, but my breathing didn't
KIAN'S POV"What is wrong?" Beta Paul asked the moment he noticed I had stopped abruptly. "I think this is a bad Idea, man." I answered, tilting my head a little upward. My ear keep twitching, and my bones cracked. It's been a long time since I had this feeling.Since after the death of Daphne, I hadn't had anything to do with humans or gone out of the Pack even. Paul heard the cracks and saw my nose twitched and immediately moved towards me, "Kian, I think you are about to shift," Paul said in concern, “You can sit this one out if you wish to” I shook my head, “No, I just perceive something is about to happen.""How so?" Paul asked, concern etched around the corners of his face, "I shouldn't have persuaded you to come. I could have handled this alone." He muttered, guilt oozing from him. And I let out a small laugh. "It's fine. I need to be here. I can't keep pushing you into doing Alpha's duty both in and outside the pack." I said, looking back at him with gratitude.Beta Paul
DAPHNE POVI sighted Felix standing by his latest model of his Mercedes-Benz. Felix loves cars. It's no wonder why this car screams power. I watched him as we made our way towards his car. Felix looked very handsome in his black tuxedo and his low-cut dyed hair. I watched his green eyes twitch at the sides immediately as he saw me nearing his car with Davis and Davina.Enjoying how his gaze quickly scanned my strapless white dress, I watched his eyes stay on my exposed neckline for a moment while it moved to longingly caress the top of my cleft and my slender neck, I called, "Felix?"Jolted from his reverie, he walked towards me. Stretching my hand towards him, Felix placed a gentle kiss at the tip of my fingers."Why, you look absolutely gorgeous, Debby!" He exclaimed. Then, he turned to greet George, who was walking stealthily behind us. I watched him struggle to say a word. When he couldn't, he just gave up. I smiled quietly. Knowing George, he doesn't care about propriety. He has
DAPHNE POV Still skeptical about attending the BusinessKulture Event, I couldn't avoid it this time.Yes, I and my father are at it again!"Father, can you reconsider? I'm still not ready." I grumbled impatiently."Debby, you have to be ready one day, and it might as well start from today." My father said."It mustn't be today, father! I still have a whole lot of time to attend and be the face of Gen-Luxury... Please, just use a representative as you've always done." I retorted.I saw Davina and Davis feel restless as a result of the tension in my room, so they quitely backed out of the room. I know I already informed them they couldn't go with me since it's an event for adults. However, I couldn't help feeling sad that they looked downcasted."Okay, okay, fine! I'm going because I already promised Felix." Throwing my hands up, worn out and exasperated, I gave in.Of course, I knew I couldn't win once my father's mind was already made up on a matter. I still thought to try anyways...
Daphne's POV “You can't just adjourn my meeting? It's important.” I complained. This time I was already on my feet. Father cannot do this. “I need to speak to my daughter so the meeting is adjourned until next time.” He turned to Linda and said, “You, fix another day for the meeting” Linda bowed and began to search her tablet, but I stood still upset, “You cannot just adjourn meetings like this. We are discussing the annual events of the company.” “That's good,” he smiled before reaching for a seat. George pulled it out for him and he sat. By now, the meeting hall was empty, I just didn't know what to say to the man in front of me. If what he wishes to speak to me about isn't important, I swear I'll—“So… how was your date?” He asked, wiggling his brows in a playful manner. ‘Oh no, he didn't’ I mentally facepalmed when I realized this was all for the stupid blind date. A date I was so stressed about that made me wake up so late today. “You stopped my meeting to ask how the dat
