Chapter 6

Penulis: Moonlit Crescent
The smug look on Daryl’s face made Jennie’s eyes sting.

She stormed up to him and slapped him hard across the face.

“You’re despicable. You actually used my family to threaten me!”

Daryl froze.

Anger surged in his chest, but he had finally forced her to come see him. He swallowed it back and said with forced patience, “You’ve made your scene, and you’ve hit me. Feel better now? It’s time to come home.”

Jennie spoke slowly, emphasizing every word.

“I already told you. I want a divorce.”

Daryl’s expression darkened.

“You’re taking this too far. I’ll admit I was wrong about what happened that day, which is why I’ve put up with your tantrum this long. But there’s a limit. Keep pushing, and you’ll only make people sick of you.”

Jennie almost laughed.

“Should I thank you for being so generous and choosing not to hold it against me?”

Daryl seemed oblivious to her sarcasm.

“Glad you understand. Pack your things and come home. The moment you do, I’ll restore Fisher Corporation’s partnerships with Chandler Corporation. I’ll also have the bank approve the loan immediately.”

Jennie clenched her fists.

It took every ounce of self-control not to punch him in the face.

Daryl curled his lips into a smile and reached up to stroke her cheek. His tone was half coaxing, half threatening.

“You know what I’m capable of. Be good. Don’t make me angry. Come home with me.”

Jennie glared at him.

He was threatening her.

If she dared defy him, he would destroy the Chandler family.

And she knew he would do it.

Daryl had always been ruthless and uncompromising with everyone except Zara. Once he made a decision, no one could change his mind.

He didn’t love Jennie, so naturally, he had no reason to show her mercy.

Ethan finally realized something was wrong. He pulled Jennie toward him and looked straight into her eyes.

“Jennie, tell me the truth. Has he been hurting you? If he has, come home with me. I don’t care if Chandler Corporation goes bankrupt or if our family loses everything we’ve built here. I won’t let anyone treat you like this.”

Jennie’s chest tightened until it hurt.

Her throat closed, and tears flooded her eyes.

Only one thought filled her mind.

She couldn’t let her father and brother pay for her failed marriage.

She had been the one who insisted on marrying Daryl.

Even if that decision had left her torn apart, it was her own fault.

Her family had nothing to do with it.

“Ethan, I’m fine. We just had a small disagreement.”

Her father and brother had always doted on her.

The more they loved her, the less she could allow herself to drag them down with her.

Ethan didn’t believe her.

“Don’t lie to me. You loved him so much. Something serious must’ve happened for you to decide on divorce. Chandler Corporation may not be as powerful as Fisher Corporation, but if he dares hurt you, I’ll fight him even if it destroys me.”

Jennie couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.

She threw herself into Ethan’s arms.

“Ethan, nothing happened. I promise. Daryl and I will talk it out. This is between the two of us. Let us handle it ourselves.”

Ethan held her tightly, his heart aching.

“Are you telling me the truth?”

Jennie nodded.

“Yes. You know I never lie.”

Only then did Ethan relax slightly.

After seeing her brother out, Jennie turned back to Daryl, determined to settle things once and for all.

“Daryl, why won’t you agree to the divorce? Once we’re divorced, you’ll finally be free to be with Zara openly.”

Daryl parted his lips, but before he could answer, his assistant, Tyler Grant, walked in.

“Mr. Fisher, your grandfather just called. He wants you and Mrs. Fisher at the family estate immediately.”

Daryl frowned.

“Did he say why?”

Tyler answered honestly, “He asked about the divorce. I assume that’s what this is about.”

Daryl waved him off.

“Understood.”

Tyler left the office.

Jennie clenched her fists nervously. Within seconds, her palms were slick with sweat.

The Fisher estate was her nightmare.

The Fishers looked down on her background. They believed neither her family nor her appearance made her worthy of Daryl.

Every time she went there, they picked at her, humiliated her, and made her life miserable.

But she couldn’t refuse to go.

By the time she and Daryl reached the estate, a suffocating pressure settled over her before she had even stepped inside.

Jennie instinctively wanted to turn and run.

But the family butler had already approached.

He stared at her with cold, lifeless eyes and said stiffly, “Mrs. Fisher, your grandfather-in-law and Mr. and Mrs. Fisher are waiting inside.”

Jennie’s heart dropped.

Everyone was here.

Were they planning a full interrogation?

Resigned, she followed the butler through the landscaped garden and into the main sitting room.

Daryl’s grandfather, Patrick Fisher, sat at the head of the room.

Daryl’s father, Kenneth Fisher, sat beside him, while his mother, Elaine Fisher, sat next to Kenneth.

Zara sat on the other side of the old man.

The moment Jennie saw her, everything became clear.

So Zara was behind this too.

Jennie had wondered how news of the divorce had reached the family estate after only one night.

Over the years, Zara’s constant meddling had only made the Fishers dislike Jennie more and more.

Zara immediately put on an apologetic expression.

“Jennie, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to tell Grandpa and the others that you wanted to divorce Daryl. Mrs. Fisher suddenly asked why Daryl was going after Chandler Corporation, and I accidentally let it slip.”

Jennie stared at her.

Daryl’s eyes flashed with displeasure, but before he could speak, Zara rushed to explain.

“Daryl, I’m sorry. You know I speak without thinking and can’t keep anything to myself. Your mom’s so sharp that she got the truth out of me in no time.”

Whatever Daryl had been about to say died on his lips.

“It’s fine. You didn’t do it on purpose.”

Jennie gave him a mocking smile.

Then she walked calmly toward Zara.

“Jennie, I’m really sorry. I...”

Zara’s voice was full of guilt and self-blame, but the look she gave Jennie was openly provocative.

Before she could finish, Jennie picked up the steaming cup of tea from the table and threw it in her face.

“Ah!”

The scalding tea instantly turned Zara’s skin bright red.

She screamed and jumped back in pain.

Daryl and his grandfather roared at the same time.

“Jennie Chandler, what are you doing?”

Jennie’s face remained blank.

“Are you blind? You saw exactly what I did.”

Both men froze.

They stared at her in disbelief, unable to believe that the woman who had always kept her head down and obeyed them would speak so sharply.

Daryl’s expression turned ugly.

“Do you even know what you’re saying?”

Jennie didn’t care.

“Since Zara can’t control that filthy mouth of hers, I thought I’d teach her a lesson.”

“Jennie Chandler, you bitch! How dare you throw hot water at me?”

Right now, he’s away with one of his professors at another university for an academic presentation.”Jennie’s brows twitched.“Are you sure you didn’t get the wrong person?”Chloe nodded emphatically.“I asked very clearly. Jumping forward meant plunging into an abyss.Stepping back meant walking straight into another nightmare. And the worst part was that Jennie still couldn’t tell them the truth.People were selfish.Patrick might be able to tolerate Daryl cheating on her, but there was no way he would accept Jennie becoming pregnant by another man while she was still married. If the truth came out, the Chandler family could be dragged into disaster because of her.Patrick’s presence was intimidating, but Ethan refused to back down.He lifted his chin and met the older man’s gaze head-on.“Mr. Fisher Sr., are you planning to use the Fisher family’s power to force her into this?”Patrick smiled faintly.“If that’s how you want to see it, then yes.”Ethan forced himself to remain calm.“The Chandler family may not be as powerful as the Fishers, but we’re in the right.”His voice was firm.“We’re not afraid of you.”Patrick casually brushed an invisible speck of dust from his clothes.“Is t

Jennie stared at Patrick sitting on the couch, then at the mountain of gifts he had brought with him.For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.“Grandpa, what is all this?”Patrick gestured toward the gifts.“I know about everything Daryl has done.”His expression was sincere.“The Fisher family has treated you unfairly these past few months. Consider this our compensation.”He began listing them one by one.“A private villa worth nearly forty million dollars, five percent of Fisher Corporation’s shares, and more jewelry and designer bags than I can count.”Jennie stared at him.Linda, George, and Ethan were equally speechless as they looked at Patrick’s idea of an apology.Daryl stood and walked over to Jennie. He took her hand.“Jennie, Grandpa also said that after the baby is born, he’ll give the child another ten percent of Fisher Corporation.”His voice filled with urgency.“That means fifteen percent in total.”Jennie nearly dropped her jaw.Fifteen percent of F

The last messages in Jennie’s chat with Lucas were still the ones she had sent him days ago.‘I’m not asking you to take responsibility. This baby is mine, and I can raise it myself. Why aren’t you in your room?”“I went back to the Chandler house.”Daryl’s brows knitted tightly together.“Why did you go back there?”Jennie let out a cold laugh.“What was I supposed to do? Stay at the hospital and wait to die?”Her tone sharpened.“Daryl, do you really think Zara is going to stop after one failed attempt? She’ll find another way to hurt me.”“I’m not staying in that hospital like a sitting duck.”Daryl froze.“No. She won’t. Jennie’s baby was conceived out of our love.”Zara’s heart plummeted. She stared at him in disbelief, then wrenched her wrist free and shoved him hard.“Then what the hell am I to you?”Daryl looked at her with a complicated expression.“I thought we both understood
