Raelynn

A week later.

"What the hell," Brandon stutters, his face going pale.

Yara stares at me in shock, her hand pressed against her mouth. Isabella just watches me with that blank expression she's perfected over the years, impossible to read.

I've finally done it. Told them everything. Well, not everything—they don't need to know about Bridget's psychotic tendencies or my biological father's equally disturbing nature. But I've told them about Sarah Morrison, about what happened three years ago, about Charlie.

They keep staring at me in silence, and for a moment, I wonder if I've made a terrible mistake. I know I can trust Yara—she's been my rock since I arrived at KAQ. Brandon would do anything for Gray, which means he'd help me too. But Isabella... I wasn't sure about her until Gray vouched for her completely, swearing she could be trusted.

I fidget with my hands, the silence stretching too long. Just as I'm about to laugh it off and say it's just a dark joke, Yara stands up from

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   Hello Temptation.

Raelynn"We're here, ma'am."I look up from my phone to find Jaxton—Gray's secretary—smiling at me through the rearview mirror. We're parked in front of a modern house, all clean lines and floor-to-ceiling windows, tucked away in one of those neighborhoods where even the trees look expensive."Thanks, Jax," I say, reaching for the door handle."You're welcome!" His smile is so bright it's almost blinding. Like I've just made his entire day by existing.I pause, frowning. "Is there... something on my face?""What? No! No, you look great!" He practically bounces in his seat. "It's just—you're the first woman, besides Ms. Isabella, who's ever come to Mr. Blackwell's house. Like, ever. He doesn't let anyone inside. Not clients, not business partners, not even most of his friends. Just Ms. Isabella, Mr. Brandon, and Mr. Isaac. He's very particular about his space. Very 'this is mine, don't touch, don't breathe near it, get out'—you know?"Heat creeps up my neck. "Oh. I didn't—I mean, it's

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   Terms and Conditions

Raelynn"You want to work under Grayson?"Edward's voice is smooth, measured. Too measured. Like he's already calculating a dozen different angles before I've even finished explaining myself.I square my shoulders, keeping my spine straight and my expression neutral despite the fact that every instinct is screaming at me to throw something at his smug face. The crystal paperweight on his desk would do nicely. Heavy enough to make an impact. But I can't. I need this."Yes," I say, keeping my voice level. Professional. "I'm considering the opportunity."Edward leans back in his leather chair—the kind that probably costs more than my car—and studies me. His office is exactly what you'd expect from a man like him: dark wood, expensive art, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city like he owns it.Maybe he does."Why?" he asks simply.I was prepared for this question. Gray and I spent two hours going over exactly what I'd say, how I'd phrase things, what angles Edward might probe."Wh

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   Every Sixty Seconds.

Grayson Edward killed Charlie. The thought keeps circling through my mind like a vulture, refusing to settle, refusing to make sense. I'm sitting at my desk, tapping my pen against the mahogany surface in a rhythm that's probably driving my assistant crazy through the door. Tap. Tap. Tap. Edward killed Charlie. But why? How are they even connected beyond the obvious? We have receipts—evidence of Edward paying for things related to Charlie. Money transfers, payments to third parties, a paper trail that links them together. But we still don't know *why*. Why would Edward help Charlie in the first place? What did he gain from orchestrating Rae's nightmare? Unless... Unless Charlie knew something. Something Edward couldn't risk getting out. And now Charlie's conveniently dead in a cell that's supposed to be monitored 24/7. I set down the pen and pull open my bottom drawer. The flash drive sits there, small and innocuous. Black plastic and metal, no bigger than my thumb. Pablo a

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   The Suicide That Wasn't.

RaelynnI'm running. My feet pound against the pavement, my heart racing so fast I can feel it in my throat. People blur past me—morning commuters with their coffee cups and briefcases—but I barely see them.Charlie's dead.Charlie committed suicide. That's what Gray said when he called me at 6 AM, his voice tight with something I couldn't identify. Anger? Concern? Fear?"Rae, you need to get to the station. Now. It's about Charlie."I didn't ask questions. Just threw on the first clothes I could find—jeans, a t-shirt, my detective badge—and ran.The precinct is three blocks from my apartment. I could have driven. Should have driven. But my hands were shaking too badly to hold the steering wheel, and running gave me something to focus on besides the thoughts spiraling through my head.Charlie's dead. Charlie's dead. Charlie's dead.I turn the corner too fast, my foot catching on uneven pavement. I stumble, arms windmilling, about to go down hard—Strong hands catch me, steadying me."

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   Six Years Too Late.

GraysonRaelynn pulls away like I've burned her, and disappointment settles heavy in my chest."I'm sorry," she says immediately, hugging herself, creating more distance. "I shouldn't have—we shouldn't have—""No." I shake my head, taking a step closer. "Don't apologize. This isn't your fault."She steps back. That single movement—that instinctive retreat—hits me harder than any punch Brandon's ever landed. This is my fault. All of it. The distance between us, the uncertainty in her eyes, the way she flinches away when I get too close.Six years ago, I pushed her away. Told myself it was to protect her. And now she can't even stand to be near me.I hate this. Hate what I've done. Hate that things are this way because of my choices."I shouldn't have rushed you," I say quietly, forcing myself to stay still even though every instinct is screaming at me to close the distance again. "I'm sorry, Rae. That was—I moved too fast. I just—""I need to go home." Her voice is small, shaky. She wo

  • On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair   I Miss You, I'm Sorry.

RaelynnThe dance floor is packed with couples swaying to the music, but I'm hyperaware of only one person.Gray.His hand is on my waist—firm, possessive, burning through the fabric of my dress like a brand. His other hand holds mine, our fingers intertwined in a way that feels both familiar and completely foreign.I'm not sure what to do. My feet are moving on instinct, following his lead, but my mind is spinning. When was the last time I danced with anyone? When was the last time I let someone hold me like this?I step wrong, stumbling slightly."It's okay," Gray says immediately, his grip on my waist tightening to steady me. "Just follow my lead. I've got you.""I don't—" I start, feeling heat creep up my neck. "I'm not good at this.""You're doing fine." His voice is low, meant only for me despite the crowd around us. "Just relax, Sunshine."Before I can respond, he spins me.I gasp as the world blurs for a second, and then my back collides with his chest. His arm wraps around my
