OPHELIA

Ronan had been strangely quiet and cold since the previous day.

Even now as the car rolled over in front of the Whitmore mansion, his eyes remained fixed on the grand entrance as if preparing himself for something. I didn’t know what happened but I was certain it was something serious.

The brightly lit mansion towered above us, windows glowing against the dark evening sky.

“We’re here, sir, ma’am,” the driver informed before he climbed out of the car to open our doors.

RONANThe more I stared at her, the more the scene flashed into my head. He’d fucking kissed her. She’d stood there, without a single fucking word!I tightened my fist, motivating more blood to spill to the floor. God, I could still feel the surge of anger in me. He’d fucking touched her. I should’ve killed him.My fingers shot forward to grab my chin, my thumb running roughly over her bottom lips as if to wipe the trace. She pressed her back against the wall. “Tell me, did you enjoy him kissing you?”“Ronan.”“Hypocrite,” I muttered bitterly. “You said you’re done with him. Did you fucking like it when that bastard kissed…”I didn’t have the chance to finish as her palm collided against my cheek, sending my head sideways. She gasped. My jaw ticked and I let out a chuckle. I returned my eyes. “You insulted me. Besides, what does it have to do with you?”“I’m protecting you.”“I’m an adult. I can kiss whoever I want. Our relationship is simply an arrangement. You signed that we can

OPHELIAJulius gripped my arm and pressed me against the wall. “This is your fault Ophelia,” he bit out.I grunted and pushed him off me, managing to get out of his hold. “It’s your fault that our family has become this way. We can’t even have a peaceful dinner anymore.”“There was never a peaceful dinner in the Whitmore house.”He stepped closer to me and grabbed my arms again. “What did you tell Alia? Why did she refuse to go home with me? You’ve poisoned her mind against me.”I matched his ferocious look with mine. A few servants hurried past us but none of them stopped even for a second. “Julius. Alia is a child but she’s not stupid. You didn’t call her, you didn’t come to visit her. You think she wouldn’t notice that you’ve been neglecting her?”“She’s a child. Children don't understand these things.”A chuckle escaped my lips. He must be joking. Did he see children as dumb?“They do. And even though I told her you’ve been away for a business trip, she knows that you’re neglec

OPHELIA When my eyes fell on Older Mr Whitmore beside her, I couldn’t help but straighten. The man had always been intimidating. Kate had her hands around his arm as he limped into the dining hall, his eyes moving past me to the man beside me. Ronan stiffened. For a moment, their gazes clashed before the tension loosened when Kate’s voice rang out again. “Why are you here?” She shot her question to me, her eyes flickering to Alia for a second. Only for a second. “I invited her.” She turned to her husband who had just taken his seat at the head of the table. “Wasn’t this supposed to be a family dinner? She is no longer part of the Whitmore family. Julius divorced her.” “Wrong,” for the first time since we arrived, Ronan spoke. “She divorced him.” “Still. Since she’s no longer his wife, she shouldn’t be…” “She’s about to become my wife.” Kate’s lips twitched in anger. She averted her attention to Ronan. “As long as she’s not your wife yet, she’s not family.” I felt the loss w

He angled his head so he looked at me. “Do not eat anything. Did you hear me?”“Yes. Noted.”Then he stepped out of the car. Lifting Alia into my arms, I climbed down the car and we began to make our way to the grand entrance where a few servants stood awaiting us.Alia wrapped her hands around my neck and looked around the large building, her neck turning every second to scrutinize the bui

RONAN“It’s Alia’s. She likes strawberries… wait… how did you know I’m allergic to strawberries?”I said nothing. I only stared at the plate of strawberries behind her and carried it away to the bedside table. She rose from the bed and turned to me.“You even knew my favorite color too.” She placed a hand on her waist.“This is basic knowledge about you.”“That is so not true. And my favorite ice cream flavor too.”“Very basic, Ophelia.” With my hands crossed behind my back, I began to head toward the door. I heard her disbelieving grunt behind as she sat on the bed again.“Liar.”I opened the door and took a step out but before I closed it behind me, I whispered.“I know more about you than you think, Ophelia.”Getting into my room, I instantly threw my clothes to the floor and lay on the bed, my eyes glued to the ceiling above. I was right. I knew way more about her than she thought. And now that I thought about it, I wondered why. [FLASHBACK]4 YEARS AGO.“Julius, did you get the

OPHELIA“You drew this in a few hours? Oh my goodness.” I asked in awe for the second time as I stared at the painting in Alia’s hands. She lifted it so I could see it clearly, a proud grin settling on her face. She peered at me with her wide eyes as she waited for my response. My eyes roamed over the painting. She’d drawn something that looked like a car and then there was a doll inside it. Although the car she'd drawn looked incomplete and childish, it was the best I’d seen. I dramatically closed a hand over my mouth as I took the painting from her with my other hand.“How beautiful. You’re so talented, my child,” I praised. “Really?”“It’s so pretty. Now, I’m considering sending you directly to an art school instead of a kindergarten.”“Is that bad?”I crouched downward a bit and lightly flicked her forehead. “I was just joking. Don’t start getting ideas. Would you like to attend art classes when you’re a little bit older?”She nodded. “Then it’s done. This is so pretty.”I ent
