Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Millicent

Linus looked at the lying men he had just killed. He got a cigarette and lit it then walked away as if nothing had happened. The news that there is an inexplicable creature is spreading all over the city. His doings can’t be seen on CCTV where he’s killing men and women like a malign. Many are screaming and afraid. Almost no one comes out every night because of that news. Linus is only seen by people if he himself has the intention of showing up and he can also make the people he meets lose their memories, so he will never be imprisoned or involved in any crime that the world of humans has.

Linus hasn't seen any angels since he made a contract with the demon that approached him. Since then, his heart has been filled with anger, especially toward Lord Rasmus. He has also removed from his mind the angels he gave importance to including his best friend Jacob. He had no hope of reaching out to his friend, especially since he had already done such horrible things... and he felt no remorse.

"Well done, Linus. I'm happy with what you're doing. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be rewarded too----"

"Reward? Do you think I really enjoy what I do?" Linus caught sight of Zeus, a disciple of the devil, who gave him a contract to give him power in the human world.

"What more do you want? I gave you the strength and power to do your job even better. Get angry and kill. That's all you have to do. Why aren't you happy? Haven't I given you enough?" asked Zeus.

"I am not happy."

A brief statement he said. Short but heavy. Ever since he fought Lord Rasmus, he wasn't happy no matter how many people he killed. He didn't know if it was a punishment for him too because he couldn't feel anything else. Anger... he is only filled with anger when he sees greedy and rude people. After that, he absent-mindedly left as if nothing had happened. He wondered if he should just kill himself to end it all but he knew he would be punished more severely in hell.

Afraid? He didn't know if he was afraid, maybe the feeling of fear of hell was coming from another part of his heart that was eager to return as an angel.

He went back to his house... an abandoned building and slept there. He never returned to the house that Lord Rasmus gave him because he was not a hypocrite. Or maybe for respect? Ha! He laughs in the face of respect!

The next day, he went to the coffee shop he frequently visits. As always happened to him, he was always looked at by girls as well as boys but he didn't care about that.

"I wanted to kill them... take their guts and sell them to the rich. If I can really cut their heads off... I will!"

Linus frowned at what he heard. He looked at the woman sitting behind him and saw that she was casually drinking coffee like him. The woman was familiar, he had seen her before, and just like before... the woman was just saying her grievances in her mind. The casual look is the opposite of what her brain screams.

"Why are you looking? Do you have a problem with me?" Linus didn't realize that she had caught him so he just smiled.

"Nothing. I just thought you had a big problem in life." Linus said and continued drinking coffee.

"Tsk. Such a nuisance." the woman said sparingly and got up to leave.

Linus just grinned for an unknown reason and he realized that immediately, why did he grin suddenly? Is he really interested in this woman?

He just walked again lifeless. He will do the same old routine. He just kept walking when he saw some people who suddenly opened an umbrella. Suddenly, it rained heavily. He ignored the cold water that poured over his body. He had a familiar feeling. That was his feeling when he committed a heinous murder and Lord Rasmus appeared in front of him. He understood since then how people live. It was tiring, nauseous, and full of headaches and he just wanted to die. He does nothing else and his heart is not satisfied no matter what he does.

"Is this really my karma?" Linus asked and yawned then felt the force of the raindrops on his face.

At that moment, an unexpected image flashed through his mind. There was a girl. She was tall, slender, pretty... He doesn't remember her name but he remembers clearly what her smile was like. When she saw him, her eyes were large. A clear indication of interest. Her cheeks were red like someone has bitten into apples. Her hair was curled nicely. It's difficult to explain how he fell for that face. He fell... he really fell into her. He's still an angel before securing the future of the girl that became his mission. Who is she? He clearly forgot about her. He saved her back then.

Linus felt a pang in his chest. His head felt like breaking a lot after trying to remember her.

He just smiled sadly, "This is really my karma." Then took a deep breath and turned his back to continue on his way.

The rain stopped shortly after that. His feet and legs were soaked but then after a long walk, he saw a familiar figure. What a miserable human… he whispered to himself. He saw the woman from the coffee shop, soaked like him, and staring at nowhere. Linus thought that it looked like the woman had suffered nothing but hardship. That's why he thought that he should just kill her.

But.... something else seemed to come out of his mouth.

"I can help you."

The woman lost her anxiety and looked at Linus. "I've always seen you. Are you planning something bad for me? If you want to kill me, do it. I've wanted to die for a long time but someone prevented that from happening. It seems that God is cruel to me because He lets me get into worse and more trouble. Just kill me."

Linus brows creased. His head only hurt more because of what the woman said. Some memory seemed to flash in his mind that he couldn't explain.

"I will help you kill them all if that's what you want. Do you despise your workmates? I can torture them to avenge you." Linus said firmly and he saw the woman stand up.

"How did you know that I hate my workmates? Are you my stalker? I don't even know you and now you approached me as if you know what's going on with me at my workplace? You're weird." said the woman and walked away.

Linus's legs were restless. He followed the woman secretly until she reached an apartment. The woman lives in a typical apartment, with nothing special about the environment. He thought of following the woman to her workplace to see what was making her angry.

And the day has come when he will observe it. The woman doesn't see him because he has the power to show if he wants to.

He thought at first, he would see the woman being that strict and not being swayed by her officemates. He also thought he would see her fighting like he always thought she wanted to take revenge on her co-workers. But the more he watched the woman, the more disgusted he became. He found out that the woman was not doing anything when her coworkers ordered her several times. In short, she is a pushover. She just keeps all her resentment to herself and doesn't fight back. Linus laughed, a weak woman like her. He thought at first that he would just kill the woman because of her thoughts, but it would be more interesting if he could take part in her life. He should kill her co-workers first... before the woman. A good plan.

That's what he did all day, looking after the woman until she got home. Linus didn't realize that his observation of what the woman was doing would push him to continue his surveillance until it reached a week. That became his hobby besides killing other people he met. He had almost memorized the woman's entire personality. She cries after coming home from work and then screams to herself about her frustrations with her co-workers. Linus wondered why it didn't occur to her to commit suicide to end the suffering she was suffering.

Whoever is the angel watching over the woman, it seems that it will be difficult because of the negative energy of the woman and what she is experiencing.

"What are you doing here?" The woman's eyes widened when she saw Linus because he was in front of her and entered their company!

"I told you that I would help you get revenge on your officemates. That's why I'm here." Linus answered sparingly, making the woman roll her eyes.

"I don't know if I should believe you because what you’re doing is suspicious to me. You suddenly say that you will help me. How can you do it? Besides, how did you get in here? This is an exclusive building." the woman said so he just laughed.

"Watch me."

The woman's eyebrows crossed and watched as Linus left her. The woman just walked back to the office and sat in her cubicle. In less than a few minutes, she saw that her supervisor was carrying many documents. She closed her eyes because she knew that he was going to order something for her again. It is the supervisor's job that he is being asked to do, she should not agree to his orders but there is nothing she can do. It's hard to find a new job especially since she didn't finish school. She was just lucky that she was hired by the company she works for now because she agreed to be a pushover. But.... before the supervisor could get close, he suddenly stumbled in front of her. Just then a co-officemate was also approaching her, who always ordered her to buy food at the cafeteria, and the coffee she was holding spilled at their supervisor.

"Aw! What do you think you're doing?" his supervisor Lawrence said annoyed with her co-worker Rozven.

"Sorry, sir! I didn't mean it! I'm really sorry!" Rozven apologized and was about to help the supervisor stand up but the man carelessly removed her hand. He stood alone and left immediately to maybe change clothes.

She didn't think that her supervisor as well as her co-worker might experience something bad today.

"AAAAAH!" She was surprised when another of her co-workers suddenly shouted, who always complained about why she didn't revise the document she ordered her to do that wasn't her job either.

"Oh, why? What's wrong, babe?" asked her boyfriend who was just next to the cubicle.

"Someone sent pictures to the General Manager of me at the bar! I don't know but I sent them to him myself even though I didn't do it! I'm going to get fired!"

"At the bar? When did you go there, babe? You're not saying anything--- what pictures are those?" Her other coworkers immediately went to her cubicle.

She just shrugged because of what she heard. It seems to be observed today as well. She was looking at her coworkers when something caught her eye. A man she saw earlier. She was immediately stunned and wondered why these things suddenly happened to her co-workers. Is it him....?

It's impossible, he can't do those things... unless he has hidden powers. Powers? She only remembered one incident that was unbelievable. That was her salvation as a child. She wanted to kill herself but someone came to her rescue and she didn't know what. It was a sign for her to continue in a life that she should not have believed because she continued to suffer. But what is going on that she doesn't understand?

Hours passed without anyone noticing her and she completed her work without her co-workers telling her to do anything else. She didn't do any work that she wasn't asked to do. A surprising day. Her life was quiet and she was never disturbed nor annoyed even once. She was the lucky one today. She walked out of the company and it didn't seem like it had rained. The sun was shining even though it was already five o'clock in the afternoon. It was the exact time of her off-work time and not the typical overtime with multiple others from her co-officemates. She was just walking home to her apartment to save money so she started walking home.

While walking... she feels someone following her. The road to her apartment is not really crowded so sometimes, she was afraid that someone might try to take her life. She sped up walking until she felt someone hug her and she was surprised when a man in black was flied on the wall forcefully in front of her. The man in black lost consciousness while the one hugging her looked at her.

"He's been following you for a while. He wants to rob you." said the man and she was surprised that this was probably the man who had also entered their company. "Do you believe me now? I will help you take revenge and protect you from all those who try to do you harm."

"What in exchange?" she immediately asked.

"Your life."

She immediately extended her hand. "I'm Millicent Gunn. Take my life, but... I want you to take their life first."
