.Killian

"So she's the one that saved you, huh?" Dylan asks me, referring to my mate, as he takes a swig out of the vodka bottle, before settling back on top of my executive wooden desk. "The whole pack members are still puzzled that you didn't pass on any judgment but dismissed everyone and took the girl away."

"That's none of my business, though. If it weren't for her, I probably would have been dead by now. I owe her one." Dylan is already aware that I got attacked by a strange wolf. I want to tell him Peyton is my mate, but I decided against it. "And I was overwhelmed with pity for her when she told me her story," I explain then curl my fingers into fists.

At this point, I don't even know if I did the right thing or not, by taking her in. But she's my mate, the urge to protect her is great.

It isn't safe for her to live all alone as a rogue, it'd attract the attention of mostly vampires.

"You did the right thing, Killian," Dylan tells me

Currently, we're in my office, we came here immediately after dropping Peyton at my house.

Just because I wanted to be away from her due to the fact that the need to be close to her was overwhelming.

I haven't felt this way before. Never wanted to be close to someone as much as I do now. And my wolf isn't helping matters at all. He wants me to be with Peyton.

I blow out a low breath as I push the thoughts of my mate to the back of my mind. Glad she's yet to know I am her mate or else things would've been worse for me. Because I am not ready to get mated to anyone. I don't think I ever will.

Tugging off my tie, I lean back into my chair to give my back some rest.

"I figured the wolf with metallic claws and canines takes an antidote. Several wolves from the neighboring town have talked about seeing him roaming around at night." Dylan informs me.

And before I can make any statement, the door suddenly bursts open and two men make their way in.

"A wolf was caught killing and eating humans in Norwood entertainment park." Cole, the assistant of Dylan, informs us with his gaze serious. Then he shifts his gaze to the West who's at his side. "Evidence." He says, and West slips out pictures from his bag, before coming to dump them on top of the files on my desk.

"Fuck," Dylan curses after starting into the pictures.

And this triggers me to take hold of the pictures.

I raise them but make sure they're a foot away from my face before I look at them one by one.

The afflicted wolf is a middle-aged man with a shock of brown beards. There's this look on his face that gives out how he derives a great deal of pleasure in killing and eating humans.

I swallow hard when I see mutilated body parts and blood everywhere. Even though the pictures are black and white, they're terrible to look at.

"He must've been a newly bitten vampire who got compelled by the vampires because of his lack of control over his wolf." West provides when I slap the pictures back to my desk. "Or maybe he just chose to be a flesh-eating monster."

"We need to have a meeting with the Omega wolves, they're the ones who fall victim to these vampires' compulsion because of their vulnerability," Dylan suggests.

And this immediately reminds me of Peyton, my mate. She talked about being an Omega in her pack before she ran away.

She's so fragile and I doubt she'd be able to fight or protect herself from harm because she hasn't gained total control over her wolf yet.

"Alpha Killian is the wealthiest in town, running several billion-dollar businesses is stirring up hate and envy in the hearts of the vampires because we the wolves are doing better than them who've lived hundreds of years before us. So they use every opportunity they have to turn our wolves against us and make them wreak havoc." Cole exhales, then attempts to grab the pictures off my desk when Dylan suddenly stops him.

"There's no point keeping them." He says, then slips out a lighter from his pants pocket, before setting the pictures on fire.

We all watch as the pictures burn and turn into flames over the floor before Cole calls in a janitor to come to clean the place.

"When was the afflicted wolf caught?" I ask, raising my chin up and staring at them thoughtfully. There are most times when they purposely block their minds so I wouldn't link mine with them, to know their thoughts.

"Just this morning," West replies. He's too scared of me to even take a seat in my office. Although there's something that feels odd about him, something I am yet to figure out. "If it wasn't for the pack members who caught and restrained him, he'd have eaten yet another human."

"Has he been killed yet?" I tick my jaw.

And West nods.

"We separated his limbs from his body before beheading him."

Cole attempts to bring out more photos when Dylan immediately stops him.

"And the mutilated body?" I lean forward to face them.

"Burnt to ashes." Cole and West chorus.

"Good." I nod, satisfied with what they did because I'd have been furious if they didn't kill him but came to me for confirmation.

There's silence, and the only sound that can be heard is the clicking of glass and bottle which indicates that Dylan is pouring himself some Vodka.

My mind slips off to Peyton for the uptenth time, and I gulp then rise to my feet because I am uncomfortable as hell.

Maybe I did the right thing by bringing her in because I am supposed to keep her far away from me as possible.

Being a cold ruthless Alpha, I don't see the need to be tied to anyone since I myself haven't experienced love.

For the second time today, the door of my office bursts open without being knocked, and my assistant secretary makes her way in, fuming and panting.

"Mr. Fernsby?" The habitually calm and cool-headed Sarah calls my name through the violent rise and fall of her shoulders like several balloons being repeatedly poked with a microneedle. "I told her you're busy, and not in the position to see anyone now. But she refused to listen to me."

All the three men in my office shift their gazes to the girl.

"What do you mean, Sarah?" I ask from where I am standing because I don't fully understand what she means at this point.

Can it be that Peyton made her way in here? There are twenty-seven floors with various departments, how did she know my office is on the eighteen floor?

"She pushed me out of the way and made her way here all by herself," Sarah says, still breathing heavily like she just did a marathon.

And I am still wondering who she's talking about.

Dylan immediately snaps his head back to look at me. He looks as if he wants to say something but choose to remain silent.

Clearly, we are having the same thoughts.

A part of me desperately wants to see the face of Peyton, even though I don't want to be close to her. And that part of me is my wayward wolf.

The person makes her way in.

And it's no other person than Elizabeth Elijah. Gamma Elijah's daughter. The one whose parents want me to make my Luna.
