MasukChapter 5
Alice
Six years have passed since I fled the country, desperate to escape the overwhelming guilt and shame of what had happened between me and my stepson that fateful night.
And in those six years, I’ve sure as hell outgrown the frightened little girl anyone could walk over at any given time.
I had long forgiven myself for that one mistake I once thought I could never get past. That one sinful night with George had produced a little kid… a very sweet one at that.
He was smart, always curious, and far too attractive for his own good. And every time I looked at him, I was reminded of that one mistake I had buried deep… the one I tried so hard to forget.
But above everything else, I had rebuilt my life. I had crawled my way out of my misery, building a luxury wellness and skincare empire, Aurora Luxe… which was now valued at over half a billion dollars.
Sometimes, I still couldn’t believe how far I had come, in just a short period. Now, I didn't have to live off anyone’s help and get humiliated in return. Leo and I had everything we ever wanted, with just a snap of the finger.
And now, Aurora Luxe has just signed a massive distribution and investment deal with Apex Capital, the most powerful private equity firm in the country. And that only meant I was to travel back to the same city I swore never to return to.
I didn’t know who the Apex Capital CEO was. I only knew that he was a legendary investor and business magnate with a reputation recognized by many across the continent.
I had heard so much about him, and I was eager to finally meet the formidable man who would be overseeing this partnership with me.
I walked into the imposing Apex building, Leo’s small hand tucked in mine. We took the elevator to the 32nd floor, my heart beating louder with every floor we passed.
At the reception, we waited patiently until the receptionist looked up, offering a polite smile.
“Mr Brooks is ready for you now, ma'am. Come with me.”
My breath caught, my mind replaying her words endlessly.
Mr Brooks?
Could it really be… him?
No. Of course not. The Apex Capital was a newly launched empire, owned by a man who had kept his identity a secret from the start.
It couldn't be Thomas, neither could it be George. Maybe I was just overthinking it. Maybe it was just a coincidence that the CEO shared the same name as them.
I followed the receptionist down the long corridor, Leo trailing closely behind me. When we reached the end of the corridor, she stopped and pointed to the sturdy brown door before us.
“That's the door, Miss Alice.” She said softly. “Kindly knock before you enter. Mr Brooks doesn't appreciate people barging in.”
She gave me a warm, understanding smile before turning back to the reception.
My heart pounded in my chest as I lifted my hand towards the door, knocking gently.
“Come in.” A sharp voice answered from within.
At first, it sounded somewhat familiar, but I pushed the thought aside, tightening my grip on the doorknob and pushing the door open. I walked in, and Leo followed quietly behind me.
The man sat behind a large desk, his eyes glued to his laptop. He seemed to be unaware of our presence, until I stopped right in front of him.
“I… I'm sorry about that, Miss…” He said, lifting his head, but then froze the moment our eyes met.
“Alice?”
He echoed the name like it was poison on his lips, his eyes pinning me in place.
My mind swirled with thoughts, my head throbbing at the striking resemblance he had with Leo. He looked… familiar too. But despite how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to remember where I had met him.
God, was I hallucinating?
Before I could process the thoughts, Leo ran forward and wrapped his hands tightly around him.
“Daddy!”
Chapter 6George The moment I saw her, standing right there in front of me, my mind went completely blank. For a minute, I thought my eyes were deceiving me.I had searched for her everywhere for six whole years after that ugly incident, but I had absolutely no luck finding her. And now, just when I thought I would never see her again, she resurfaces, standing right before me, still as beautiful and elegant as ever. The sight of her alone made my heart race. I locked my gaze on her, my eyes lost in her soulful eyes, when the little boy ran forward and wrapped his hands around me.My hands caught him instinctively, and the minute my gaze fell to his face, my breath stopped. No way!He looked exactly like me. A perfect reflection of my younger self. I glanced up at Alice who was still frozen where she stood, then back at the boy. I still couldn't believe my eyes.Could it be…“What's going on here?” Alice's voice echoed, snapping me out of my messed up thoughts. She hurried forward a

Chapter 4Alice ‘George, get your ass to the house. Now!’ The text message read, and I could literally feel the anger burning from each word. His lips stopped midway on my neck, and I could already feel him hard against my thigh. I stopped and flashed a glance at him, noticing the scowl on his face. “Aren't you going to answer that?” I whispered, my voice already shredded. He looked straight into my eyes, his gaze dark and wild. “Fuck him.” He growled, tossing the phone out of the bed with one soft push. “The only thing I'm answering tonight is you.”His lips claimed mine once again, his strong hands pinning my wrists to the mattress… rendering me completely helpless beneath him.His palms slid down to cup my breasts, his thumbs circling my hardening nipples with deliberate, teasing strokes until a raw, helpless moan tore from my lips and melted into the kiss.A wave of heat rushed through me, and I wrapped my hands around the sheets as I felt myself getting drenched just from th
Chapter 3AliceHe signed the papers without protest. Then he threw them back at me, his eyes burning with rage. “You'll regret this Alice. You're nothing without me!”“We'll see to that.” I said quietly, shooting them one final glance before making my way out.Samantha's voice echoed behind me as I left… thick with mockery. “Goodbye, Alice. Don’t come crawling back when your pathetic little savings begin to fail you!”Her words stirred something inside me, but I didn't look back. I had long made up my mind to leave for good… I couldn't stop now.I booked a cab quickly as soon as I stepped out of the room.As the car took off, I made a promise to myself never to return to Thomas's house. I was never going to spend one more night there… and that begins tonight. When the car pulled up at the hotel I had planned to spend the night in, I stepped out and walked straight into the building. The place was grand and quiet… the exact kind of serenity I needed at this moment. The receptionist g
Chapter 2Alice I fixed my gaze on him, my mind racing as I waited for his words.“During the surgery, we found something… unusual.” He lowered his voice. “The rupture wasn’t natural. Someone introduced a clotting agent into your IV line a few days ago. It was a massive dose which was meant to trigger exactly this.”A cold chill ran through my veins, my mind struggling to comprehend his words.“So, what are you trying to say?”“I’m saying that,” he whispered, glancing at the door. “... someone paid me a quarter million dollars to make sure none of you left this hospital alive… neither you nor the baby. I refused the second half of the money, and that’s why I’m telling you… because I want to save your life.”He slipped a small flash drive into my palm and closed my fingers over it. “This contains the security footage, alongside names and bank transfers, revealing how the whole operation went down. Use it wisely, Mrs. Brooks.” He turned to leave, then paused midway through. “One mor
Chapter 1Alice “Marry Thomas Brooks… and every cent of your brother’s hospital bills will be sorted.” The words slammed into me like ice water.Marry Thomas Brooks? The cold-hearted billionaire with a reputation so dark everyone feared him?My knees buckled as I heard the faint beep of the machine in Brandy's ward. Aunt Sam stood across from me, her arms crossed, her red lips curled like this was nothing more than a business deal. Before I could process the words, her cold voice echoed through the hallway once again.“So, what’s your decision, Alice? Are you willing to do it… or would you rather watch your brother die that way?” Her words hit me like thunder, leaving me no space to think. I dropped hard to the cold floor, my fingers clawing at her feet. “Please aunty, anything but this. He’s old, he's ruthless. I can't…” She kicked my hands away before I could finish. “Then be ready to kiss Brandy goodbye.” She said and turned to the door, her heels clicking on the marble flo
