Chapter 770

Author: Lean
Snow was falling over Norchester again that morning.

Diana stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of her hotel room, watching sanitation workers below shovel the accumulated snow toward the curbs and expose the gray-blue asphalt beneath.

Her phone buzzed twice on the nightstand. She crossed the room and picked it up. It was a message from Raymond.

Raymond: [Diana, did you sign the contract?]

She typed back: [Not yet. Going this morning.]

Raymond replied almost instantly.

Raymond: [Thanks for

Tiffany looked at Raymond but did not respond right away. She understood what his words meant, and she knew that, with the Hutton family's influence, stepping into a matter like this in Jouleston would not have been difficult. What she could not understand was why he had bothered to do it at all."Raymond." She spoke his name softly."Mm?""You didn't used to be like this."The remark caught Raymond slightly off guard.Tiffany met his gaze and spoke in a level tone. "The old Raymond never explained himself to anyone, and he never used to... quietly take care of things behind the scenes, then refuse to admit it."Raymond did not respond immediately. He stayed silent for a few seconds before asking, "So what was I like before?""Before, you couldn't wait for the whole world to know every good thing you'd done." Tiffany held his gaze without blinking. "Whatever you did, you made sure everyone knew it was you. You were terrified they might forget to be grateful."A trace of old fa

By the time Raymond reached the backyard, Tiffany was already crouched beside Yoyo, reaching out to pet him as he lay sprawled on the ground with his tongue hanging out.Yoyo's tail wagged furiously as he repeatedly nudged his head against her palm.Raymond raised an eyebrow. "He's pretty attached to you."Tiffany didn't turn around. She simply kept stroking Yoyo's head and replied lightly, "Yes. He's a lot easier to get along with than certain people. At least, you never have to guess what's going on in his head."The remark was clearly aimed at someone, but Raymond refused to take the bait. He walked over at an unhurried pace and stopped beside her, his gaze settling on the delicate lines of her profile.Yoyo suddenly got to his feet, circled Raymond twice, and brushed his tail against the cuffs of Raymond's trousers as though checking his scent. Then he turned and settled back down beside Tiffany.Tiffany raised an eyebrow. "He's pretty attached to you too.""Of course he is.

Florence spotted Sydney coming downstairs and immediately waved her over. "Sydney, come look at this. James picked it out himself for the baby."Smiling, Sydney walked over and examined it carefully before nodding in approval."It's really nice." She looked at him as she spoke. "Thank you, James." "What are you thanking him for? Buying clothes for the baby is the least he can do." Florence said it as though it were obvious, then caught herself and quickly added, "Besides, it would hardly be fair to the brotherly way you treat him."James sighed, looked at Sydney, and laughed despite himself. "These days my mom only has eyes for you. Ray and I don't even rank anymore.""When did you ever rank?" Raymond shot back lazily. He picked up a glass of water, walked over to Tiffany, and held it out. "Drink some water."Tiffany glanced at him and accepted it. Their fingertips brushed at the rim of the cup, and they both pulled away at once.Watching from the side, Sydney felt the corners

Raymond let out a soft "Oh" and asked nothing more. The group went inside, where Agatha had already instructed the staff to set out tea, pastries, and fresh fruit, filling the parlor with warmth.Florence and Agatha sat together discussing Sydney's upcoming delivery, covering everything from the hospital arrangements and postpartum nanny to her recovery. They left no detail overlooked.Raymond sat nearby and chimed in from time to time until Florence shot back, "What would you know? You've never given birth."He wisely fell silent after that, though his gaze kept drifting toward the staircase.Sydney noticed but said nothing. She took a sip of water and spoke as though the thought had just occurred to her. "Tiffany said she'd come down later to check whether the crib I bought was assembled correctly. She's more meticulous about those things than I am."Raymond picked up his cup and took a sip, his tone casual. "I'll give her a hand, then.""You?" James shot him a sidelong glance

On the way to the airport, Diana looked at Hugo's message, and a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes.Nina glanced back from the passenger seat. "Ms. Hutton, is that from Hugo?""Yes. He fired that secretary." Diana's tone remained even, giving nothing away.Nina chose her words carefully. "Ms. Hutton, don't you think Hugo listens to you more than anyone else?"Less than half an hour had passed since they left the Jillson Group. To an outsider, the decision might have seemed swift and ruthless, but that was not what caught Nina's attention.Diana barely gave it any thought. "Hasn't he always been like that?"Nina remembered how the Kingston family had found Hugo difficult to manage when he was younger. Unwilling to discipline him too harshly, they often asked Diana to keep him in line.Back then, Hugo had still been in school. No matter how much he resisted, a few words from Diana were enough to make him fall silently into line. But how old had he been back then? Now, who didn

Summer's grip tightened around the insulated pot, her knuckles turning white.Hugo looked away from her, picked up the landline on his desk, and dialed the HR extension. "Process Wanda Green's termination. As soon as possible." His voice remained calm, but it carried an authority that left no room for argument. The person on the other end hesitated for a moment before quickly agreeing. After hanging up, Hugo turned his gaze back to Summer. She went rigid. She had never expected Hugo to fire the woman outright after hearing only a few words."Hugo, you... You've got it wrong. Your secretary has nothing to do with me. I really did just happen to run into Miss Hutton..."Hugo listened with complete indifference, as though the matter had nothing to do with him. "If you have nothing to do with each other, then firing her has even less to do with you."His response left Summer speechless. She stood frozen, unable to move forward or retreat, her face alternating between flushed red a
