It was Saturday and as usual, Ana was home. Normally, she would have been spending the day with Jack, but she decided she was going to talk to Landon today. She had neglected him too much.
They had planned to meet at a small restaurant or cafe for lunch, but Ana was extremely tired so she sent him a text telling him to come to her place instead.
Today was the day. It was the very first ultrasound Jack and Ana were going to together. And it was special.Ana had woken up pretty early even though the ultrasound was at 9:30 am. By 6, she was up and restless. Also, this baby hadn't let her sleep. It was like s/he sensed the importance of this day and was being all fidgety.
"So you mean to tell me she came over here and threatened you?" Landon asked and Ana nodded sullenly. She was in a dark mood. She had wanted this day to be a good one, just her and her best friend. But it looked like something always got in the way of the time they were supposed to spend together."I- she had those pictures Landon. The ones Farouk had taken before." Ana sniffled. She had tried so hard to forget that moment of her life. And Helen bringing it up was taking her back to a dark and dreary place.
Ana looked at both men with confusion on her face. How did they know each other? And why were both of them looking so tense?"Uhm, you know each other already?" Ana asked a bit redundantly."No"
"Did you tell him yet?" was the first question Landon asked when he got into Ana's apartment the next day.The smile that had been on Ana's face disappeared and she frowned in confusion. "Tell who what?" she asked.
Jack stared at the woman sitting across from him. Helen Knight. His mother. She didn't know why he had asked her out for dinner.
"You found this?" Landon asked, as if to be sure."Yes," Ana nodded. She rubbed her arms and looked around at her apart
"Is everything okay?" Jack asked when he put his seatbelt on. He and Ana had gotten into his car and she had been unusually quiet.
Ana woke up with a languorous stretch. After the previous night, she felt deliciously refreshed and active. She knew instinctively that Jack wasn't in bed. And when she looked over to his side, she confirmed it.
