Chapter 9: Not Becoming the Second Pigeon King

Author: Tuobayanqing
At 10:20, Nelson FitzGerald's car pulled up at the entrance of the Four Seasons Peninsula. He sent a message to Gabrielle McCarthy.

Within a second, Gabrielle McCarthy replied: "Drive straight for 300 meters and then turn right for another 300 meters. I'm having breakfast at a noodle shop."

She had been sleeping in the hotel for the past two days, eating only one meal a day, all ordered from room service, until she woke up this morning and went out to find a place for breakfast.

Today, Nelson FitzGerald drove himself, still in that luxurious Rolls-Royce. Following her directions, he soon spotted the woman sitting by the window of the small shop, eating noodles. He parked the car on the side of the road but didn't get out.

Gabrielle McCarthy saw his car and waved at him, continuing to eat her favorite handmade noodles at a leisurely pace.

After finishing a large bowl of noodles, she still felt hungry, so she bought some cake and milk from a nearby store, and got into his car just in time.

Nelson FitzGerald was dressed in a very proper and elegant suit today, as usual, with no expression on his face. He glanced at her casual attire and the breakfast she held in both hands, "You can finish your breakfast first before we leave."

"Okay."

This time, she ate quickly, finishing the cake and milk. She got out of the car, threw away the trash, and returned.

As soon as she got back in the car, she asked, "How far is it?"

"Half an hour."

"Oh, then I'll take a nap," Gabrielle McCarthy said, reclining her seat and resting lazily.

Nelson FitzGerald turned his head to look at her, "Haven't you slept enough?"

"I've been sleeping for two whole days without going out. I've slept enough, it's just the jet lag that's making me a bit uncomfortable."

Nelson FitzGerald started the car and chatted casually, "Have you always lived abroad?"

"Mm-hmm," Gabrielle McCarthy responded with a nasal sound.

Nelson FitzGerald didn't ask further, "Rest now. I'll wake you up when we get there."

Gabrielle McCarthy closed her eyes and rested peacefully, not at all worried about him.

After waking up yesterday, she had checked on Nelson FitzGerald and confirmed that he was the financial tycoon of Y City, taking over the top-ranked commercial giant, J Group, at the age of less than thirty.

He was the eldest grandson of Horace FitzGerald and his original wife, Laura FitzGerald. His parents had died in a car accident when he was young, and he was raised and educated by his grandmother, Laura FitzGerald. After growing up, he entered the company to assist his grandmother in managing it, and now, with Laura FitzGerald largely retired, the J Group was handed over to him.

The exact wealth of the J Group was incalculable, but Gabrielle McCarthy guessed it was in the tens of billions.

His reputation was that of a handsome, wealthy, and scandal-free man, almost the perfect husband in every woman's eyes, and no woman had caught his eye yet.

After confirming his identity, Gabrielle McCarthy regretted not asking for a higher fee when she treated his grandfather.

Exactly half an hour later, the car stopped. Gabrielle McCarthy, who had been dozing with her eyes half-closed, opened them and sat up straight. She glanced at the grand European-style mansion outside, raising an eyebrow slightly, "Looks like I can make a good profit today."

"As long as you can cure him, the reward will be substantial."

A low, hoarse voice reached her ears, and Gabrielle McCarthy's drowsy mind instantly cleared. Her eyes narrowed, and she slowly turned to look at him.

Her subtle movements were all captured in Nelson FitzGerald's deep, dark eyes. A hint of satisfaction flashed through his eyes, but his face remained expressionless. His voice returned to normal, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

Gabrielle McCarthy replied lightly, but her heart was in turmoil. The guess from two days ago resurfaced in her mind.

The injured man... Nelson FitzGerald?

The change in her expression and emotions was minimal, almost imperceptible, but Nelson FitzGerald, with his keen eye, caught the slight change, and a barely visible smile appeared on his lips.

Seeing someone coming to open the door, Gabrielle McCarthy suppressed her thoughts, picked up her medical bag, and got out of the car first, "Let's go see the patient."

Nelson FitzGerald watched her get out of the car, admiring her graceful and beautiful figure. The smile on his lips widened, and his deep, inky eyes swirled with unending mystery.

The Tong family, involved in military, politics, and business, was one of the three major families in Y City. Although their wealth was not as great as the J Group, their power and status were even more significant.

Duncan Henley, the youngest grandson of the Tong family and the most beloved by the elder, had been severely injured in a car accident. Upon learning that the disciple of the legendary doctor Bevis Jeremiah was coming to see him, the elder personally canceled an important meeting to welcome her, showing Gabrielle McCarthy due respect.

Of course, Gabrielle McCarthy knew that she was receiving such treatment because of Nelson FitzGerald.

After settling in the living room, they introduced themselves. The elder took the initiative to speak, "Miss Feng, my grandson Yulin's condition is quite serious. The accident happened in the suburbs, and the delay in bringing him back for emergency treatment nearly cost him his life. The doctors did their best to save him, but whether he can regain consciousness depends on his own luck. The hospital has done all it can."

"First, let me see his recent test results," Gabrielle McCarthy said, not immediately checking his condition.

"Alright, please wait a moment," the elder nodded and instructed his daughter-in-law, "Ayuan, bring all the hospital reports here."

"Yes, sir."

Tong Kexi, Duncan Henley's father, was also present, sitting next to the elder. He was a military man, exuding a stern and serious demeanor. He greeted her with a formal tone, "Miss Feng, please have some tea."

"Thank you."

The elder, who had seen many people, observed her from the moment she entered. He noticed that she remained calm and composed, neither nervous nor fidgety, and her behavior was elegant and appropriate. He had a good first impression of her.

After she tasted the tea, he smiled and chatted with her, "Miss Feng, I met your master, Doctor Bevis Jeremiah, about seven or eight years ago. You two seem to have different personalities."

Gabrielle McCarthy chuckled, "I was raised by him. When I was young, he influenced me, but I realized it in time and straightened myself out. Luckily, I didn't become a second pigeon king."

"Haha..." The elder laughed heartily, "Your master may have a unique personality, but his medical skills are truly remarkable, especially his silver needle technique, which is breathtaking."

Two days ago, Nelson FitzGerald had called him and described how Gabrielle McCarthy used the needles. At that time, he confirmed that she must have learned the true techniques from Bevis Jeremiah, so he received her with great respect today.

"Mr. Henley, you flatter me," Gabrielle McCarthy said modestly.

Soon, Mrs. Tong brought a bag of test results, introducing them politely, "Miss Feng, all the test results are here, including pre- and post-surgery. I have arranged them separately."

"Good, let me take a look."

When it came to work, Gabrielle McCarthy put aside her casual demeanor and focused intently on each report, paying extra attention to the brain scans.

After nearly twenty minutes, she spoke, "If you had contacted my master immediately after the surgery, he would probably be up and running by now."
