Third-party POV.

I glanced at the phone for the hundredth time, tapping my fingers on my desk. It had been hours, and there was no sign from her - no call, no text, nothing.

What was taking so long? I have spent a sleepless night waiting for a message, and for what? My phone's screen was black as death and equally deadly silent. What the hell was she doing?

I hit my desk with a fury. It was a reasonably simple task. I checked the phone, hoping that there would be anything I had accidentally missed, but the screen was empty.

‘ Enough!’ I thought to myself, dialling the number.

“ Hello,” I heard on the other side of the line.

“ Hello,” I replied coldly, " Am I not interrupting you? Have you been busy with something?"

“ Oh, hi. I was just going to call you after the shower.”

“ Did you?” Now, my tone was cold as ice. I had no time for stupid games and even less time for silly excuses.

“ Yes, I just wanted to refresh myself after the night.” Her voice sounded weak, and I rolled my eyes. I couldn't care less about how she felt. Not at the moment like this.

“ My night was rough, too. Do you want to know why?” I paused, giving her time to understand I was not in the mood.

“ Why?” Her voice trembled. Finally, the reaction I was hoping for.

“ Because I have waited for a message from you. We had a deal. Did you forget about it already?”

There was silence on the other side, and I could tell something was wrong. “ I hope everything went smoothly?” I asked, hoping it was just my imagination.

“ Yes, yes,” she mumbled, which only added to my doubts. This woman was dumb as a rock but perfect for a dirty job.

“ So where are they?” I asked slowly.

“ Where is what?”

Was she serious right now? My jaw clenched, and I was on the edge of yelling. I inhaled deeply, trying to compose myself.

“ Photos, where are the photos? Without them, I can't do anything,” I spoke through my gritted teeth. Seriously, she could not be this dumb.

“ I do not have them,” she admitted after another pause, and I pressed my palm on my temple.

“ What do you mean you don't have them? Are you trying to set me up?” My voice was dangerously calm. Did she change her mind? Maybe trusting her was a bad idea, after all.

“ No, I swear. I did everything you asked me to do. You know I would never do anything against you. You mean too much to me.” Her voice broke, but I could not make myself feel pity for her. She had one task: to get solid proof and the photos.

“ I have my doubts. Without that, our future would not look that bright. I thought I could trust you. I thought we had the same goal,” I lowered my voice, giving her time to think.

“ We have, we have. You have to believe me. I am begging you,” she tried to plead, and I enjoyed it.

“ What about the guy? Maybe he managed to get them?” I have decided to help her a little.

“ He did everything according to the plan. But when I went to check on him, he was not there. But maybe he changed the place for some reason. I will get in touch with him right now.” I heard the hope in her voice. I was sure she would keep her word.

“ You better do it. This plan means a lot to me. It should mean a lot to you, too. That is our ticket to a better future.” I reminded her about what we had planned together. That should be enough motivation.

“ He is a good friend and would not fail me; he never did. I am sure he will deliver the photos anytime now.”

I listened to those reassurances, bored to death. I didn't care who this guy was; I paid to get everything done and expected results.

“ Well, don’t waste more time, and get those photos. You wasted your chance, Nicole. Do not waste another.” I said coldly. This conversation was tiring, especially since it did not go as I wanted. I hung up abruptly, not caring for what she was saying. Even if that offended her, Nicole could not be mad at me for too long. She was like a loyal puppy. Especially since she believed I had feelings for her. That let me use her in any way I wished. My position and money worked like a charm. She would do anything I asked her for without a second thought. Nicole was a good servant when the job had to be done and a good fu*k when I needed release. If she only wasn't so stupid.

I leaned back in my chair, closing my eyes.

I had plans no one knew about, definitely not Nicole. She lived in her dream, and I let her believe that dream would come true.

But it was not my dream. My dream was way more significant. I worked on it for years and finally had all the pieces in place. There was only one obstruction I had to get rid of, but it was only a matter of time. Even if plan A did not work, I had plan B. I always had plan B.

A sudden knocking at the door brought me back to reality.

“ Come in,” I ordered in a stern tone.

“ Your guest is here,” I heard the voice coming from the door but did not even bother to look in the direction.

“ Then what are you waiting for? Let her in.”

When the door closed, I opened my eyes and fixed my suit, smiling. Finally, this day was getting better.

A moment later, the door opened again.

“ Come in, baby,” I said, standing up.

She smiled at me, swinging her hips as she came closer.

My plan B arrived.

Margot’s POV Nathan's visit left me completely dumbfounded. I could not understand the reason for this performance. This man had more faces than I thought. Maybe I did not know him after all? Well, it was not important right now. I had another day ahead of me, and I had to focus on it. Nathan's behaviour could not affect my work. No life turbulence could. I fixed my clothes, brushed my hair and put a professional smile on my face before leaving my apartment. Nathan could shove his attitude up his a*s. When I arrived at the office, the atmosphere felt tense. Everyone is glancing at me, not discreet enough, obviously. Well, I should have seen that coming. I made their boss mad, even if not intentionally. I was the villain in this story. If they were hoping to see me embarrassed, I was going to disappoint them. I held my head high, walking through the corridor. I let my shoulders drop only when the door to my office closed behind me. That went well. Sooner or later, the

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter forty six

Nathan's POV My hands gripped the steering wheel so tight that my knuckles turned white. My chest hurt, my heart was beating so fast I could swear people outside could hear it. I was breathing heavily. A panic attack was right around the corner. Vincent found Margot; he was right here, next to her house. How was it even possible? How could he connect her with me so quickly? She was my business partner, but I worked with thousands of people, and yet he turned her attention right to her. He somehow found out she meant more to me than others. I was sure I kept our public appearance strictly professional. " For fu*k sake! " I almost yelled, hitting the steering wheel with my hand. I made sure that Isa was far away from here. I made her safety my priority. Vincent hurt her once, and I was not going to let it happen again. It took her years before she learned how to lie without looking behind her shoulder. I could not let my brother shatter this fragile sense of safety again,

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter forty five

Margot's POVI slammed the door to my office with such force that the glass shuddered. I pressed my back against it, trying to calm my breathing. Tears I had held back finally found their way out, slowly rolling down my cheeks, leaving a salty trail. My whole body shivered from emotions I could not exactly pinpoint. What the hell happened just a few minutes ago? An image of Nathan's face, twisted with rage, flashed in my mind, making me wrap my arms around me in a pitiful attempt at comfort. I dragged myself to my desk and sat down before my knees would give up. I looked at my hands, shaking without my control. What happened to Nathan? I knew he seemed stressed for the last couple of days, but this outburst was nothing like him. Not towards me, at least so far. My brain went into a mode where I started analysing what I could have done to make him react that way. The more I thought, the angrier I got. I did not deserve this. Nathan was a grown-ass man, and if there was an issue, h

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter forty four

Nathan's POV " Fu*k!" I cursed, slamming my hand over the top of my desk. What the hell was wrong with me? Margot ran away from my office, almost in tears, after I yelled at her for nothing. I could not take my anger out on the only person who was innocent in this whole mess. I fixed my clothes and rushed to the door, but Lucy grabbed my arm, stopping me.Great, now she would scold me for being a complete prick. " Not now, I have to do something," I said before she could say anything, ready to yank my hand from her grip. I knew I messed it up; she did not have to tell me this again. " Let her be," Lucy replied instead, taking me by surprise. " Are you crazy? I should not have to shout at her. Margot has nothing to do with that!" My voice was dangerously high. " She will be fine. You have a lot on your plate right now. One day she will understand." Lucy placed her hand on my shoulder. " Do not worry; when she understands, she won't be able to stay mad." " Do you think she will un

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter forty three

Margot's POVI let out a deep breath and leaned back in my chair. My eyes hurt, and I was sleep-deprived, but all the pieces were finally falling into place. All my projects were secured, and they belonged to me and me only. No one could claim any of my work again. It felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders; I could breathe freely. And all of that was possible thanks to Nathan's effort. He showed me light where I could only see the darkness. He showed me kindness, while I showed him the lack of trust. And wanted nothing in exchange. Not to mention how he made me feel in bed. Involuntarily, a moan escaped my lips, making me giggle. Was my life finally finding its path- the right one this time? I could not deny that Nathan slowly became an important part of my life. Not because he made me his business partner, but because I generally enjoyed his presence, even if I tried not to admit it out loud. Maybe because I was still too scared to let those feelings bloom. Scar afte

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter forty-two.

Nathan's POV I was still inwardly gloating when Lucy entered my office without knocking. One look at her pinched face told me there was some bad news waiting for me. Previous happiness instantly faded as I looked at my best friend shifting from foot to foot, like a student who was caught smoking behind the school's gym. " Okay, you have my full attention. What is going on?" I asked, sitting behind my desk. Lucy bit her lip and lowered her head. An unpleasant feeling nested in my chest. She had never had an issue with delivering bad news. This was freaking me out. " Say something. What happened?" Lucy finally raised her head, and I noticed ho pale her skin was. She seemed terrified. " For fu*k sake, speak! I do not like this suspense." My voice rose dangerously. "There was a call... from the hospital," she finally said, hesitantly. " When you were gone."" Hospital?" I have asked, trying to process her words. " Did something happen to my parents?" Panic made my heart race. What

Nathan's POV I could not believe Margot agreed to my offer without a fight. Of course, she had her conditions, but they were entirely acceptable and understandable. I would act exactly the same in her situation. ' Now, it is time to celebrate,' I thought, fixing my tie and making faces in the
