The gift bag containing a custom engraved gold watch felt heavier than it should as it sat on Jayden's hand for hours.
Reluctantly, he checked the time again, 6:47 p.m. Work hours were long gone. The city outside the glass walls of his office was already slipping into night, lights blinking on one after another like impatient stars. His computer screen dimmed, reminding him he had been staring without seeing for too long. He unlocked his phone again, no missed calls nor a single message from him. A faint smile tugged at his lips. “He's probably buried in work again.” he murmured. That was always the excuse and he always accepted it. Still, he slid the gift into his bag carefully, as if it might break if he wasn’t gentle, grabbing his coat and switching off the lights, he headed to the garage. — The lobby of Dortmund's company was too quiet for a building that usually breathed noise and movement. The receptionist glanced up, surprised. “Sir….” “It's fine,” he said softly, already walking towards the elevators. “I won't be long.” The doors closed with a muted ding, carrying him up straight into hope he hadn't allowed himself to feel all day. The office door wasn’t fully closed, light spilled out, sharp and white. Jayden stepped in quietly. Behind the desk sat his boyfriend, Drake, his jacket off, sleeves rolled up and tie loosened. Files were already everywhere, stacked, scattered, some were open and some marked with red ink. Drake's head was bowed, fingers pressed to his temple like he was holding himself together by force. “Hey,” Jayden called gently. But silence met his voice. He took another step closer. “You look exhausted.” “What brings you here?” Drake asked, flatly. Jayden stiffened for half a second, then smiled, adjusting the strap of his bag. “I was nearby. I thought I should come say hello.” Silence stretched for a second. “A call would have done that.” Drake replied. “I wanted to surprise you.” Jayden teased. Drake finally looked up, his eyes, dark and tired didn't soften the way they used to. “Oh.” he mouthed. “Just oh.” Jayden murmured, his chest tightening. “I’ll go then,” he added, aloud this time. “I just wanted to see you. And now that I have done that, I better not disturb your work.” He turned quickly, approaching the door. The chair creaked as Drake leaned back slightly. “Wait.” Hope flared again, Jayden's heart racing. Before another word could be said, the office door opened wider. “Sir, about tonight’s event….” The assistant stopped short when he saw Jayden, then nodded politely. “Sorry sir. I didn’t realize you had company.” Drake sighed, irritation flashing across his face. “What now?” “The clients insist on a host. They’re already at the hotel. If you don’t show up, it’ll look bad.” he sprouted, head lowered. “A party?” His voice sharpened. “Again?” “This one matters,” he said carefully. “for the company's reputation.” Silence stretched. Jayden watched the tension tighten Drake’s shoulders, the way his jaw clenched, how his fingers drummed against the desk like he wanted to snap something in half. “I can’t,” Drake muttered. “I’m not in the mood.” Jayden swallowed. “I can go.” Both of them glanced sharply at him. “I mean,” he added quickly, “you can just show your face for a few minutes. Then leave, I’ll stay and handle the rest.” The assistant’s eyes lit up with relief. “That would actually…..” “No.” Drake said it immediately. “You look stressed already,” Jayden pointed out. “A little rest won't hurt.” Drake hesitated but then nodded, reluctantly. “Fine. Just be careful out there.” Jayden's smile came too easily. “Sure.” — The hotel ballroom glowed gold and glass. Music hummed low, expensive and smooth. Men in tailored suits laughed too loudly, women clung to arms that weren’t theirs, crystal glasses clinking like promises no one intended to keep. Drake stayed exactly three minutes, long enough to shake hands, long enough to smile for cameras and leave the impression he had been there. Then he leaned into Jayden's ear, voice low. “I’ll call you later.” He walked out before Jayden could even answer. Standing still, Jayden watched him walk away. Hours passed in a blur, the crowd thinned, laughter dulled and the music slowed. He sat at the edge of the table, untouched appetizers cooling beside him, his phone face up in his palm. Each vibration that wasn’t a call tightened his chest a little more. He drained the third glass, the burn sliding down his throat like fire, vision tilting with the dizziness. Suddenly, his phone rang, making him flinch. His eyes glinted when he saw the caller. “Hello,” he beamed. “Happy anniversary, Jay.” Drake cooed from the other end. Jayden's breath caught. “You….” He laughed softly, disbelief mixing with relief. “You didn’t forget?” “How could I forget something like that?” Drake's voice softened. “I’m sorry it’s late.” “It’s okay,” he said immediately. “I understand.” “Come meet me,” the voice continued. “Suite 3113.” “But the party is….” “Don't keep your boyfriend waiting.” Drake whispered. Jayden's heart jumped. “I'm on my way, love.” He stood so fast the chair scraped loudly behind him. Maybe he misunderstood and misjudged him, the boyfriend he knew and loves could never have forgotten about today. The hallway was quiet, carpet thick beneath his unsteady steps. Jayden counted the doors, mind flitting between numbers, the hallway stretching longer with each step. 3… 1… 1… 3? His fingers pressed the knob, heart racing. Without waiting to confirm, he pushed the door open. A man stood by the window, broad shoulders outlined in the dim light. The suite smelled faintly of thick smoke, a hint of vanilla and something darker like cologne that clung to skin. The city lights shimmered across the window, a soft hum from traffic below. Jayden’s heart thundered in his ear, hope flaring and without thinking, he crossed the room, arms reaching out. “Sorry love,” Jayden whispered, voice thick with emotion. “I doubted you.” The figure stiffened, muscles tensing. Jayden pressed closer, tilting his head and their lips met, urgent and desperate. The man pushed him off quickly. “I already apologized for doubting you,” Jayden said, voice hoarse. “Don't push me away.” Before the man could reply, Jayden kissed him again. A dark smirk curved the man’s lips as he pressed Jayden to the wall, his breath hot against his ear. “Don’t ask me to stop,” he whispered. Slowly, his lips traced from Jayden’s ear to his own, each second stretching, making Jayden arch helplessly. When their lips met again, Jayden’s stomach twisted, a thrill and dread colliding as his lips were devoured hungrily.Ronan didn't wait for Matthew to release the videos before he slid out of the office and returned to his penthouse. The sun was already setting, painting the penthouse orange when he drove. He packed the car neatly before stepping into the house. But the moment he walked in, the strong scent of burnt mashed meatloaf with potatoes hit his nostrils. His gaze shifted towards the kitchen and before he knew it, he had already run towards the kitchen. With a sharp push, the kitchen door burst open and then smoke welcomed him first. His heart skipped a beat as he peered through the thick smoke. “Jay… Jayden,”Within seconds, he found the gas tap and turned it off, quickly quenching the fire from the pot. He had barely turned it off, reducing the thick smoke when Jayden appeared by the door with a tablet in his hand.“Ronan, you are—” the remaining words got stuck in his mouth as he saw the thick smoke. He had just barely gone upstairs to get his tablet to learn how to prepare the mashed mea
Jayden's eyes fluttered open slowly, he had barely had time to adjust to the brightness of the room when a sharp pain dulled at the edge of his head.He grabbed his head, forcing his body up as he scanned the room. The room was huge and gray The room was enormous—easily three times the size of the one he had stayed in at Drake’s house reeking of a familiar scent. Everything was draped in shades of gray, from the sleek walls to the plush bedding that lay over his body, giving the space a cold, expensive elegance. His mind drifted to the last thing he could remember, he was clearly inside Ronan's office when someone had—He jerked up quickly for the bed but before he could reach the door, it opened and someone stepped inside. Ronan. His well-defined, thick chest was bare as he was only clad in a black jogger which was barely on his waist as his v-line was so visible.Jayden gulped nothing down, taking a step backward. The sight before him was so freaking hot but the face staring at him
Drake's mind went still, he didn't know he had slid down using the cloth until the guard’s bright torchlight met his eyes. He knew Jayden had betrayed him but that was his problem to deal with not his father’s“I'm sorry, sir.” The guard quickly apologised, lowering both his gun and torch.“I'll handle him,” Drake dismissed, waving him off.“But—”“What's going on here?” Alessio's voice cut through the air.Drake's breath came heavy as he met his father's gaze. They were hunting for Ronan and he was protecting the only clue to him.“Nothing,” he gulped, before the guard could answer.Alessio's eyes peered into him, sharp and unwavering but he kept his expression still, refusing to give himself away.“Aren't you meant to be checking on Jayden?” he queried, breaking the tension.Drake swallowed down the lump in his throat, his palm getting sweaty. “I—”“Sir, Jayden is missing.” a voice suddenly yelled from above.Drake looked up instantly and it was Drake, gazing down from Jayden's win
The night air struck Ronan's lungs the second he jumped off Jayden's window, landing on the gravel below. His knees bent instantly to absorb the impact, his coat flaring behind him before settling into stillness. For a moment, he didn't move as his eyes lifted instinctively towards Jayden's room watching the curtains sway faintly.Ronan exhaled slowly and turned, moving along the wall in swift silence.Every step was measured and controlled like the practiced movements of someone who had survived too many ambushes to trust quiet nights. He was three strides from the fence when suddenly his instinct screamed halting his step. His gaze shifted sideways too quickly and there were men, dressed entirely in black, blending into the darkness so perfectly they almost didn't exist. They had no flashlights, no voices nor sound accompanying them just slow patrol patterns designed for one purpose. “To capture him.”Ronan's jaw tightened. “You never change, old man.” he murmured under his breath.
The gunshot still echoed in Jayden’s ears long after the sound died.Blood hit the floor first, quietly.Jayden’s gaze lifted inch by inch until the figure standing in front of him came into focus, Black. His shoulders trembled slightly, one hand pressed against the spreading stain soaking through his coat. Dark red seeped between his fingers, dripping steadily onto the concrete.Alessio lowered the gun, irritation flashing across his face.“What,” he said coldly, “do you think you are doing?”Black exhaled through clenched teeth, voice steady despite the strain. “Why don't you rethink this?”Jayden stared, breath stuck somewhere between his lungs and throat.“He’s still useful,” Black continued calmly. “Killing him now gains us nothing.”Smoke curled from Alessio’s cigarette as he tilted his head. “You stepped in front of my bullet.”“Sir…”“Do you believe your explanation is worth it?” Alessio interrupted, coldly.Black's lips twitched faintly. “I believe it is, if you spare me a c
The air in the room seemed to vanish as sweat clouded Jayden's palm.Black stood by the doorway, hands tucked casually into his coat pockets, his expression carved from stone.Sunlight hit him from behind, turning him into a silhouette blocking the only clear path to the door.“Well,” Black said mildly, gaze drifting to the bedstand. “You never disappoint me.”Jayden’s breathing came out fast and heavy as his hands instinctively pulled out the USB drive and slid it into his pocket. But Black noticed his movement, his lips curving faintly. “Your actions are so predictable.”Jayden's lips quivered. “What do you want?”Jayden chuckled under his breath and took a step forward, each step closing the distance between them.“So,” Black continued, ignoring Jayden's question, “this is what you've been rushing your life for.”Jayden swallowed. “My life is none of your business.”“None of my business?” Black repeated, stopping at the foot of the bed.So close enough for Jayden to notice the fain
The air in the room seemed to tense as they both sat staring at the television without a word.On the screen, Drake signed, shoulders slumping just enough to look regretful.“I take full responsibility for the altercation,” Drake said, smoothly. “I never wanted this to become public.”Ronan let out
Back at the city, Drake stood against the wall of his penthouse bathroom, blood smeared all over his body and pooling on the spot he stood on. His cold eyes gleamed dangerously as he stared at the bath tub filled with water mixed with ashes. On the floor not far from the bath tub lay a broken whi
Ronan banged the bathroom door behind them, the scent of cedar filling the air.Steam rose immediately as he twisted the faucet, the sound of rushing water filling the space like a warning.Jayden barely had time to steady himself before Ronan stepped under the running water, warm water hitting the
The ticking seconds on Jayden's wrist watch echoed in his ear as his gaze flickered from the man who gazed at him quietly from the car to the approaching reporters.Without thinking, he yanked the door open and jumped inside. “Drive,” he rasped. The car surged forward instantly with a speed that ma
