“Oh, I didn’t know he had a daughter.”

“Oh, he’s protective of her, only our trusted family and friends are aware.”

I nodded tightly. “That’s great.”

“What are you talking to her about?” Knox asked Vivian. I didn’t even see him coming.

“She just told me about your daughter,” his expression immediately hardened. “What’s her name?”

“Her name is Ana,” he gritted out.

“How old is she?”

“She’s eight.”

“How come you never told me about her?”

“It’s not a part of your job description now, is it?”

Ouch, that stings. “Right, right.” I nodded and sipped my expensive champagne. Vivian was watching the exchange with a smile on her face.

“Hey, Knox. Long time no see.” A man’s voice said behind us as he pulled Knox in for a hug.

“Hey man, I haven’t seen you in a while. How’s Auntie?”

“She sends her regards.”

***𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐱’𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐯*** I watched as she fumbled her way around the room, gathering files and other materials necessary for this meeting. I didn't mean to do that to her in the middle of the day, at work, but for some reason, I couldn't contain myself. I watch her through the cameras a lot. I don't think she knows that. Fury blazed in my blood when I saw her talking to that idiot while being all up on one another. I'm aware there's a good chance she feels something for me, but I'm not ready for any form of commitment with anyone. The proposal to Mr Miyaki wasn’t as important as I made it out to be, I just needed an excuse to get her in my bed again, and maybe to make Vivian jealous and see what she's missing. It's working I’ll say if the way she’d blown up my phone the past few weeks was any indication. I know I'll get tired of her eventually, but for now, I need her by my side. “It's time to go,” her sweet voice filtered through my thoughts.

“Gotta go, the boss is here,” I said to Tim. He smirked at me like a maniac. “Go get your man girlll.” Despite myself, I smiled. My chest was heaving throughout the ten-minute walk to his office. I faked a smile at Yvonne: the receptionist, “he looks angry,” she whispered. I swallowed the lump in my throat and stood tall then strutted in. “What are you doing?” He barked at me from his seat behind his enormous desk. “Is that a trick question?” I’m standing in front of you. What does it look like?” He gave me a don't test me look. “I mean why the hell are you not in the office when I arrived and openly flirting with that idiot from downstairs?” He demands. My mouth falls open in horror. “I wasn’t flirting.” “Bullshit. I saw it with my own fucking eyes. What do you think people would say when they see my fiancée flirting with some random dude from

We were officially back in New York and the workload was killing me. Knox has officially reverted to his asshole self and I'm losing it. “And your last meeting for tomorrow is at four pm. I got the suit you said you wanted in navy blue. It’s in the dressing room.” “Yeah, get the Trent Media and Co. files ready for me. I need to go through them again.” “Yes, Sir.” I moved closer to him to adjust his tie. “Okay… I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night.” “What?” “I said good night.” “I heard you. I’m asking why you are saying goodbye to me at this time of day.” “It’s 10 pm. My official work hour ended hours ago.” “So?” He asked with a raised eyebrow and he’s beginning to piss me off. “So, I’ve been working past my official hours for the past week. This is called overworking and it’s illegal.” “I’ve been overworking too.” “Well, it’s your company.” “

“Oh, congratulations to you my darling,” Mr Miyaki said as he cradled both of my hands in his and kissed them. He stood up and held Knox‘s hand in a firm handshake. “I’ll go over the proposal personally.” Knox nodded, smiling. “Thank you, Sir, I’d really appreciate that.” I watched the man leave before turning to Knox “Why on earth would you do that?” “For business.” I scoffed. “So what now? I’m suddenly your fiancée?” “Exactly.” “Why are you acting like this isn’t a big deal?” “Because it’s not,” he puts a finger on my lip to shush me when I attempt to talk. “Let me make you a whole new deal: Be my fiancée for the next six months till Debby gets back from her leave. I’ll pay you four times your salary and write you a wicked recommendation letter. There won’t be any place you can go that’ll refuse to give you a job.” Ohhkayy… this is a really great offer actually. “

“We saw what happened on the news,” Steve said from the other end of the line. “Are you okay?” Am I okay? I honestly don’t know how to answer that. I had my phone facedown on the bed and on loudspeaker and I was applying some treatment on the scrapes on my knees, and I think my ankle is twisted too, but for some reason it doesn’t hurt. My heart hurts so bad that it cancels out the bodily injuries. “Yeah, I’m good,” I heard myself say. “It was just a little shoving. Reporters can be rabid sometimes.” Steve’s breathing is the only thing I can hear, and I can tell he’s angry on my behalf. He’s always been like that, he was even more protective of me than he was of Stella. I think he’s the reason why I haven’t dated much. “Steve, it’s really okay, my boss pulled me out of there fast.” I shut out the thought of him. “Your boss, are you two truly dating?” Steve asked. “What,” I laughed heartily. “Of course not. I have an event to get dressed for so I’ll talk to y
