Chapter 3

After Ruby left, she still didn't show up the next day.

I threw the travel souvenir we bought together into the trash can.

I also threw away the ring on my finger.

She had specially hired a world-class designer to create it.

Her initials had been engraved on the ring.

I did not take it off in the past three years, but she never once wore her ring throughout the three years.

The research information had been sent to my inbox.

It was a memory erasure experiment. Ruby was a huge investor.

The experiment meant to erase painful memories and allow the person to start all over again.

"Mr. Scott, the application form that you've requested has been sent to you. But are you sure you want to participate in this experiment?"

When I received the application form, the lead researcher, Eddie Thompson, gave me a call.

"There is a huge risk. If anything goes wrong, it may cause irreversible damage to your brain.

"Do we need to inform Ms. Anderson about this?"

I answered indifferently, "No. I've already sent you the completed application. I'll head over to the research center today."

After I ended the call, someone suddenly kicked my bedroom door open.

A group of men in black subdued me without saying anything and brutally stuffed me into a black sack. Then, they hauled me into a car.

Just when I was almost suffocated, they brought me to Ruby.

Her expression was cold as she stared at me with immense hatred.

"Arthur, you never listened to me!"

She flung the videos and media articles in my face.

Ted stood beside her with his head bandaged. He looked embarrassed and angry.

"Ruby is going to marry you eventually. After we complete our pact, I'll immediately leave.

"And yet you resorted to something this disgusting just to get back at me."

I stared at the newspapers and blackmail letters scattered on the ground.

All of them were smearing Ted's name.

However, the videos and photos were still with me.

I did not post any of them.

When I looked at Ted again, the embarrassment from his face had disappeared. Instead, he looked extremely smug.

"I never did that."

My voice was hoarse. I knew no matter how I explained myself, Ruby would only believe Ted.

As expected, she massaged her temples and looked disappointed.

"How am I going to believe you? Other than the three of us, no one else knew about this.

"Arthur, I've told you before, I have ways to make your life a living hell."

I felt a cold shiver run through my body. I stared as the men in black inched closer to me.

As they broke my ankle, I saw black spots in my vision from the immense pain.

She looked down at me.

"I've treated you too well.

"Throw him in the man-made lake and feed him to the piranhas. Don't allow him to leave until he's learned his lesson!"

They dragged me against the ground and tossed me into the lake.

The cold water went up my mouth and nose. The piranhas smelled food as they swam toward me ferociously.

They tore into my arms and calves.

The blood only excited them even more.

Very soon, blood started to stain the lake water.

When I tried to raise my head up, someone would press my head down again.

I had no idea how long it had been before they finally hauled me out.

After some basic treatment, they tossed me outside of the mansion.
