It had been ten years, and Ethan—my mate—and I still didn’t have a pup. One day, he suggested we adopt one from the Werewolf Orphan Charity Agency. “My mate,” he said gently, “pregnancy is too hard for you. You’d have to go through so many checkups and herbs. Your wolf shouldn’t have to suffer like that.” When others heard this, they all said Ethan loved me deeply—that he couldn’t bear to see me in pain. But I saw the truth with my own eyes. He took an infant pup from another she-wolf. “Luckily, Mia isn’t pregnant,” he said. “That way, the excuse of adopting an infant works—and the pup can have a legitimate status in my clan.” I knew that she-wolf well. The same one Ethan used to call a “stupid omega.” Swallowing the bitterness in my heart, I called my mentor at the Werewolf Research Academy. “I want to devote myself to herb research,” I said calmly. Three days from now, during the pup’s first New Moon blessing, I’ll fake my death in a fire. No one will be able to stop me.

Chapter 1

"Mia, Ethan spoiled you far too much. By tradition, our pack demands a pure-blood heiress born from Alpha Ethan himself. But no — he was too afraid you’d suffer during pregnancy, so he chose to adopt an infant pup who doesn’t even carry his blood."

"Yeah, adoption’s great. Or maybe Ethan just worries about you so much, he needs it to ease his conscience."

All my friends came to congratulate me when they heard Ethan and I were going to adopt a pup.

They all said how lucky that pup was — to be chosen by an alpha.

But only I knew the truth. That infant wasn’t just any pup.

It was his.

His own blood.

Surrounded by cheers and applause, I stood there, smiling like a fool.

But deep inside, my wolf let out a low, mournful sigh —

the kind only a soul cracked by betrayal could make.

That morning, I went to the pack mansion and snuck into the werewolf surveillance room.

I had to see it for myself.

On the footage, I watched Elsa drag Ethan into his office.

She looped her arms around his neck, pulled on his tie, and yanked him closer.

Then she loosened the top buttons of his shirt—

“You should understand your position,” he purred, his voice low and dripping with arrogance.

“You’re just a tool for me to satisfy my desire.”

Elsa blinked slowly, her eyes filled with an aching vulnerability.

She bit her lower lip, voice soft, trembling just enough to sound pitiful.

“Ethan… you know I gave birth to your pup.”

The moment she said it, Ethan's expression twisted.

His hand shot out, grabbing her jaw in a hard grip.

His face darkened, rage flickering behind his eyes.

“So what? Listen to me — that pup belongs to me and Mia, even if you gave birth to him. If you dare tell her the truth… you’ll face the consequences.”

His words were like blades, slashing through Elsa’s heart.

But even before the sting of his threat could fully settle, their lips were already pressed together again — tangled in betrayal and lust.

I had watched for over three hours, but each second felt like an eternity. In the end, I didn’t have the strength to keep watching.

The name Elsa wasn’t unfamiliar to me.

He used to mention Elsa — not often, but just enough to make her linger in my mind. Sometimes it seemed intentional, other times like she slipped into conversation without thought. But his tone never changed: always sharp, disdainful… as if the mere thought of her irritated him.

He said she disgusted him. He said he couldn’t wait to drive her out of the pack.

But now I understood — his wolf wanted her.

So his hatred wasn’t real… and neither was his promise to love me forever.

As I listened to their soft laughter and whispered words from the surveillance footage, my wolf trembled so violently that I could barely stand. I had to cling to the wall just to keep myself upright.

I don't even remember how I left the surveillance room. My mind had gone completely blank. Everything after that was a blur.

“My Luna?”

A hand waved in front of my face, blurry at first. Then everything slowly came into focus.

When I looked up, it was Ethan — holding an infant, no more than a month old, close against his chest.

“What’s wrong, Mia? You’re pale as a ghost. Tell me what happened.”

Alarmed, he hurriedly handed the infant to a nearby guard. His brows furrowed so deeply it looked as if his wolf's heart had shattered just from seeing me like this.

I opened my mouth to speak, but Elsa — standing right beside him — stepped forward first. Her face wore a mask of concern.

“Luna, you must take better care of yourself. After all, you’ll need your strength to look after your pup in the future. Alpha will be so worried if your wolf remains this weak.”

Her words sounded sweet on the surface, but I could hear the mockery bleeding through every syllable — flattery twisted into poison.

And she dared to say “your pup”, as if the one in Ethan’s arms wasn’t hers. As if I didn’t already know the truth.

Before I could react, Ethan turned sharply and barked,

“This isn't your place to speak! Watch your mouth.”

I swallowed the bitterness rising in my throat and forced myself not to flinch.

So this was how he played it — a wolf who could scold his mistress in front of me, just to act like a loyal mate.

No wonder he could lie so perfectly. No wonder he’d made me believe I was the only one.

He leaned in to kiss me — a gesture that might’ve comforted me once.

But this time, I quietly pushed him away.

Then I turned and rushed to the restroom. My stomach churned, but it wasn’t just from nausea.

Inside, I looked at the pregnancy test I had once placed on the sink — left there on purpose, like a silent surprise waiting for him.

A part of me had wanted to see joy in his eyes when he found it.

Back when I still believed in us. Back when I thought he’d be thrilled to know we were expecting.

But after everything…

I grabbed it, my hands trembling, and tossed it straight into the trash.

My wolf whimpered deep inside.

He didn’t deserve this part of me. Not even a glimpse of it.
