Chapter 2

Author: Ava
All the guests had already left by the time I returned to the hall.

Ethan was cradling the infant against his chest with such tenderness, whispering sweetly,

"Charles, my good little pup… Are you happy now that Daddy brought you home?"

Elsa stood beside him, giggling as she tickled the baby, her face glowing with joy.

I froze in the doorway of the restroom, staring at the picture-perfect scene — a “happy family of three wolves.”

When Ethan finally noticed me, he shoved Elsa away deliberately.

“Back off! Your clothes are filthy — he could get an allergy!”

Then, as if I hadn’t just witnessed the intimacy he tried to erase, he snapped at her coldly,

“Do you really have nothing better to do? If you keep idling around like this, I won’t hesitate to throw you out of the pack!”

I bit back a bitter smile.

Once upon a time, I lived in ignorance. Now, it wasn’t even hard to see the truth — it screamed at me in every single detail.

Elsa flushed with embarrassment and anger. She glanced at me, her eyes burning, before storming out in silence.

Ethan turned back swiftly, acting surprised to see me, then closed the distance and gently pressed his cheek against mine.

“I hate when pack members interrupt my private time,” he muttered softly. “It’s draining… Only with you, my Luna, can I truly feel at peace.”

Then he added, as if nothing had happened,

“How about we take Charles to the beach for a walk? It’ll be good for you — you can bond with him. And you deserve to relax.”

Watching the way he held the pup — so natural, so practiced — I realized this wasn’t new.

He’d clearly been with the baby for a while now. Long before I knew.

I couldn’t help but sigh. He was such a good father. Just… not to the right pup.

The mansion we lived in was a gift from Ethan for our tenth bonding anniversary. He said it was his symbol of “eternal love” — a home by the sea, a promise carved into brick.

But now I knew: it had always been built on lies.

As we walked along the shoreline, my ankle twisted suddenly, and I came to an abrupt stop.

But Ethan didn’t even notice — he just kept walking ahead, all his attention devoted to the infant nestled in his arms.

Watching his back grow smaller with every step, I fought to keep my tears from spilling.

But my vision blurred, and in my daze, my wedding ring slipped from my trembling fingers. It hit the wet sand with a soft clink... then the waves came, and took it away.

The sound made me gasp, unintentionally.

Ethan finally turned around, startled by my voice. He rushed over, his expression panicked.

“Mia? What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

I looked up at him — the one I had loved for ten years — and the tears I had tried so hard to hold back finally streamed down my cheeks, unstoppable.

“My ring fell into the sea.”

Ethan glanced at my finger, and I could clearly see the panic in his wolf’s eyes.

There was no time for words. He quickly handed the infant to me, then lowered his head and plunged toward the water, searching frantically.

Watching his reaction, I didn’t know whether I should feel touched by his supposed affection—or just admire the perfection of his act.

By the time I snapped out of the memory, he had already merged into the crashing waves.

I remembered our bonding ceremony.

Back then, Ethan cried like a pup—a rare sight for someone so serious, so dignified as the alpha of our pack.

He had tried several times to slip the ring onto my finger, his hands trembling with excitement and nerves.

But that memory was shattered by the sudden shadow of someone running toward the sea.

It was Elsa.

She rushed past me without even noticing I was there.

Desperate, she sprinted straight into the water and tore off her coat, eyes only on Ethan.

I stood frozen, watching as she reached him and wrapped her arms around him in the shimmering sunlight.

Their figures grew smaller and smaller as they disappeared into the sea together—two silhouettes melting into the waves.

I didn’t know how much time had passed when Ethan finally returned.

He stood before me, dripping wet, his chest rising and falling as he struggled to breathe.

“M… Mia… the ring… I couldn’t find it…”

I saw the water streaming down his face, nonstop.

But I couldn’t tell—were they tears, or just sea water?

When I looked at him more closely, I noticed something even more shocking:

Clear marks of kisses littered his neck and chest.

Behind him stood Elsa, her clothes a mess—clinging to her body, soaked and twisted out of place.

Her hair was disheveled, lips slightly swollen, and the fresh red mark on her neck left little room for doubt.

Anyone with eyes could see it—

they hadn’t just been diving for a ring.

I could almost picture exactly what they had done beneath the waves.

Yet Ethan still had the audacity to pretend he had been looking for my ring all along.

He kept blaming himself, voice filled with false remorse.

“Mia, it’s all my fault… I couldn’t find your ring. I know it represents the promise I made to you. But please, don’t worry. I’ll still stay loyal to you—ring or not, our bond remains.”

Loyal?

Hearing that word—“loyal”—while the kiss marks were still fresh on his skin made me feel nothing but disgust.

I lowered my head, staring at my bare finger.

Then I met his eyes and asked coldly,

“Ethan, could it be that the Moon Goddess deliberately let the ring slip away… as a sign of your betrayal?”

When I looked up and saw that it was Ethan, the smile on my face instantly vanished. But the wolf didn’t seem to care. He handed his card to the cashier as if nothing had happened.Even from a distance, I could smell the strong scent of alcohol on him.Ethan was shaking with nervousness, unable to even look me in the eye. After hesitating for a long while, he finally asked,“Are you… okay?”I already knew he had sent his commander after me, so I wasn’t all that surprised. But that didn’t stop the tightness in my chest—I didn’t want to share another breath of air with him.I replied calmly,“Since you’ve found out the truth, then you should also know that I never want to see you again.”Ethan nodded as if it were only natural, then suddenly began to sob.Sniffling, he took the card back from the cashier and stuffed it into his pocket.“Mia—no, my Luna,” he said.“Do you know how happy I was when I heard you were in Shadow Pack yesterday?”“I wanted nothing more than to rush to your side

  • Only When I Died Did He Go Insane   Chapter 9

Ever since I arrived in Shadow Pack, life has moved at a dizzying pace.My straightforward professor even joked that I’d been a pampered rich Luna for too long and didn’t understand the struggles of ordinary people. But as a werewolf herbal researcher, I gave it my all—starting from scratch again.Still, I was carrying a little one in my belly, and the morning sickness had been rough.“Mia, don’t overwork yourself. You’ve got to think of the baby,” a coworker said to me with concern. Then she asked,“I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but… raising a pup alone is incredibly hard. Are you really sure about this?”I curved my lips into a smile and lowered my head to gently rub my slightly rounded belly, nodding with determination.Whether I was a wealthy Luna or just an ordinary working she-wolf, I believed one thing with all my heart: a mother is always strong.Just then, the research institute announced a new project—a perfect opportunity for me to establish myself here.By the time I

“Mia hasn’t come for her prenatal checkup in a long time. I wonder how she’s doing now.”“Shh! You didn’t hear? Mia is actually Alpha Ethan’s mate. No one knows whether she’s alive or dead—don’t let others hear you talk about this.”Hearing this, it felt like a sledgehammer struck Ethan’s chest. His eyes turned red, and he rushed over in a few quick steps, demanding,“What did you just say?”“My mate, Mia—she’s pregnant?!”The nurses immediately realized they had said too much, but they had no choice but to explain under pressure.“Luna specifically instructed us not to tell you about the pregnancy. We really had no choice…”Tears welled up in Ethan’s eyes as he choked back emotion and forced the nurses to show him the medical records.Left with no alternative, the nurses led him to the examination room. Inside were ultrasound images from my prenatal visits.Ethan stared in disbelief at the image in his hand, stunned into silence. He gazed at it for a long time as tears streamed down h

When Ethan opened his eyes again, he immediately checked his phone. There were over ninety-nine unread messages—but not a single one was from me.He still couldn’t accept it. I was still missing, without a trace.Just as he tried to sit up, Elsa suddenly entered his sight.“Alpha Ethan, you’re not supposed to get out of bed yet,” she said gently. “The doctor said you still need to be under observation.”Ethan stared coldly at the woman in front of him. A surge of disgust welled up inside him.“Do you know how sick I feel just looking at you right now?”“Get out. Now.”Elsa forced down the irritation in her heart, like she had made up her mind.“She’s already dead. Torturing yourself like this won’t bring her back, and no one’s going to feel sorry for you.”“When you recover, let’s get married. Wouldn’t it be nice for the three of us to be a family?”Ethan instantly latched onto her words, eyes widening in disbelief.“What did you say?”“Who said Mia is dead? What nonsense are you spout

  • Only When I Died Did He Go Insane   Chapter 6

Ethan clutched his phone tightly, clinging to the last shred of hope that Mia might reply. He lifted his eyes in despair—the flames were growing fiercer, smoke so thick it burned his eyes.Several werewolf police officers stayed close around him, afraid he’d try to rush back in like he did earlier.Ethan’s heart pounded violently. There was no way he could just stand there and do nothing. As soon as he saw firefighters coming out of the villa, he dashed forward."Where—where’s my mate? You had so many people go in—she has to be found, right?""Huh?"The firefighters exchanged glances and slowly shook their heads."The blaze was too intense. Our crew searched the interior, but there was no sign of your wife. Only two possibilities—either she was never inside, or..."That sentence completely shattered Ethan.Like a madman, he grabbed the werewolf firefighter by the collar, eyes bloodshot with rage."She’s not dead! My mate is not dead! You don’t know anything! She couldn’t be dead!"Seei

The next second, the furious pounding on the door grew louder and more desperate, the soundproof panels unable to block it out."Mia!""Mia, are you in there?! Please, I’m begging you, just say something!"…I had locked the door. Calm and unhurried, I turned up the flames. Then, I slipped out through the hidden passage behind the rear window.Funny, really—Ethan had used this very passage just two nights ago. That’s how I discovered it.I ran all the way to the main road, where the getaway car I arranged in advance was already waiting. The driver didn’t rush. Instead, he leaned forward, craning his neck to watch the scene with a gossipy grin."Tsk tsk… what a shame. That whole den’s gone up in flames. The alpha must be heartbroken."I followed his gaze.Smoke billowed into the sky, thick and black. The fire devoured the den.Ethan was there.Despite everything, he screamed like a madman, trying to charge into the fire. But the blaze was too intense.People swarmed him, holding him bac
