They had no idea what it was like outside the room. She thought it might be a cold rainy day by the way she felt though she also knew that it could be just because they were trapped in the room and she wasn’t moving like she normally did. Haven knew that Mack was getting even more restless than she was. It wasn’t like either of them to want to just lay around for days on end, but there wasn’t much either of them could do.
“You need to shave,” Haven said as he looked at her, and she looked away from staring at him for five minutes straight.
“Why?” he asked with a chuckle.
The following night he received the phone call he had known was coming. The other department had gone through the footage of his apartment that his secret cameras had picked up, and in the process, they found five different officers and higher-ups placing things there that they found. Mack had known all along that they were there to plant things there to discredit him from anything he would and could say about them. Those five were being dealt with by the state police at the moment. Some of the other officers were confused about the reason they had been called in for questioning, but it was soon apparent that the ones who were being asked the questions were low level in the grand scheme of this. Soon the doctors were also pulled in, and differe
They both knew their tensions were high as they calmed down from their tiff. Though they didn’t really fight, they knew it would end whatever they had begun if they continued. Haven knew then he really didn’t think that he deserved her in his life though he had wanted it for even longer than she had. She knew whatever he had done in his life, he had been trying to survive. She knew he didn’t have it easy or things handed to him like she had in her own life. That didn’t change anything, though. She loved him for everything that he was and everything she knew he could be with
As he looked at them, he knew it was time for them to act. “They need me to come in.” Mack said, and she looked at him.“What?” Haven asked as she looked at him, surprised. “It is time to come out of hiding,” Mack said with a chuckle. “The main players are all taken in, including your cousin,” Mack said. “With the help of your brother, they found out enough to finally pick him up.”“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Haven asked as she looked at him. They both stood up, and he bent down to cover her mouth with
The drive out of the house was peaceful though Haven didn’t know what to really expect when the garage door opened up. She was hoping this wouldn’t turn into a huge thing where she and Mack were being chased down. There was no one there waiting for them to leave. She had to smile to herself that it was nothing like what she had thought it would be. Mack looked out the windows and was slightly smiling to himself. This might be the exact thing he needed to finally be happy and free from the other department. He really didn’t want his name attached to them and all that they had a hand in. He would forever be labeled as a dirty cop if this hadn’t happened.
The station house was busy as people were darting everywhere around the desks. It almost looked like they were over the number of people that could be in there. However, when Mack walked in, they all stopped and looked at him. He was standing tall and in a polo shirt and slacks that made him seem almost untouchable. This was different then what they knew him to wear. Women’s eyes went wide, and the men all had a shadow pass over their faces. It was like Mack was almost a demon or something to these people. It had to be because he had made so much work for them. Haven knew that this was going to be the thing he was remembered for the entirety of his career. He was the lynchpin to bringing down an entire police department and the criminal s
“Haven, what are you saying?” Mack asked as she stared in the direction of the man.“I have seen him recently.” She said as she looked at him. “Mack, you know I remember everything.” “I know.” He said as she looked at the older man, “She is a genius. She has a photographic memory as well. If she says she saw him, she did.” “Everyone here is clean, though.” The older man said as he looked in the direction of the man, and he took a large breath of air into his lungs. “He isn’t one of mine, though.&rd
“In the hospital, when a code is called, all doctors have to respond, even ones like me, if I am there.” Haven said as she looked at the man, “I was busy getting coffee and ice. The ice in the emergency room is always the best in the hospital. I have no idea why. I went to the one that was just arriving, and that was Mack. I looked at him, and he looked at me. We hadn’t seen each other in years, but he was the same. I said his name, and the doctor who took the lead heard me. I was reassigned to the other patient because of the friends and family policy at the hospital. You can’t work on people you know.” “Sounds like a good policy.” The captain said.
Mack walked out, knowing that this whole thing was mostly over for them. He would have more to do when he got back to work, but now he had to begin the process of getting her on board with everything that he wanted out of their joint lives. He smiled when he remembered the small things they used to do on campus when they were there. He looked at her and smiled, and with a sigh, “I think we have some things to do.” “Like?” she asked as she looked at him with her head tilted upwards. She had no idea of the things he was planning.“Can I drive?” he
