Kevin's POV
"What!" I screamed as the doctor broke the news to me. It sounded like a ticking time bomb to my ears. The whole scenario felt like a bad dream to me. I just wanted to wake up from it.
"It can't be true doctor. Can you please diagnose her again?" Shawn pleaded with him, shaking with fear and disbelief.
I took a look at Purple who sat in a corner, holding her knees to herself as she wept.
The doctor placed a soothing hand on my shoulder. "That is the truth about her health situation Kevin. That's the truth."
"A stage 3 heart cancer?" I said like a maniac.
"What of the chairman?" The doctor asked, referring to my dad.
"He went on a trip with my mum. I have called them and they will be back to Los Angeles any moment from now." Shawn responded.
The doctor nodded and signaled to me. "Let's talk in my office Kevin." He said and led the way.
"Kevin, like I said earlier, your grandma has a stage 3 heart cancer." The doctor told me when we got to his office.
I became confused. "But how doctor? How did this get to the third stage? The last time you diagnosed her of cancer, we made sure she regularly came here for her medical check-up and she never missed her medications. We made sure of that so how? How did this happen?"
"Kevin, heart cancer is not a disease that can be easily treated. Granny is in her early eighties. Her immune system has grown weak with age to fight against this disease."
I slowly nodded. "Tell me doctor, tell me all about this disease. What do I need to know? What do I need to do? Can it be treated? She won't die right?"
"Kevin, it was diagnosed by echocardiogram, a cardial ultrasound. We also had to use further non-invasive imaging with computed tomography for a more accurate diagnosis.
Heart cancer results from a heart tumor like angiosarcoma which spreads to the heart. It occurs when diseased cells grow out of control near the heart. These cells form a tumor and causes heart failure, pericarditis and arrhythmias. Granny's case is very rare. The best solution in this case is chemotherapy." The doctor explained.
I opened my eyes wide in shock. "Chemotherapy?"
"Yes Kev. We need to operate on her as soon as possible in order to prevent it from reaching the fourth stage." He revealed.
I held the doctor's hands in sullenly. "Doctor Mark, you have been the family doctor over the years. Please do everything possible to make sure that Granny survives. You know how much she means to the family. We can't lose her."
Doctor Mark patted my shoulder comfortingly, "We will do our best Kevin."
"What are the chances of her surviving this surgery?" I wanted to know.
"To be honest with you Kevin, the chances of survival is 60 percent. She might last longer for few more years. Let's be positive."
I bit my lips in pains. "It is okay doctor. We will discuss it with my parents when they arrive but for now, how is she doing? Can I see her now?"
The doctor packed a few documents into a portfolio and looked at me. "She is awake but you can see her for just four to five minutes as her body is still very weak. You are the only one that will be permitted to see her for today. No other person will be allowed to see her." He told me as he signaled to me to follow him.
I met Purple and Shawn right in front of the doctor's office. They were obviously eavesdropping on my conversation with the doctor. They looked at me with questioning gazes.
I placed a hand each on their shoulders. "Guys, we will talk when I get home. I need to see her now." I felt a jab of pain in my heart as I looked at their gloomy expressions. I pulled them closer to myself and hugged them.
"It is going to be fine guys. She will come back to us. We need to be positive and wish for her safe recovery. This is the time she needs us most." I disengaged and spoke to Shawn. "Take Purple home and make sure she is fine. Hmm? I will soon be home."
Shawn nodded and help Purple's hands as they walked out of the hospital, escorted by their bodyguards.
"Let's go doctor" I said to Doctor Mark.
The hospital room smelt of disinfectant and medicine. It was an exclusive ward so there was no other patient in the room. It was specifically designed for a person. There were two nurses in the room, tending to her.
"Granny" I called in a low tone as I ran to her. She was lying down.
Drips were connected to her body and I would never forget the look of pain and death on her face.
"Son" She called out in a very feeble voice and held my hands.
"Grandma" I responded, my voice almost breaking down. "You will be fine granny. You will get surgery and you will be fine. You will no more be in pains."
"No son." She slowly shook her head. "I will not give my consent to be operated on."
"But Granny, you can't...."
"Listen son, I have lived a fulfilling life. I need to rest. My soul needs that eternal peace. My time is so short. I will not spend the rest of my life on this bed with drips connected to my life and feasting daily on drugs. I only have a wish son. Before I take my last breathe, I need to see your woman. You are not getting any younger."
"My woman?" I asked, confusedly.
"If I die before you get married, at least I deserve to see your fiance."
"But Granny, I don't even have a girlfriend." I protested.
"It's my last wish son. I have watched you grow with so much love and affection radiating from you. You deserve a wonderful woman, an amazing woman who is just like your mother. Before my eyes close in death, I want to see her. I want to die surrounded by my loved ones." Grandma said with a tone of finality.
"But grandma..."
"Promise me son, that you will make me happy, even in death." She tightened her hold on my hands.
At that point, I knew that she wasn't joking with her words. I needed to make her happy.
"Promise me"
"I promise you granny. I promise that I will bring her to you soon."
She smiled and patted my head with affection. "Thank you son."
I looked at her and smiled wryly, wondering how I was going to fulfill my promise to her. Little did I know that my promise to her would forever change the course of my life.
Chelsie's POVJamie and I woke up very early the next morning to prepare for the day's work. Glen Motion Pictures had texted us the location for the shooting of the movie. All we had to do was to get prepared and go to the location. The location was at a hotel."I still can't believe that I'm going to finally set my eyes on Nadia Grayson." Jamie giggled excitedly in the cab taking us to the location."Lucky you." I responded with indifference.I don't get fascinated by celebrities so I wasn't a fan girl. Obsessing over celebrities wasn't just my thing.Jamie was the exact opposite of me. She would follow up stories of her favorite celebrities- singers, models and actresses alike. She attended concerts, runway shows and a lot of movies premieres and would seize every opportunity to take pictures with them.Jamie playfully gave me a jab in the stomach and looked at me."Ouch! that hurts!" I exclaimed, faking pains. "What did you do that for?"Jamie jabbed me again and laughed. "You don't
Chelsie's POVThe shooting of the movie scenes were easier and faster than I had expected. Nadia Grayson was such a talented actress no doubt. She ate her role perfectly, leaving no crumbs. The other actors and actresses were on the A-list, that is, they were all stars. They took on their roles really well and soon, we were on the third scene. When we were done, Mr Park gave everyone a twenty-minute break."The MYtip times, one of the sponsors of this series donated a food truck with varieties of dishes. You all can go there and have your lunch." He announced.Tired, Jamie and I walked towards the food truck, parked within the premises of the hotel."Gosh! I'm so famished and tired." Jamie said with a yawn as she stretched out her arms, lazily."Lazy ass." I teased her, pinching her cheeks in a playful manner."Well... you can say so." She said with a shrug and laughed.Jamie looked at me with a more serious expression."What's between you and Nadia?" She asked me, curiosity written ov
Chelsie's PovThe kinds of decisions we make at times defines who we are. When these decisions change the course of our lives, I call it destiny. Not knowing what destiny had in stock for me, I stood in front of the beautifully structured mansion and rang the doorbell. I looked around with nostalgia as the sweet fragrance of jasmine and roses filled my nose. It looked at the place I once called home with a heavy heart. I was back home for the first time in two years. I felt hot tears rolled down my eyes as I remembered the circumstances that led to me leaving the house. I quickly wiped my tears and rang the doorbell once again, silently hoping that she would opened the door. It was as if the heavens heard my prayers. The door slowly opened with a creak. She appeared at the door almost immediately. Her expression changed to a sour one on sighting me. I tried hard to fight back the emotions of pains, hurts and anger as I took a good look at her. She didn't change one bit since the l
Kevin's POV"Nadia is back to Los Angeles. The news was confirmed this afternoon." Sebastian Harts informed me. With his drink in hand, he sat on the sofa nearest to me and gently dropped his wineglass on a stool. He folded his arms and crossed his legs, looking at me with intent.I ignored him and focused on the people trooping in and out of the eatery in their luxury cars. I could get a good view of the eatery because we were in Sebastian's penthouse, built right beside the eatery.Right in front of the eatery was a gigantic billboard decorated with glowing lights. The picture used for advertisement that day was that of a couple with their kids having a meal. They all looked happy and delighted as they ate their meal.I smiled inwardly as I allowed my gaze to linger on the illustration on the billboard. I loved the beautiful memories it gave me. Torrents of nostalgia came rushing to my mind as I remembered my childhood days. My parents would take my siblings and I out on Sunday even
Kevin's POVThe balcony was a magnificent display of grandeur. The girandole added luster to the interior sets of the balcony. Faint led lights of red and green twinkled from every corner. The floor tiles were made with crystalline limestones and the metallic banisters shone from the reflection of the lit candlesticks. It was past 6pm, the perfect time to have some quiet moments to myself. The day had been very busy for me. From evaluating documents to signing them and to attending the shareholders' meeting in the company. I decided to go straight to my parents' home after work. Granny had come visiting my parents. I always looked forward to seeing her. I got home that afternoon and met her sleeping. I left her alone to enjoy her sleep. Since no other person was at home except the domestic workers, I got bored and headed to the balcony after dinner. The balcony used to be my favourite place in the manor before I got my own apartment and moved out of my family home. The fresh air, t
Chelsie's POV "Finally" I said with a sigh of relief as I inserted the last scoop of the flour dough into the oven. The small oven made a short, sizzling sound as soon as I connected the cable to the kitchen switch. "Oops! This oven is getting faulty again. I guess I need to call the repairer before the end of this week." I said to myself with a grunt. I looked around the small, cozy kitchen and was satisfied with the work done. I cleaned the kitchen while I baked. Jamie and I had decided to have bread and fruit juice that morning. I offered to bake the bread while she cleaned the bedrooms and living room. I heard the sound of running water behind me. I had forgotten to turn off the water. "What were you thinking?" I scolded myself as I turned off the tap which stood above the ceramic kitchen sink and hurriedly cleaned the kitchen counter which was already drenched in water. The kitchen was sparkling clean and shinny. The walls were painted in a glossy, pink colour marked with mil
Kevin's POVI had taken a day off at work to spend some nice times with my folks. Mother and father had gone on their yearly visit to Paris. It was a couple goal for them and they never missed it. They left Los Angeles just a day after Shawn's arrival. Shawn White is my younger brother. He was more like an explicit version of my younger self. He was a nerd who would spend hours exploring the technological world, wearing those big eyeglasses of his. He had just returned from America. He was away for more than a year to further his studies and he finally came back. It was quite an emotional reunion for us all especially Purple, who had been the closest to him in the family. To celebrate the arrival of Shawn, I took Granny, Shawn and Purple on a family picnic. Laurel hotels and resorts belonged to mother. The hotel was surrounded with the hue of nature. It was beautifully defined with forest greens. Laurel hotels and resorts was the kind of place that gave tranquility and calmness to
