Albert

Edward didn’t let me go for a long time. Even after my sobs had slowed and my breathing steadied, his arms stayed wrapped around me as though his body could shield me from something neither of us could see. My cheek rested against the solid warmth of his chest, and I listened to his heart hammering beneath my ear, faster than usual, unsteady.

I had scared him.

“Albert,” he whispered eventually, his lips brushing against my hair. “What did you see? Tell me what you saw.”

I tensed. The dream clawed at the edges of my mind, still raw, still too vivid. But the thought of speaking it aloud… of telling him that I had seen Emon tearing him apart, breaking the bond, laughing while I stood helpless, made bile rise in my throat.

So I shook my head, clutching tighter to him.

“It was just… a nightmare. Nothing real.”

Edward pulled back slightly, enough to search my face. His eyes glowed faintly in the moonlight, worry etched into every line of him.

“Albert…”

“I’m fine,” I cut in, forcin

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    182. When the Bond Screamed

EdwardThe bond did not fade gently. It snapped. Not cleanly, such things are never clean, but like sinew torn from bone, like something alive screaming as it was wrenched apart. I staggered mid-step and gasped as I held my chest.Air left my lungs in a violent ush, my knees buckling as if the earth itself had struck me. One moment Albert had been there, faint and distant, but present, and the next there was nothing. No warmth. No pull. No answering echo to my heartbeat.Just silence.“No,” I whispered, the word scraping raw from my throat. The world tilted. My vision blurred, not from injury, not from exhaustion, but from a terror so sudden and complete that it hollowed me out. I clutched at my chest like I could physically grab the bond, like I could hold it in place if I pressed hard enough.Nothing answered. All was silent.I had known pain all my life. I had known wounds that split flesh and shattered bone. I had known the agony of loss. But this… this was worse. This was losing

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    181. The Threshold

AlbertDeath is not darkness. That was the first lie I had believed.Darkness implies absence. To me, it was like an empty room, a door closed, a world gone quiet. But what claimed me was not absence. It was pressure. A vast, crushing stillness that pressed against me from every direction, as if the universe itself had leaned in close and whispered, Enough.I did not fall into it. No. I was taken. I was forced into it.There was no pain at first. Pain requires nerves, breath, a body still arguing with life. I had none of those. I was awareness stripped bare, floating in a place where time did not move forward or backward. It only waited. And in that waiting, I felt them. Not voices. Not faces.Presences and it made my unconscious self jolt. They were two small lights, fragile and impossibly bright, brushing past me like moth wings against my soul. My babies. They did not cry. They did not reach. They only paused. I felt them linger at the edge of me, as if curious, as if reluctant to

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    180. Ripped

Albert“Albert, decide. For the sake of our familial ties, I don't want to hurt you. But if you continue being stubborn, you will force my hand,” Aiden said as if he was a saint.I looked up at him and despite the pain I was in, I chuckled.“Familial ties? Did you think about familial ties when you kidnapped me, brother? Did you think about familial ties when you colluded with this witch to kill me? Do mom and dad know what you did to me? Do they know what you are doing to me now? So, Aiden, if you want to kill me, go ahead but don't think that you and I are family. We ceased to be a long time ago and the fact that I didn't tell mom about what you did to me wasn't because I love you. It was because I love her and I would hate to see her get hurt,” I said and as I finished saying that, another contraction hit. This one was so intense that I stretched my body on the floor and writhed in pain as I felt my pelvic tear.“Mama, we can't hold on anymore," I heard a voice tell me but when I s

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    179. Against the Wind

EdwardThe earth did not simply shake. It roared.I felt it first through my bones, an old, primal language spoken straight into marrow and instinct. The infirmary groaned like a wounded animal as the floor buckled beneath my bare feet. Shelves crashed. Stone split. The newly rebuilt beams screamed in protest, and then the world lurched violently to the side.“Albert!”The name tore out of me before I could stop it.A wind followed. Not a natural one. It burst through the infirmary with such force that it snuffed candles, hurled curtains from their rods, and sent healers flying like leaves. It was freezing, unnaturally so, biting through skin and muscle, carrying with it a stench I had hoped never to sense again.Old blood. Dark magic. Rot.I reached for Albert just as the light fractured. The moon outside was full, brilliant, watchful—but its silver glow dimmed abruptly, swallowed by a shadow that seemed to press inward from every wall. The wind howled once, sharp and piercing, and t

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    178. The Shape I Refuse

AlbertPain came in waves. Not the sharp, tearing pain I had been taught to expect, not yet, but the deep, grinding kind that curled inside my bones and dragged itself slowly across my abdomen. It tightened, eased, tightened again, as if my body were knocking on a door I refused to open.I lay on my side on the cold stone floor, knees drawn up, arms wrapped around my stomach. The air reeked of old magic, blood, ash and herbs that had long since lost their potency but still clung to the walls like ghosts. The chamber was carved deep into the earth, roots threading through cracks in the ceiling like skeletal fingers.I did not howl. That was the first thing Bibi Kamwe noticed. She circled me slowly, bare feet whispering against the stone, her bracelets chiming softly with every step. She had changed since the forest. She was now thinner, sharper and her eyes were burning with a hunger that had nothing to do with victory.“You’re fighting it,” she said mildly. “Interesting.”I breathed t

  • Our Little Secret: In Love With My Professor    177. The Lair of Waiting Shadows

AlbertPain is a tide.It comes, it goes, it lies to me in the silence between waves and tells me I might survive this. Then it comes back harder.I wake on cold stone, breath tearing out of my chest as another contraction rips through me. My hands claw uselessly at the ground, fingers scraping against symbols carved deep into the floor; old runes, darkened by time and blood and something far worse.Bibi Kamwe’s lair.I can tell even without trying because everything here smells like the rot she is.The air here is thick, damp, humming with wrongness. Shadows cling to the walls like living things, stretching and recoiling as if they’re breathing. The ceiling is lost in darkness, and the only light comes from a ring of firestones embedded around the chamber, casting everything in a sickly amber glow.My belly is tight. Too tight.I curl inward instinctively, cradling it, whimpering when another wave of pain crashes through me. My body shakes violently, sweat slicking my skin despite th
