Chapter 5 – It was Interesting

Waking up the next morning; the smell of bacon cooking wafted through the air. Coming out of his room, Emmett saw Simone slaving over the stove. “Good morning” he announces, taking a seat at the dining table.

“You’re awake” Simone responds, placing three eggs into the frypan. “Mrs Walker always said a wife should cook for her husband because food is the way to a man’s heart.”

‘You already have my heart’ Emmett says to himself; trying not to smile to show his satisfaction with her comment. “There was no need to trouble yourself” he responds to her. He only purchased the food two days prior to the wedding. Emmett prefers to eat out but decided to get some supplies in case she wanted to cook.

“It’s ok; I was cooking some for myself. I figured I should cook some for you too” Simone explains, placing the bacon, eggs, toast, and mushrooms on the table for Emmett to help himself to some breakfast.

“Thank you” he says, reaching out to grab her hand; before quickly retracting it again. ‘No; she needs to tell me’ he reprimands inwardly.

‘I don’t bite’ Simone sighs in her mind; watching Emmett pull back his hand. “You’re welcome” she says with a smile, taking a seat opposite Emmett at the table and placing a piece of toast, bacon, eggs, and a few mushrooms on her plate. “Do you have anything planned for today?”

“Not particularly” he replies, putting a piece of bacon in his mouth. “This is really good” he adds, swallowing.

“Don’t act so surprised. I would cook for Dad and me. Especially when he needed to work late” Simone huffs, taking another bite of her eggs.

“I wasn… I mean I never… Do you have anything planned?” Emmett questioned, noting her giggles as he was trying to defend himself; realising she was toying with him. ‘The little minx is going to cop it, when I’m able to punish her for teasing me’ he grins at himself.

“I have a few weeks off work. I wasn’t sure if you needed to go into work today or not. If you don’t, we could go to the mall. I would like to get a warmer blanket. The one on my bed was a bit light for how cold it’s getting lately” Simone answers Emmett’s question.

Emmett looks over to Simone; keeping his face neutral from the small amount of guilt he was feeling. ‘You could have come into my room to share my blanket’ he contemplates to himself. ‘That was the plan.’ “I also have a few weeks off work. I thought it would be a good time to get reacquainted. We can go to the mall.”

With that settled, Simone picked up her plate and took it back to the kitchen to rinse and place it in the dishwasher. As she was heading back to her room, her phone starts to ring “Tiff; what’s up?” she answers after seeing the caller ID.

“Nothing. I wanted to see what your first night was like as a married woman” Tiffany responds down the receiver.

Rolling her eyes at her best friend and shutting her bedroom door behind her, she answers; “It was interesting” Simone tells Tiffany.

“Interesting? What do you mean, interesting? He didn’t hurt you? Did you have a night of passionate sex?” Tiffany asks, sounding annoyed Simone didn’t elaborate with her.

“Nothing like that Tiff” Simone huffs at her friend’s bluntness. “He keeps staring at me. Not in the uncomfortable stalker kind of way. It’s like he wants to tell me something but then changes his mind.” Simone sighs, not knowing how she feels about it.

“Did you ask him?” Tiffany questioned.

“No” Simone whispers down the phone. ‘I did ask him if he wanted anything. He replied he had everything he wanted. I think he was waiting around to see my reaction to the shoe box though’ she thinks to herself. “Oh, he gave me my Barbie dolls back.”

“What? You are telling me he had your Barbie dolls for 15 years?” Tiffany choked; her surprise coming down the receiver. ‘That was sweet of him’ she adds in her mind.

“Yeah. He said when he was sent overseas; Paul was throwing all his stuff away. He hid them in his suitcase on the hope he could give them back to me” Simone explains, her face going flush about what happened next. “Then he…” she trailed off.

“Then he, what?” Tiffany asks her, hoping to hear some juicy gossip.

“Then he retreated to his room” Simone replies, catching her sentence before it was too late. ‘That was close’ she chastises herself.

“To his room? You aren’t sharing a room?” Tiffany scoffs at her friend; feeling annoyed she must tell her what to do. ‘She should stop lying to herself and just admit she loves Emmett. That is why she went ahead with the wedding. She didn’t know I was watching her; but I saw the dreamy looks she gave when she would receive an email or text message from him.’

Secretly, Simone was curious about whether her and Emmett would share a bed. She was also relieved he had a separate room for her. “You know our marriage isn’t the norm, Tiff. Yes, we kept in touch with emails and a few text messages here and there. I wouldn’t presume anything at this stage.”

“Are you saying there may be a possibility in the future?” Tiffany remarks, smirking to herself.

“I am not going to deny nor confirm a possibility of a shared bedroom in the future” Simone responds to Tiffany. She has done numerous interviews, learning to answer questions which will leave everyone guessing.

“Damn, supermodels and their answering techniques” Tiffany spits as Simone laughs down the receiver.

“I have to get going. Emmett and I are going shopping” Simone notifies her friend. Both ladies say their good-byes before Simone hangs up her phone and places it down on her bed.

Sighing inwardly; Simone walks over to her wardrobe and grabs some clothes before heading to her bathroom to have a shower. ‘I don’t know what I am feeling. I need to know before I can tell Tiffany anything’ she explains in her head.
