Chapter 18

I wish my dad would have pretended what he saw never happened. I was seated at the dinning table with him when Mason walked in.

"Sleep well, Mason?" he asked as Mason took a seat at the table.

I thought he was going to flush with embarrassment, but instead, he regarded my dad with a shake of his head.

"A little jet lag." Mason says.

Then Mason's dad joins us and my dad keeps quiet not mentioning anything, he doesn't even mention it to my mom or talk to me about it which makes me super grateful.

After breakfast my dad asks Mason to help him with the Christmas lights on the balcony and I panic at the thought of them being alone. I watch them from inside the glass windows, my dad talks first then Mason talks and finally Mason stepped over to my father and shook his hand, saying something that only my father could hear. I tried to read my father's expression, but he kept a tight lid on it. My father is almost as good at hiding his thoughts as Mason is.
