LEAH'S POV

Knock! Knock!

I tapped on Sophie's door gently. No response.

I tapped gently. Again.

Still no response. Then I pushed the door and walked in. I could hear her in the shower, singing at the top of her voice.

I couldn't help smiling. I love a peaceful and happy family. I sat on the bed. Waiting for her to finish. I took that moment to admire her room.

I love the details of her room. Purple girlies will go the extra length to look purple. Her room is beautiful. I'm jealous. But I don

DAMIEN'S POV “Let's go” Leah calls out already by the door. It's been almost a week since she made that ridiculous request but I have no choice but to fulfill her wish. “Coming” I say, dragging my feet. I've been giving her excuses since then and I've run out of more to give so I have no choice.“You seem too excited for someone putting themselves in danger” She rolls her eyes. "I'm not excited. I just want to get this done. There's a difference." "Is there?" She grabs her jacket and pulls it on. "You've been stalling for a week, Damien. I've been patient. I've waited. Now I'm done waiting, are we going or should I figure it out myself?" I sigh and grab my keys. "Fine. Let's go." The drive to the gun shop is quiet. She stares out the window, her fingers tapping on her knee. I could feel how nervous she was. "You don't have to do this, you know," I say. "Yes, I do." "You could let me protect you." "And what if you're not there?" She turns to look at me. "What if something h

ELRIC'S POVI drove to my father's estate and everywhere was quiet. I had told the servants to take a day off. I needed to be alone.I walked in, closed the door behind me, the sound echoing off the walls, and headed for my father's study.Everything was exactly as he left it. The half-empty glass of whiskey sat on the table, the ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts.I walked around his desk, running my hand across the back of the chair where the leather had worn smooth from years of him sitting in it.I could almost see him sitting there, saying, "You're late, boy. I was starting to think you weren't coming."But he wasn't here and I would never get to see him again.I walked through the rooms, touching things he touched. The worn leather of the couch. The cold metal of the lamp. The rough wood of the table where we used to argue about everything and nothing.I stopped in front of the mirror in the hallway. The man staring back at me looked like a stranger, with unkempt hair and

LEAH'S POVWe stayed there for a while watching the sunrise before turning and heading back home. The sky turned from pink to gold, and the waves kept rolling in as if nothing had changed, as if the world hadn't lost someone.Elric was nowhere to be seen after he left the hospital. He must be devastated. He couldn't even lay his dad to rest properly. No matter how much I hated Samson, he was still Elric's father and he must be in as much pain as I am.I picked up my phone and dialed his number, but he didn't answer. So I let him beFunny how family bonds work. No matter how disappointed you are in them, when something tragic happens you want them back. You want them to keep being a disappointment as long as they are fine.My relationship with Victor has. It has always been rocky but there was a time it used to be good. A normal daughter and father bond was the time when he used to drop me off at school and ask how my day was when he came to piçk me up and we'd go get ice cream.Ba

LEAH'S POVThe drive back to the safe house is quiet. I look at Sophie in the mirror and see tears on her face; she covers her mouth with her hand, trying hard not to make a sound.I want to reach back and hold her, tell her it's going to be okay but I can't. Because it's not okay and it might never be okay again.Mom sits beside Sophie in the back seat, staring out the window. Her face is pale and her eyes are red. She hasn't spoken since we left the hospital. Emily reaches from behind my seat and holds my hand but she doesn't say a word. There was nothing to say.I stare out the window and watch the city blur past but I don't see any of it. All I see is my father's face. The smile on his face when he'd pushed the hair off my face and he said, "Dad? You haven't called me that in ages."I should have said it sooner. I should have said it years ago. I should have forgiven him when I had the chance. But I didn't. And now he's gone. When we pull up to the safe house, we all get out of

DAMIEN'S POVThe hospital waiting room is cold and bright and I sit in a hard plastic chair with my shoulder throbbing and my hands still stained with Victor's blood, watching Leah stare at the floor like she's trying to disappear into it.She hasn't moved since the doctor told her the news sits there with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around herself, her eyes red and swollen, fixed on nothing.I want to say something. I want to tell her it's going to be okay but I can't because it's not okay and it might never be okay again.I pull out my phone and dial Marcus. It rings three times before he picks up."Sir?""Marcus." My voice is flat and cold. "I need you to find Cassian for me. I don't care how you do it. I don't care what it costs. Just find him."A pause on the other end. "Sir, we've been trying—""I know you've been trying." I cut him off. "But I need you to try harder. I need you to find him within 48 hours.""48 hours, sir?""48 hours. That's all you ha

CASSIAN’S POV The penthouse is quiet and warm. I had sent all my workers away. I need to be alone enjoying this small victory without interruptions I sit in my leather chair by the floor-to-ceiling windows with a glass of wine in my hand, watching the city lights flicker below me like they always do, indifferent to everything I’ve done to get here. I take a slow sip, imagining the chaos that should be unfolding right now, the gunfire and the screaming, the blood splattering everywhere. Elric should be dead by now and Jeremy too. Everyone who crossed me will pay the price just like them. There's a knock on the door “Come in” I say the door opens and I hear someone walk in, I don't bother opening my eyes to see who it is. I already know they're here to bring good news and I want to savor this moment. “Don't leave out any detail” I say “Tell me everything how many bullets did it take to bring him down and I hope you took video of Jeremy after he was injected. I'll love to watc
