CHAPTER 41 - PRETTY STRICT

last update Last Updated: 2025-05-18 21:41:13

(Vivian’s POV)

I watched Kai as he talked with his friend. Somehow, one of the guests at Sophia’s birthday party turned out to be Kai’s college friend. And I had let them chat while I enjoyed the cake and drinks provided at the dining table.

The event became livelier after Sophia cut the cake with Adrian. And at that moment, several pairs of eyes turned to me, followed by murmurs that escaped their lips.

But I felt surprisingly calm because when that happened, Kai was right beside me, holding my hand tightly as if it were a charm he had given me on purpose.

And it worked.

I remained calm throughout the party.

“Are you okay?” Summer asked as she approached me with a drink in her hand.

She placed it on the table behind me and stood beside me. We both stared at Sophia and Adrian, who were busy chatting with their friends, showing off their affection, shamelessness, and arrogance, right in front of me.

“They’re putting on quite a show,” she muttered.

“Well, thanks to Kai, everything felt

(Vivian’s POV)Adrian’s grip on my wrist tightened. I winced, trying to push him off, my heart pounding in my chest.“You’re crazy!” I hissed, glaring at him. “Let me go!”But instead of backing away, Adrian shoved me harder against the wall, his face twisted in rage.“You lied to me,” he spat. “You said you and that bastard had nothing going on. And now you show up with him? Holding hands like some perfect couple? Are you trying to humiliate me, Vivian?!”I clenched my jaw, shoving at his chest, but he wouldn’t move.“What I do and who I come with is none of your business!” I snapped. “You’re not my husband anymore, Adrian! We’re divorced, remember?!”His eyes narrowed, lips curling in disgust. “Oh, so you are sleeping with him. That’s what this is, right? That’s why you’re parading around like some cheap woman in his jacket.”I gasped. My entire body stiffened.“How dare you…” I whispered in disbelief.“You really want to play the victim now?” he sneered, his breath hot against my s

Sophia laughed, but it was forced—more like a scoff than genuine amusement.“Wow… you’re quite bold, aren’t you?” she said, brushing her hair back arrogantly. “But let’s see how long that confidence lasts.”I wanted to roll my eyes, but I held it in. I couldn’t give her the satisfaction of knowing she was getting under my skin.Kai didn’t flinch. In fact, he leaned in a little closer to me, his arm still wrapped securely around my waist, like he was staking his claim.“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” he replied coolly. “Especially not to people who throw away diamonds thinking they’re just glass.”Adrian’s jaw twitched.I could feel the air shift around us—thick with tension, heavy with unspoken things. Summer was still chatting with someone near the buffet table, completely unaware of the storm brewing just a few steps away.Kai’s grip on my hand stayed firm, steady. He wasn’t nervous, not even slightly. The way he looked at Adrian—it wasn’t hostile. It was worse. He looke

(Vivian’s POV)The car ride to the party was quiet. Tense.Kai drove with one hand on the steering wheel, his other resting on the gearshift, looking effortlessly composed in his black tailored suit. Meanwhile, I was a bundle of nerves beside him, fidgeting with the clutch in my lap, trying to control my breathing.“Relax,” he said without looking at me. “You’re shaking.”“I’m not shaking,” I lied. His hand moved to gently cover mine. Warm. Steady. Reassuring.“Vivian,” he said, voice softer now, “nothing bad will happen. I won’t let it.”I wanted to believe him. But the knot in my stomach wouldn’t untangle. When we arrived at the Moonlight Estate, the venue was already glowing with lights and elegance. The driveway was lined with expensive cars, guests in tuxedos and gowns stepping out with practiced poise. As soon as we walked in, eyes turned toward us.Correction: toward Kai.He was magnetic—commanding attention without trying. I could hear women whispering his name, commenting on

(Vivian’s POV)"Are you sure you want to come with me?"Kai sat comfortably on the couch in our room, staring at me like he was shooting lasers that made my red dress feel like it was melting. He was dressed in his usual luxurious and expensive suit—so charming, handsome, and striking.I was sure all the female guests at the party would have their eyes on Kai. No wonder Summer once said that during college, Kai was the campus prince, and every woman was crazy about him.Who wouldn’t be? His face looked like it was sculpted with every good prayer imaginable. And his body… Oh God! Even though I had slept with him several times and seen everything—every detail and curve of his physique—that feeling of embarrassment never seemed to leave my face or my mind. But that wasn’t the main point tonight.Kai was coming. And Summer would be there too.So, how was I supposed to explain Kai to Summer? I was still lying to her about my relationship with him. If Summer ever found out that I had a sex

  • Owned By My Best Friend's Uncle   CHAPTER 37 - BELONGED WITH ME

(Kai’s POV)I didn’t like the idea of Vivian going to that party. Not because I didn’t trust her. No, I trusted Vivian more than she probably trusted herself. But I didn’t trust them. Her so-called “friends.” The ones who laughed with her at brunch, complimented her dress, and whispered poison behind her back. The ones who watched her fall and did nothing. Or worse—enjoyed the spectacle.Sophia was the worst of them all.A woman who could betray her own best friend and sleep with her husband didn’t deserve forgiveness. She didn’t even deserve to be in the same room as Vivian, let alone invite her to some ridiculous party like everything was fine. Like the years of pain didn’t matter. If I had it my way, Sophia would choke on her own lies before she even managed to say Vivian’s name again.I stood by the doorway, arms crossed, watching Vivian sit on the edge of the bed. She was still breathless from the kiss I had stolen moments ago. Her lips were swollen, flushed with color, and her c

(Kai’s POV)“What were you two talking about?” I asked, my voice sounding heavy.I had overheard part of their conversation before I entered the room. They were talking about Vivian leaving, and Summer going with her.Was it about her meeting with her ex-husband?“Oh, it was… just a conversation between two women,” he grinned in reply. But when I looked at him sharply, that grin disappeared from his face and was replaced by a cautious expression.I hated it when someone lied to me or tried to hide something.“Kai… Why?” he asked hesitantly.I grabbed the back of his neck and kissed him. He tried to push me away, but my strength was far greater, keeping him still as I devoured his lips like I was tasting my favorite dessert.I couldn’t stop myself from touching him whenever I felt angry or upset. As if he were a medicine I had to take to calm everything down. And strangely, I always felt satisfied whenever I saw Vivian’s face flushed with arousal or when she lost herself in the heat of

  • Owned By My Best Friend's Uncle   CHAPTER 35 - GOING INSANE

(Vivian’s POV)“Have you seen Sophia’s post?”“She’s throwing her birthday party this weekend. And shamelessly flaunting her relationship with Adrian. I think they’ve both gone insane.”“No, they are insane.”I listened as Summer kept cursing them and venting her anger about what had happened. We’d been talking on the phone for an hour after she suddenly called to tell me about Sophia’s post on Instagram. She even sent me an invitation.Shamelessly.“Let it go. I honestly don’t care anymore,” I said flatly. “Whatever they do or say no longer affects me.”And I meant every word. From the moment I discovered they had betrayed me—stabbed me in the back—I had decided to cut all ties with them. They no longer had a place in my life. Not even enough to shake me or hurt me.Not anymore.“I should give her an Oscar for being the most disgraceful friend who stole her best friend’s husband,” Summer snapped. Every word was filled with fury and disgust. “Well, well… I’m sure she’d get a ton of vo

(Vivian’s POV)I leaned back in my office chair, massaging the bridge of my nose as my client spoke about the color tones they wanted for the art exhibition. Warm neutrals. Subtle gold accents. "Nothing too flashy, Vivian, you understand, right?"“Of course,” I smiled, jotting it down in my planner. “We’ll keep the space minimal so that the paintings shine on their own. I’ll also have the lighting crew adjust the spotlights so that they follow the gallery’s path naturally.”He nodded in satisfaction, and I stood up, straightening my blazer. “Would you like to see the building today? We’ve already started preparing the layout.”“Perfect timing,” he said as he rose to follow me. “Let’s take a look.”I grabbed my tablet and walked toward the door, giving my client a quick overview of the schedule as we stepped into the hallway. Just then, my secretary, Martha, walked toward me with hurried steps and an amused expression.“Miss Vivian,” she said, trying to hide a knowing smile, “someone i
