LOGINAlexandra POV
I ran out of the professor’s office with a bleeding heart and an empty place where my wolf was supposed to be. I didn’t want to be at this party anymore. I ran past the lecture rooms and courtyards.
Running in heels was no easy feat. I stumbled just a few feet from a large wolf fountain in the open grounds.
Tears stung my eyes. Was I dumb to believe a relationship between us could last? He was the Alpha of the second-largest pack in the shifter region. I would always be seen as the girl with human blood.
I didn’t know who my parents were; just one of them made a fatal error by procreating with a human and bringing me into the world. The error was so great that my wolf parent chose to give me up and remain anonymous
“Oh, there she is,” a familiar taunt came.
I looked up to see Faye and two other young women, each dressed in costumes that resembled lingerie.
I rolled my eyes and attempted to stand on wobbly legs.
“Leave me alone. Haven’t you done enough?”
Faye laughed. “Being heartbroken makes you feisty, doesn’t it?”
The girls behind her snickered. Faye was one of the few powerful she-wolves in the shifter region. It made her popular, protected and entitled. She was my polar opposite.
“I can’t do this right now, Faye,” I spat.
She crossed her arms over her red bunny bodysuit that had been discarded on the floor while my mate rammed her from behind. The images flashed in my mind, creating a new wave of nausea.
“Did you really think it was going to last?” She spat.
I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat.
“An Alpha like him would only use you as a sloppy fuck. How many girls do you think he’s slept with since you two got together?”
“I-I…” I stammered.
“Exactly!” Faye snapped. “You’re worthless, a pathetic human! I blame the Supreme Council for letting you into the shifter region in the first place.”
Her voice rose above the music in the short distance. Her rant drew a crowd, which was just what Faye wanted. I attempted to walk away. I wouldn’t give in to her antics.
“Where do you think you’re going, runt!” Faye shoved me so hard my shoulder ached.
“You can’t make me stay.”
“Have you forgotten who you’re talking to? The only thing that kept you alive was Xavier’s interest in you. Now that it’s gone, you’re fair game.”
More people formed a circle around us. I clenched my jaw. I searched for a gap to escape, but more people came to watch.
The smirk on Faye’s face made a shiver run down my spine.
“I haven’t done anything wrong,” I stated forcefully.
Faye wasn’t just a powerful she-wolf, she belonged to the Onyx Pack. An ancient pack known for hunting humans. Killing people like me was in her blood.
“Bitch!”
Her palm connected with my face. Her wolf strength sent me to the ground. Gasps and laughs came from the crowd. A flashlight landed on me. Someone was taking a video.
Faye pinned me to the ground and repeatedly pounded me with her fist. I wiggled and clawed at her, but barely made contact. I felt my face swelling up with each pummel.
“Get her!”
“Stupid human!”
Faye straightened her spine and flipped her golden blonde hair behind her shoulder.
“Stop, please,” my voice cracked.
“You heard Xavier. You don’t have any protection anymore. That’s right, everyone! Alpha Xavier finally dumped the human garbage. Don’t worry, I won’t have all the fun! Finish her off, girls,” Faye ordered.
My eyes widened. I stood as fast as I could despite my aching bones. I was sent back to the ground by a girl in a fairy costume. Their wolf strength made them invincible. Soon, I was tasting my own blood.
“Hey, stop!” My best friend came running.
The girls who pounced on me ripped my costume to bits. I struggled to hide my body.
“Let her go! I’ll call the Dean! I’m calling the dean!” Emmie yelled.
The girls laughed as they eased up on me.
“Run, Alex! Get away from here!” Emmie yelled.
I got up and stumbled away to safety. My eye was shutting as I limped away. I couldn’t get away fast enough. It was too much, and it was just the beginning.
How could I endure this? I’d gotten used to the insults. Xavier was right, I wasn’t one of them. I didn’t have their strength and speed, and most of all, I couldn’t heal myself.
“The moon bath,” I whimpered.
It had healing properties. It was my only option, or else I’d have to explain this beating to my godmother, and I’d managed to keep the abuse I suffered to a minimum.
I dragged my broken limbs to the moon bath I struggled to keep my costume from falling off my body. So many people watched me limp, but no one offered me a hand.
I had no time to cry, I dragged myself until the scent of salty pool water filled my nostrils, and then I realised I had a major problem.
It was a seven-foot drop. I’d found the wrong entrance to the pool. I stared down at the sparkling, deep blue water, semi-covered by trees and rocks.
“I can’t get down there,” I said.
I couldn’t walk down there without fainting. My whole world crashed before my eyes. I couldn’t sweep this under the rug. Blood oozed from my nose, my head pounded, and I might have broken ribs. I didn’t want to die like this. I just wanted the spotlight off me.
In a wicked turn of events, the ground beneath me crumbled. I screamed, and my arms flailed.
The water below welcomed me with open arms and a wicked grin. I braced myself for impact.
“No!” Someone yelled.
I landed with a hard splash.
Alexandra POV“Can you come up with a reason they sealed it? Because the only thing I have in mind is just cruelty against an innocent half-human girl.”“Doesn’t sound good enough, cub.”“Sometimes, there doesn’t have to be this huge theory, Enzo!”He chuckled, but this wasn’t a laughing matter. I’m freaking out here. I paced his bedroom, naked, while I pondered the numerous directions my life could go.“If my wolf is dangerous, you know it gives the Supreme Court more reason to kick me out?”That wiped the smile off his face.“Among other things,” He replied.“Other things, Enzo?” I questioned. “Like what?”He sat up, “Like locking you up for the protection of the wolves within the shifter region and those in the outer region, or breaking your wolf, separation from your wolf, straight out murder. The list is endless.”I squeaked, and my temperature dropped.“See, this is why I keep things from you.”“It’s good to keep my options in mind. Banishment doesn’t seem so bad now. Can I do i
Alexandra POVDr Zaya made me drink the gross substance anyway. It helped to reduce the pain, but the dull ache was still there. Enzo moved me to his bedroom while he spoke to Cindi, Alex and Dr Zaya. All I’d wanted since I got to the Onyx pack was a warm bed and my mate beside me. Now I couldn’t even sleep. I had no idea that mark was on my body.I couldn’t remember a time when someone could have put it there. When I scrutinised it, I realised that it was carved into my skin. I rolled out of bed and walked to the bathroom. I wanted another look at the wolf seal.‘Why would someone do this to me?” I mumbled.I ran my fingers across the seal. Its powers must be weakening. That’s why I’ve been able to see my wolf and why she’s trying to break free. The doctor Ellis called to the house was going to deal with this issue. The weird substances in my blood were all connected to this wolf seal.“Cub?”Enzo’s deep, honey-smooth voice reached into my soul and stroked the tender spot.I didn’t t
Alexandra POV“Where does it hurt, cub? Let me see.” Enzo rolled me onto my back and patted me down for any injuries. I shoved his hands away.“Don’t touch me,” I winced.“I didn’t touch her,” he hissed.“You just let her sleep over.” I cried out when my abdomen jerked forward.“Shit,” I cried.“Enzo, what’s going on?” Cindi demanded.“Call Dr Zaya,” Enzo ordered. “Tell her it’s an emergency.”“You have a shit load of things to explain after this!”I wrapped my arms around my middle and curled into a ball. I panted and tried to control my breathing, but that didn’t help. The pain felt like a growing ball.“Listen to me, baby. I’m here.”“It hurts. I want it to stop. Just knock me out!”“What? I won’t do that.”“Enzo!” I screamed. He scooped me off the ground and marched into the house. He placed me on the couch. My wolf better come out today because I'm sick of this happening to me. My body threatened to split in two. Hours of trekking made my limbs sore this only added to the strain
Alexandra POV“Gross! Ew,” I hissed as I stepped over soggy cardboards and moss-covered parts of wood. The basement was bigger than I remembered it. I last crawled out of the basement window when I was seventeen, and Ellis wouldn’t let me go out with Emmie to have burgers. Now this place was filled with boxes and old furniture. The moonlight shone through the little window, which was all the light I got down here.“Keep going, Alex,” I whispered. They must be trying to get into my bedroom right now.I hated that things had to get to this point, but I didn’t feel safe anymore. Ellis had too many skeletons in her closet, and this supposed doctor was just part of her web of lies.Fear of what the “doctor” might do to me if they catch me spurred me on.I got to the window and peered out. The security lights light up the ground.“Guards,” I muttered. “Crap.”I counted at least two of them. They were far enough from the window, but still close enough for them to notice me crawling out of it
Alexandra POVDarkness fell on another day. Alec caught me off guard by knocking me out with his Alpha power, but it got rid of the pain I felt. Ellis still hadn’t come home yet. She always stopped by my room to make sure I was still being held captive. We didn’t say much to each other these days. Even after Alec’s little stunt, she didn’t have anything to say to me. Andrew, on the other hand, was livid. He was more furious because he found me out-cold I my room and he hadn’t been there to protect me. I felt bad about not being able to tell him the truth.“A wolf would help me get out of here. I’d just shift and bust out. Even a little one would help.”I examined the drop from my bedroom window. It would only get me a broken leg.A wolf would give me faster healing and agility.“Why won’t you show up?” I whispered to the unseen part of me.As expected, no response came. I felt like a hollow and abandoned shell, but I knew my wolf was in there somewhere.Something was just keeping her
Enzo POV“How long’s he going to stay like this?” Cindi asked.I could hear them from the backyard. I got up and began to pace again. It seems that’s the only thing I’m good at these days. I hadn’t shed my wolf skin in over twenty-four hours. My wolf marched around the property because that’s all he could do to keep himself sane. So far, my wolf had broken through borders and run to my mate’s house.I just needed to know she was okay. I sat in the blindspots and spotted her walking past the window of her bedroom or the living room. She looked miserable. I felt the same.Ellis was stubborn. I’d confronted her after she took Alexandra away, but she stood her ground. She warned me to stay away from her goddaughter, or I’d face the consequences. I threatened to have her removed from the Supreme Council. She laughed at my bluff. The only option I had was to storm her property and steal back my mate like a neanderthal and I was willing to do it.“If one of you told me what the hell was goi
