Alexandra POV
“You have nothing to be nervous about. It’s just a Halloween party,” my best friend Emmie said.
Easy for her to say she hasn’t been banned from every gathering since she arrived here for being a half-human.
“It’s my first one,” I sighed. “Besides, there’s a full moon tonight.”
“And?”
“Everyone’s going to be hypersensitive and strong.”
“You’re overreacting,” she said, flipping her jet black hair over her shoulder.
“Maybe you’re right. I’ll just stick close to Xavier.”
Emmie grinned. “He is your boyfriend.”
My boyfriend and the Alpha of the Iron Claw pack. Everything in the stars said he was mine because we were fated mates. He’s the one who got me permission to attend the party. Wolfless members of the pack aren’t allowed to attend events on campus. I happen to be the only half-human wolfless in the shifter region. I wasn’t wolfless, though. My wolf would come… eventually.
“Earth to Alexandra? We have a party to get to!”
I offered her a smile. “You’re right.”
The University was loud when we got there. The dark courtyards and classrooms had been lit up with scary pumpkin lanterns, and raised tombstones littered the front lawn.
“This place is wild!” I commented.
Someone had already egged the Dean’s office window. Jaxson University was the only university in the shifter region.
“You haven’t seen anything yet!” Emmie laughed.
“I wonder where Xavier is. He isn’t picking up my calls.” I asked.
Emmie shrugged. “He’s your mate, you should be able to find him.”
Sure, but the mate bond doesn’t work that way because my wolf hasn’t awoken yet.
Eyes followed us, or specifically me, in my sexy pink panther romper costume and torn tights. We walked into a classroom where a group was playing beer pong, and hungry eyes were on me in an instant. I felt like a medium-rare steak served up on a plate.
“Let’s play, Alex!” Emmie said.
“Uhh… I’m going to look for Xavier.”
“Check in Professor Rufus’ office,” a guy in a robot costume said.
Another dude elbowed him, but said nothing.
“Thanks,” I said before exiting.
Professor Rufus’ office was on the second level of the campus building. The level was empty, which made me wonder why Xavier would be up here all alone. This better not be a stupid joke by those guys.
That’s when a strong scent penetrated the air. It was almost electric. Scent and sound joined forces as I got closer to the professor’s office.
“Yes, yes!” A woman moaned.
I froze. “You like that? Damn, you’re so good.”
The woman laughed. “You have no idea how good I am.”
No, it can’t be. There’s no way it’s him.
My blood ran cold, and simultaneously, heat rushed to my cheeks. I had to know for sure, because my heart pounded in my ears and my vision blurred for a split second.
I wrapped a hand around the door and pushed the door inwards.
My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. My mate had another woman bent over the professor’s table. His pants were around his ankles, and the woman’s bunny costume lay discarded on the floor.
“Alexandra!” He barked.
“Get out, bitch!” Faye yelled. “Can’t you see we’re busy?”
Faye was my mortal enemy. She wolf hated me from the second she learned I was wolfless, unlike the many others who had an opinion she lived to make my life hell.
“Busy?” My voice cracked.
Xavier pushed Faye to the side and marched towards me. I thought he would beg and plead for forgiveness and tell me it wasn’t what it looked like. Instead, he wrapped his fingers around my neck and backed me into the wall.
“What are you doing here, babe?” He asked, amusement in his tone.
“How can you still call me babe?”
He chuckled. “Don’t be like that, Alex.”
“Get off me.”
He released me, but didn’t step back.
“How could you hurt me like this, Xavier? Doesn’t the mate bond mean anything?”
“I know you’re not one of us, Alexandra, so you don’t know our ways. I’m a wolf who has needs that can’t be satisfied by just one woman.”
Faye chuckled. “Poor little human. Are you going to cry?”
“Stop it,” I mumbled.
I turned back to my mate. “I gave you everything.”
“You weren’t supposed to find out this way. Now, you have to deal with it. I’m the Alpha of the Iron Claw pack!”
Xavier and I found out we were fated mates three months ago. It was confirmed by his pack’s seer. I didn’t have a wolf, so it was difficult for me to sense him as my mate.
Xavier curled his fingers around my jaw. “Look at me!” He shouted
I did, and met his cool blue eyes with unshed tears in my own.
“It won’t be so bad. You’re still my mate, and that should count for so much more. I’m honouring the moon goddess and doing you a favour. You’re just a wolfless, and you’ll never be anything in this pack without me.”
I was stunned as I listened to him speak.
He brushed my bottom lip with his thumb. “Don’t be stupid about this.”
He leaned in and kissed me full on the lips. My eyes widened in alarm.
“Stop!”
I pushed him. Xavier shook his head. “Don’t make a fucking scene!”
“You shouldn’t have cheated on me. I’m not worthless because I don’t have a wolf yet.”
Faye laughed. “You still have hope that you’ll get a wolf? You’re nothing but a pathetic human.”
I wish she’d just disappear.
“Reject me and get this over with, Xavier,” I snapped.
He blinked and laughed. “There’s no turning back, Alexandra. You lose everything!”
I sniffled but refused to cry in front of him. “It can’t be worse than this.”
He growled. “Fine! It’s your loss! I won’t lose a damn thing. I, Alpha heir Xavier Nightscar, reject you, Alexandra Westwood, as my fated mate.”
The rejection had been put into motion. The process of destroying the destiny-crafted mate bond was excruciating. I panted and battled the urge to scream. He didn’t deserve my tears, even though I wanted to cry so badly. His eyes burned holes into my body, waiting for those sacred words to be uttered.
“I, Alexandra Westwood, accept your rejection.”
The mate bond shattered. The connection between Xavier and me was gone. I didn’t know one could feel this hollow. Yet, he didn’t even seem fazed. He stood tall and menacing, and that shattered me further.
“Good,” Xavier spat. “Give me back the celestial ring I gave you,” he demanded.
I eyed the ring he gave me with a golden band, a deep, dark blue diamond.
“What?” It was a gift. He gave it to me when we started dating.
“It belongs to my pack. Now that you’re no longer my mate, you have nothing to do with the Iron Claw pack. You don’t have my protection anymore!”
I pulled the ring off my finger and handed it back to him.
“I hope you know what this means, Alexandra,” Xavier said.
“Yes, our relationship is over, and we have nothing to do with each other.”
“You’re back to being a half-human in a shifter world that doesn’t want you around.”
Alexandra POVEnzo announced the Luna ceremony to be two weeks from now and then he announced a ball for this weekend for every eligible bachelor in the Shifter Region and the trusted tribe packs. All that happened during the pack meeting this morning. So, this was what Madam Hera was talking about! She wasn’t a crazy loon after all.The ball surely had to be connected to one thing. He was trying to marry Faye off!“Enzo you can’t be serious about this,” I ranted behind him.Enzo marched into the pack house in an attempt to get away from me.“You’re going to marry her off? Don’t even bother lying to me. You know what Faye was worried about you doing just this! I told her you weren’t capable of that. I can’t believe she was right.”He turned around and yanked me to his chest. He stroked my cheek.“It’s not as bad as you think, Luna.”I brushed his hand away. “I’m not the Luna yet.”“Doesn’t matter, my love. You’re the Luna elect and the pack is thrilled. Isn’t it great?”I crossed my a
Alexandra POV“Where’s Faye?” I asked using the mindlink.Enzo drove the car while a beta named Rhett sat in the passenger seat. Blaze and Cindi were in no shape to get back to pack duties. Nash was in the wind or at least that’s what I thought.“Will you quit it? She’s fine,” Enzo replied.“How sure are you? Have you even checked?”“Faye’s fine, Alexandra. She went out with her friends for some drinks. She left word with the housekeeper.”“We need to talk about her. She’s not well. The omegas think so too. They tried to talk to your mother, but she didn’t take it seriously.”“I’m glad you’re taking your stepmother duties seriously.”“Enzo!” I blasted using the mindlink.“Any idea whose pack the victim was from?” Enzo asked Rhett. All the while we had our frantic mindlink conversation Enzo was engaged in another conversation with Rhett.I could never do that without giving myself a headache.“Looks like they’re not sure. She had identification on her though.”So, the victim’s a woman.
Alexandra POVThe pounding on the door felt like a hammer on my head! Why did I feel hungover when I didn’t even drink?“This better be good!” Enzo roared.I echoed his feelings about being woken up so early in the morning.“You forgot to sign the cheque for the donation to the women and children shelter yesterday,” a woman said from behind the door.“Oh shit. How’d I forget?” Enzo climbed out of bed, his cock strained against his black boxers. He dug into the bedside drawer and grabbed a pen.“This shouldn’t take long.”I watched him sign the check on a clipboard. “Send my apologies for not handing the check over in person. Tell them the Alpha’s daughter will be there instead.”“Yes, Alpha.”“Thank you.”Enzo closed the door and turned to me.“Where were we?” He asked seductively. His toned muscles and thick cock made me squeeze my legs and hardened my nipples.A hard knock came from the door again.Enzo groaned. “Yes?” He replied.“Alpha the elk supplier’s gone on strike!” A panicke
Alexandra POV“Enzo!” I hissed. “Don’t leave me hanging.”He stared off into the distance, jaw clenched and eyes vacant. I reached out and grabbed his palm and squeezed.“Babe?”He looked down at me. “I need to think, cub. I need to run. Will you be okay without me?”I’ve been fine here so far.“Celeste won’t be back if she knows what’s good for her.”My heart pounded a little harder. “What happened, Enzo?”“Not now, my love.”“Here, I found the first aid box,” the young man from earlier said, shoving the box into my arms.Enzo looked at me sceptically. “Are you sure about this?”“We can’t wait for the pack doctor to get here. Blaze needs help now. He needs a lot of fluids, too. Come on, you’re going to be my assistant.”“But—” The beta started to protest.“Help her, Preston.”He sighed, “Yes, Alpha.”While Enzo left to cool off, I braced myself for a room full of beta males who doubted me. I’d never tended to a patient alone before.“Where do you think you’re going with that? You’re
Alexandra POVEnzo and Dustin ran to the Iron Claw pack, while I was told to remain at the pack house and keep things steady. When I arrived, everyone was a bundle of nerves.I expected Celeste to be there and chase me off the property, but she wasn’t there, nor was her granddaughter.I didn’t have a good relationship with the occupants of the pack house, so I couldn’t tell what had them so nervous. While everyone kept to themselves, I thought about Emmie and how she was doing. I shot her a text, but she hadn’t responded. Azeal wasn’t at the Supreme Council meeting, nor were Emmie’s parents, which was suspicious. I went into the lounge, which was a clean and elegant room. It didn’t feel like anyone sat down in here. It was frozen in time.“I wonder why,” I whispered.A large portrait hung over the fireplace. An oil painting of a younger Alpha Enzo and his teenage daughter.“It’s just been the two of them,” I stated.I moved around, scanning the other photos. There were surprisingly ma
Alexandra POVThe doors to the meeting room were locked shut. What would Enzo do? He’s the Supreme Alpha, the strongest and swiftest of all of them in there. If he wanted to go off there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.“You won’t get in that way, but he knows you’re here.” An unfamiliar scratchy voice came from around the corner followed by a slender woman in a black fitted uniform.“Alexandra, we haven’t formally met but I trust you know who I am.”“Sybil,” I said. She ran her fingers through her blonde hair and smiled. So, she really did work here!“I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about me,” she said.“No. Enzo never talks about you.”She paused for a second. “He doesn’t? I understand though. Your first love is always the one that hurts the most.”“Or maybe he doesn’t care. He didn’t want Faye to know about you.”She smiled to herself. “So, you know nothing about our relationship?”“No… I don’t think I need to. What you had happened a long time ago. It’s in the past.”“You’re w
Enzo POV“I don’t understand you, Enzo. What’s going on? Her own pack has no hope in her. Have her taken to the dungeon,” Cindi said.I clenched my jaw. That’s not happening“Listen, guys, I need you to head back to the pack house. We can’t all be here at the same time. We still have visitors from
Enzo POV “Enzo, I didn’t attack her!”I shoved my palms into my palms. “She needed stitches and has a nose fracture.”“I-I didn’t start it. She saw the bracelet and— Wait, my bracelet. I don’t have it.” She patted her blanket and sheets, but came up empty. My fingers curled around the cool metal.
Alexandra POVA white wolf with sea-blue eyes flickered in my mind’s eye. My wolf! She was my wolf.“Hell no,” Faye growled. She was majestic and serene, but most of all, she was huge like an Alpha female. The disconnect between us was like trying to speak to someone two towns over, trying to use a
Alexandra POVI rolled up my sleeve after giving a fresh batch of bloodwork. Enzo paid the doctor to be discreet. This visit was not to reach the Supreme Court. We were given a small private room for the tests.“The results will be out tomorrow, Alpha,” the doctor said.Enzo nodded. “Call me immedia
