Chapter 89

|| VINCENZO's POV ||

The hospital room was quiet except for the steady beeping of the monitors. Sancia stirred, her eyelashes fluttering as she slowly opened her eyes. Relief washed over me like a wave, but it was quickly followed by anger—anger at whoever had done this to her. I leaned forward, taking her hand in mine as her gaze settled on me.

“Vincenzo,” she murmured, her voice weak but steady.

“I’m here,” I said softly, squeezing her hand. “You’re safe now, Sancia. That’s all that matters.”

She blinked, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “I… I remember,” she said, her voice trembling.

My stomach tightened. “What do you remember?”

Her lips quivered, and I could see the pain in her expression as she struggled to speak. “It wasn’t an accident,” she said finally. “It wasn’t random. It was Rosie.”

Time seemed to freeze. I stared at her, my mind racing. “Rosie?” I repeated, my voice low and dangerous.

“She was driving the car,” Sancia whispered. “I saw her face right befo

    Chapter 105|| VINCENZO's POV ||The mirror didn’t reflect a groom. It reflected a hollowed man in a tuxedo, a man whose eyes carried the weight of defeat. My hands were cold despite the spring warmth outside. They trembled when I tried to adjust my cufflinks, a task I’d never failed before. Today, even the smallest things mocked me.Sancia… I’m sorry.I whispered it inside my mind like a prayer, as if she could hear me across the void where my love for her bled dry with every passing hour. I had done everything to find her. Every connection, every favor, every ounce of strength—and still, my grandfather stayed one step ahead. She was gone. And now, I was about to marry someone else under the guise of duty and betrayal.The music outside began. The guests had gathered. I could hear Kayla’s high-pitched laughter echoing beyond the walls. It was almost cruel. As if the world was cheering for my collapse.I stepped out of the room and began the walk down the long marbled corridor toward

    Chapter 104|| VINCENZO's POV ||I stood stiffly, arms crossed, as Kayla twirled in front of the mirror in a white dress covered in delicate lace. She beamed, waiting for my reaction.“It’s beautiful,” I said, my voice hollow.She pouted. “That’s all I get? No smile?”I forced one, just enough to ease the tension. “You’ll look like a queen.”She giggled and turned back to the mirror, lost in the dream of a wedding that felt more like a transaction than a celebration.My phone buzzed in my pocket.I stepped away, glad for the excuse. “Give me a second.”The moment I saw the name on the screen—Dario—I knew it wasn’t good.“What?” I barked, already pushing open the boutique door.“They found the trucks,” Dario said quickly. “Police have them surrounded near the east docks. Someone tipped them off.”My heart thudded. “What?”“They’re going through everything. Shipping manifests, fuel cargo, everything. If they dig deeper, we’re screwed.”“I’m on my way,” I said and ended the call.I didn’

    Chapter 103|| SANCIA'S POV ||The room was cold again.I’d stopped counting the days. Morning blended into night in here—gray walls, flickering lights, and silence broken only by the creak of old pipes or the footsteps of guards outside my door. I didn’t know where I was. Only that I was alone.And now, apparently, I had company.The door opened with a metallic groan. I turned my head, expecting one of the guards or maybe his assistant. But instead—Kayla.Immaculate as ever. Hair curled, heels clicking like she was on a runway instead of inside a prison. Her eyes found me instantly, and her painted lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.“Well, well,” she said sweetly, “you look awful.”I sat up straighter in the chair, instinctively wrapping my arms around myself. My wrists still bore faint red marks from the ropes. I didn’t respond to her bait. I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.She walked in without invitation, her heels echoing across the floor as she looked arou

    Chapter 102|| VINCENZO's POV ||I hadn’t slept in days.The city was a blur of maps, threats, broken leads, and silence. Every safehouse I raided turned up nothing. Every informant I interrogated gave me a dead end. My men were stretched thin. Leo looked like hell. And me—I was barely holding myself together.But I couldn’t stop.Not while she was still out there.Sancia.Her name echoed in my skull every time I closed my eyes.I could still hear her laugh. Feel her touch.God. And I hadn’t even gotten to hold her since I found out.I’d tried everything.Threats, bribes, backdoor surveillance. But my grandfather—he was always one goddamn step ahead. It was like he had eyes everywhere. Like he was watching me struggle from his tower, enjoying every second of it.The worst part? I didn’t even know where she was suffering.I slammed my fist into the table in front of me, sending a crystal tumbler flying. Glass shattered against the floor.Leo glanced over, but said nothing.A quiet knock

    Chapter 101|| VINCENZO's POV ||The estate was exactly as I remembered.Quiet. Decaying. A shadow of its former grandeur—just like the man who once ruled from its halls.I walked past the rusting gates, every step echoing off the old stone path. My men waited at the gate. This part was personal. I didn’t need guns. Not yet.The door creaked as I pushed it open, and the smell of damp wood and dust hit me like a memory I never wanted. I moved through the dim corridors until I reached the room lit by candlelight.And there he was.Alessandro Russo!My grandfather sat in his armchair like a king without a kingdom. Two guards flanked him, but they didn’t move. They wouldn’t dare—not when they saw my face.He looked up slowly, setting down his glass of wine.“Vincenzo,” he said, voice calm, like I’d just come back from a trip. “I was wondering when you'd arrive.”I stepped forward, eyes burning into his. “Where is she?”He smirked. “She’s alive. For now.”“You’re playing a game you can’t w

    Chapter 100|| VINCENZO's POV ||Something in the air felt wrong the second I stepped off the plane.I had just come back from Istanbul—finalizing a ship route that would keep our oil trade running amidst the storm my grandfather was causing. But I didn’t care about cargo or profits right now. My mind was on one person.Sancia.I had missed three calls from Leo.That never happened.By the time I got into the car, my phone rang again. It was Leo, and his voice was sharp with panic.“Vincenzo—she’s gone.”My chest tightened. “What the hell are you talking about?”“She… we went to the hospital,” he said, breathing hard. “She wasn’t feeling well. After the appointment, we were just outside—I was ten feet away, goddammit—and a car pulled up. Fast. Black SUV. They grabbed her before I could get to them.”“You didn’t stop them?” I roared, my hand crushing the armrest.“I tried—I shot at the driver. I think I hit one of them. But they still got away.”My heart thundered in my ears.Sancia.G
