Anthony’s truck pulled over on the side of the road, where Belle had arranged to meet Felix. As soon as I got out, Felix—leaning casually against his car door—waved at Belle with a bright smile. But when he saw Anthony and Eve stepping out too, his expression shifted into confusion.

“I thought we were going to a café,” Felix said. “You brought your friends?”

“His brother,” Anthony corrected with big-brother authority.

“Oh.” Felix quickly stuck out his hand. “Felix, sir. Nice to meet you.”

Belle couldn’t sleep all night. The threatening photo that had been sent to her was already deleted after it was delivered, but the effect still lingered vividly in her mind. She didn’t know what to do because this would only make things worse. Anthony would openly raise a war flag against Renee. The next morning, Belle went down to the dining room with heavy steps and a throbbing head. Mr. Watson was already sitting at the end of the table, sipping his black coffee while enjoying breakfast. His expression looked brighter than usual, even though just days ago he had received a subtle threat from Renee.“Sit down, Belle.” Mr. Watson watched his daughter as she sat weakly in her chair. “There’s something important I need to tell you.”“What is it? Something about Anthony?”“I should be thanking Mr. Carlyle for taking care of that issue. He was willing to go out of his way to shut down those nasty rumors your brother caused.” Mr. Watson waved his hand dismissively. “This is something els

Anthony’s reply came almost instantly.“Stay there. I’m coming to get you.”Belle waited inside the library anxiously. She tried to act normal, even though her heart was pounding. Every now and then, she peeked out the window, staring at that familiar SUV.But the driver—or the man from yesterday—was nowhere to be seen. Maybe he was watching from inside the car, waiting to make a move if Belle stepped out of the library. Belle was still a newbie in boxing; she was far too scared to fight him. While waiting for Anthony, Belle looked outside again. Across the street, next to the car, stood a man wearing a denim jacket and a baseball cap. His build was different from that of the man he had seen yesterday. This one was slimmer, and he had stepped out of the car while smoking. But his position allowed him to see anyone entering or leaving the library.Belle felt like she was choking; this was no longer just complicated relationship drama, but planned intimidation.Renee wasn’t attacking di

Belle turned to look around the parking lot. There were plenty of students walking back and forth, but her eyes locked onto a dark gray SUV with heavily tinted windows, parked in the far corner facing her car. The engine was running, but there was no sign that the car was about to leave.Belle quickly got into her car, locked the doors, and started the engine. “It’s nothing, it’s nothing,” she muttered to herself. She drove out of the campus area, merging into fairly heavy traffic since it was already rush hour. After ten minutes of driving, she glanced at the rearview mirror. The dark gray SUV was behind her, separated by only one white sedan.Belle’s heart began to beat faster. She tried to think rationally. This was a main road; it was normal for cars to be heading in the same direction. To test her suspicion, Belle turned on her signal and made a sharp right turn, entering a quiet residential area that wasn’t her usual route home. She looked at the rearview mirror again. The gray

Bastian acted within seconds. Just before Renee’s shadow was about to cross the black partition, he grabbed Belle’s arm. Quickly, he pushed her—gently but firmly—toward the emergency door behind the refrigerator.“Go out through the back alley. Don’t run until you’re far away.”Bastian’s whisper was almost soundless against Belle’s ear, his eyes delivering an absolute command. Belle nodded, holding her breath. She moved quickly, slowly turning the metal knob and slipping outside.Just as Belle moved, Bastian pressed a quick kiss to her lips, then the door closed. Belle immediately slipped out to the side. She could hear Renee’s voice from inside the studio, louder now.“Hello? Earth to Bastian? Did you lose your voice or something? You can’t even answer me?”Renee sounded extremely annoyed.“What are you doing here? Are you hiding something from me?”Belle peeked through a small crack in the window. She saw Bastian standing casually, grabbing his black T-shirt from the chair.“Looking

“Oh my God…” Bastian exhaled in regret. In those five short minutes, Belle told him everything that had happened without holding anything back. It only made Bastian’s guilt heavier, because he hadn’t known Anthony had been pressured by his father.Out of everyone in his life, the last people Bastian ever wanted to see hurt were Belle and Anthony. But because of Renee’s jealousy, Anthony was slowly being destroyed.Bastian was ready to be Anthony’s shield, even if it meant sacrificing himself. And if Renee ever dared to touch Belle…“Say no, Belle,” Bastian said. “Turn down Renee’s request.”Belle shook her head. “How could I possibly do that?”Tears began to slide down her cheeks. A dark thought crept into Belle’s mind. She didn’t know if she could stand beside Renee as her bridesmaid, while the groom was the man Belle loved. If Belle refused, people would start asking questions. Renee’s suspicion would only sharpen… and eventually she’d find out the truth, branding Belle as the homew

Belle felt like the air in her room was suffocating her. She stared at her phone screen, still without replying. Instead, Anthony’s expression replayed in her mind—hurt and disappointed. Then it shifted to her father’s anger and the shadow of Renee’s threat.Belle took a long breath. The walls of her house suddenly felt like a prison. Her fingers moved quickly across the screen as she replied to Bastian. “Yes, Renee came here.”“Can we meet tonight? Not at Anthony’s place. Somewhere, a friend of mine knows.”Not long after, Bastian sent his current location. Belle sat there for a moment, confused about how she could possibly leave the house. Mr. Watson would definitely be watching her more closely after everything that happened.Without thinking any further, Belle finally replied. “Okay. Ten.”After that, Belle deleted Bastian’s messages since she had already memorized the location he sent. She dropped onto her bed, her mind in complete chaos. Her emotions were swirling—confusion, sad
