Great walked back and forth in his apartment, holding his phone, replaying Annie’s last words over and over. “I’m at the hospital.” She sounded calm… almost too calm. He didn’t understand.

This was supposed to be their moment. Their child. He had told his mother, his sister. They were excited. Everything was falling into place. And now… silence from Annie.

He pressed the call button again, but it went straight to voicemail.

Why is she being so difficult? He wanted to believe she was just scared, that she would see reason. After all, carrying his child was a blessing. That’s what he had said. That’s what everyone would say.

But still… something in him tightened at the thought of her at the hospital without him. What if she’s… what if she’s doing something wrong?

The idea made his stomach twist, a mixture of anger and fear he couldn’t name. He walked back and forth faster, clenching and unclenching his fist. Annie had always been stubborn. But he thought he knew her. He thought he could

Annie sat on the couch at Tasha’s house, holding her phone on both hands. The TV was on, but she wasn’t watching it. Her mind was somewhere else.Ethan’s voice from days ago replayed in her head. The offer stands. When you are ready. She took a deep breath and pressed call.“Hello?” Ethan’s voice came through the line.“Hi,” Annie said, with her voice soft. “Do you want to meet? I’m at the office. You can come by if you want.”Annie’s heart skipped a beat. The office wasn’t far, just a short drive. She hesitated, glancing toward Tasha, who gave her a reassuring nod.“Okay," Annie said I’ll come.”The drive was quiet. Annie kept her eyes on the road, but her thoughts were elsewhere. Why am I this nervous? she wondered. She wasn’t meeting him for business or favors. She was meeting him for the job. When she arrived, the office looked different from what she had imagined. It was tidy, sunlight coming through the large windows, casting a golden glow on the polished floor. Papers were st

  • Owned by the Wrong Man   Acceptance

Ethan had built an entire life around control.Control over his time.Control over his emotions.Control over situations that could spiral if left unchecked. That was why it bothered him that Annie kept slipping into his thoughts. He sat in the back seat of his car as he drove through the city. She had sounded tired on the call. Not weak but worn down. Like someone who had been holding herself together for too long.“I’m okay,” she had said. But Ethan knew better than to believe words spoken that way.He sighed and leaned his head back, closing his eyes. He didn’t even know her that well. A few conversations. And yet… something about her stayed with him.He drove into a private lounge, where he usually sat with his friend Lucas.“Since when do you look like that?” Lucas askedEthan turned around.Lucas stood by the open door of the private lounge, jacket slung over one shoulder, eyebrows raised in amusement. His oldest friend. The one person who could read him even when he didn’t spea

The hospital door slid open with a quiet hiss.Annie stepped outside slowly, her body is still sore, her head feels so light. The evening air hit her skin, like she had been away from the world for too long. She paused for a second, breathing it in. Outside, life was moving. Cars passed. People talked. Somewhere, someone laughed. The world hadn’t stopped. She wasn’t sure if that comforted her or scared her.Tasha walked beside her, holding her bag. She stayed close, like Annie might disappear if she stepped too far away.“You okay?” Tasha asked gently.Annie nodded,“I think so.”They walked in silence toward the gate. Every step felt strange, like learning how to walk again. Her body felt weak, but her mind was loud. Too loud. When they reached the car, Annie leaned against it and closed her eyes.Great’s voice came back to her again.I’ll destroy you.Her stomach twisted.“Hey,” Tasha said, noticing her face. “Talk to me.”Annie opened her eyes slowly. “He called again.”Tasha’s jaw

  • Owned by the Wrong Man   The Decision

The waiting room felt colder than before. The antiseptic smell made, Annie’s nauseous like it was pressing her to remember why she was here. Tasha sat beside her, her hand resting lightly over Annie’s. She didn’t ask questions. She didn’t try to fill the silence with meaningless words. She just existed there with her, a living reminder that she wasn’t alone.Annie stared at the floor, eyes tracing the faint scuff marks on the tile. Her stomach remained flat, still showing nothing of the life growing inside her.But inside, everything was loud. Her chest ached. Her thoughts ran like wild rivers, colliding in ways she couldn’t control. She thought of Great, his smile, the way he had acted like this child was already his. She imagined him telling everyone he was going to be a father, speaking like it was his right to decide her life. A shiver ran down her spine. She thought about all the “what ifs” again. What if she kept the baby? Could she survive the sleepless nights, the endless

Great had never felt more confident in his life.He leaned back on the couch in his mother’s living room, one arm stretched across the sofa, his phone resting lazily on his palm. The television played quietly in the background, but he wasn’t watching it. His mind was too busy replaying one sentence over and over. She’s pregnant. The thought filled his chest with pride, not fear. Not responsibility. Pride. His mother stood near the kitchen doorway, stirring something on the stove. She glanced at him every few seconds, smiling like she already knew she had raised a winner.“So,” she said finally, turning down the heat. “You said the girl is expecting?”Great grinned. “Yeah. Annie.”His sister, Maya, sat across from him, legs crossed, watching him closely. “Expecting as in… pregnant?”He nodded. “Very pregnant.”His mother clapped her hands together softly. “Ah! I knew it. I told you God would bless you this year.”Great laughed. “Blessed for real.”Maya frowned. “And what does Annie thi
