Cynthia sighed as she reminisced about the old times, touching her face and passing her hands slowly through her hair that was falling off her head in bits. Justin had cut a few strands the previous night, an action he always did after forcefully taking her. "Please Justin, don't do this" she had begged continuously but her pleas fell on deaf ears,

Justin enjoyed what he was doing, he always took breaks to chuckle and admire his work, he flogged her with his belt the moment he stepped in to the house, following that would be tying her into a bundle and kick her at all positions. Then he would take a break, his eyes shining with a bright smile. The routine had been the same since Cynthia turned eighteen seven months ago. He had once held her with love and care in his eyes, his words were soothing and made her forget her past worries. He never touched her inappropriately despite having the entire house to themselves, he claimed he didn't want to take advantage of her.

He surely played his cards well, Cynthia thought as she wiped herself, she couldn't turn on the shower because it would sting on her battered skin.

After the clean up, she walked to her closet and picked up the clothes to wear, she wore her black jeans and a white long sleeved turtleneck sweater to hide her unpleasant skin and put on pumps. She then picked up her school bag and walked out of the bedroom,

it was the last day of examinations at school and she was already running late. She planned on acing her papers because she believed it was her only option in escaping Justin's grip. He had warned her not to even try running away , Cynthia scoffed, but tears still welled up in her eyes because each time she remembered Justin, she would see his sweet smile, his tender gaze holding all the promises.

"Buzz" the bus stopped and Cynthia got in, she wondered how everything would go on after today. She closed her eyes and leaned against the seat then sighed. A few minutes later, she unknowingly slept off and had a dream, in that dream she was not weak, she left Justin and ran far far away, on the sides however, her best friend Jenna looked at her with disdain and said "you really think that highly of yourself". Cynthia who was also watching herself in her dream agreed with Jenna, it was just a dream.

Rriing ... The incessant noise emitted by the alarm clock jolted Cynthia from her dreams. Her eyes darted over to the clock before sweeping it off the bedside table using her pillow. The next thing that came into her mind after getting rid of the noisy clock was a sweet beauty sleep, "mmmm" she murmered with a smile on her lips as she slowly lay her head for another nap but her eyes disobediently snapped open, "holy crap", she cursed loudly as she lept off her bed casting the heavy blanket aside and dashing into the bathroom.

After taking close to an hour in the bathroom, Cynthia walked out looking less drowsy, she had completed her skin care routine and walked to her mini closet to grab what to wear. As she fumbled with no success in picking out a suitable cloth, the dreaded phone call pierced through the air in her small apartment.

"Come on come on please let it not be you", she muttered under her breath as she walked to her bed and fished her phone from beneath her pillow, without checking the caller ID, she answered the phone

"hello,"her voice sounded cautious.

"Pffft" the person on the other end couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter.

Cynthia feeling confused, removed the phone from her ears and checked the ID, "damn it".

"Got you", came Bernice's cheerful voice through the speaker.

"What do you want?" Cynthia asked impatiently.

"Nothing, I just wanted to congratulate you on catching the eye of Valerie Summer".

"Is it necessary Bernice?" Cynthia asked clearly getting agitated.

"Am sorry okay, but see, you reaped big out of covering for me, I guess I wouldn't have pleased her as you did if it were me."

"So you did it intentionally?"

"Yeah, Cynthia I won't apologize again, well verbally but I have a tangible apology for you...." She paused, "you helped me big time."

"What.."

bleep bleep bleep. The sound of the call being cut shocked Cynthia, she lowered the phone from her ears and looked at it then huffed. "She really doesn't know what's good for her." Cynthia said as anger boiled up in her chest.

She had been living a relatively peaceful life, in her junior year of college, she considered herself quite established. She had a job at a coffee shop that paid quite well, rented a small but decent apartment and had interned at a prestigious tech company and was told to reach out immediately after graduation. Life was pretty fine except that she had no friends and didn't bother to make any. Well, she often shooed them off intentionally, she didn't believe she was cut out for social life. Her grades were legit and all she needed left to complete her self made utopia was the graduation certificate.

However, her little beautiful bubble was burst open when during the founders' party at  college, she was informed that she had been recommended as the last minute replacement for Bernice Sage as the final student to get to stage, she was to model on stage showcasing Valerie Summer's latest piece. Valerie was a fashion icon in Denva city, respected in the fashion industry but was also an alumni of Denva University. Previously, Bernice, the school queen was supposed to do it but she mysteriously disappeared and Cynthia, who had never appeared in any Denver University activity was  forced to replace her with no room for interjection. Cynthia sighed, it was already Saturday and she had to meet Valerie.

"Good morning Cyn, how was your night dear?" Valerie's soft voice echoed through Cynthia's mouthpiece the moment she accepted the incoming call. Cynthia felt full already, it's not that she didn't like Valerie, it had just been too long since she last had someone care for her, besides, she had grown to be someone of her own, now Valerie's concern seemed to stir something in her"I had a great night," she replied, pausing and dropping the cloth she had been struggling to fold but couldn't because her right hand's knuckles were numb."Those reporters didn't come around again? did they""No they didn't, they'd eventually forget -" "don't get too cocky girl, you still have school and besides they've probably realized they can't catch you at home". Cynthia frowned, she really didn't want to deal with this today,"anyway happy Monday Cyn," Valerie spoke again after the brief silence, Cynthia smiled, her mother always said that. Happy Monday, even when she knew it was all about waking early

Cynthia looked at the scared man in front of her who now had his back against the wall and his eyes full of fear, did he not sleep well? She asked herself but she had to scare him away. "I..I..I.." "you don't have to speak if you can't, I'll still beat you up," Cynthia said, a creepy smile plastered on her lips. Timothy tried to speak but couldn't, he wondered where this angel or devil in this aspect had learned such intimidation tactics, is she really going to beat me up? "Pl..pl..pl..ea..se," Timothy stammered, almost biting his tongue.Cynthia looked at him, resisting the urge to roll on the floor laughing it out, "what are you doing her?" Timothy stiffened at the question, he looked at her, hoping she had recognized him, "y..you know me?" He asked, pointing at himself but still not relaxing. He had heard many things about this girl, but one that stood out most besides her appearance were her violent tendencies against men. He seriously didn't want to be a victim. "I asked you and

Cynthia sneaked through the emergency exits from the back of her apartment building and swiftly arrived at her door. "Maybe am just lucky, these paparazzi need a beating", she opened her door and slid in as if something was chasing her from behind. She removed her shoes and fell onto a sofa, her hands kneading at her forehead as she shut her eyes. A few moments later, she picked out her phone and turned it on.Immediately, she was bombarded with notifications and a series of missed calls, however, Bernice seemed to have been on standby. "Hello", Cynthia answered her call. "Cynthia, I knew you were cut out for this, look at what you've done to the industry haha.""What exactly do you want Bernice?" Cynthia asked sounding irritated. Bernice however didn't mind, "I just wanted to check in on you, I heard the paparazzi stormed your place. Actually you should get used to it, but, you should now be ware, there are personal things you should not let slip in public". Bernice spoke like a veter

"Come check this Cyn, how did you do it?" Valerie's crisp voice rang out, startling Cynthia who couldn't tell what they were so enthralled with. Cynthia received the phone Valerie was handing her and her eyes landed on the trending topic which happened to look familiar, "what is this?" She asked. Valerie and her assistant looked at each other then looked at "Cynthia, you don't even recognize yourself?" Cynthia took a second look at the video and photos and quickly handed Valerie the phone and calmly said, "I swear I have nothing to do with this!" Valerie stopped for a second "Cynthia did you come walking through the traffic today?" Valerie asked, her tone agitated, "yes I did, I was late and couldn't wait for it to clear up-" "good, can't you see, this video was filmed when you were walking in the traffic and it was not edited, Cyn do you know what this means?" Cynthia nodded in the negative, "huh girl", Valerie sighed, frustrated, she then held Cynthia's hand as they walked back to

Cynthia stepped out of the elevator and stood in the hallway marveling at the exquisite glass layout of the entire floor, hearing quick footsteps from behind her, she turned to meet a beautiful brunette dressed up in an expensive grey formal office suit exuding elegance with her face adorned in delicate make up. "Mrs Frost?" "Yes""come with me," Cynthia followed her through a different direction and was greeted with a more breathtaking view of the floor. The last floor of the exquisite tower was a masterclass in sleek, modern design. The transparent glass structures seemed to defy gravity, offering a breathtaking 360-degree views of the city below. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls and ceilings created a sense of weightlessness, as if floating above the urban landscape. Cynthia peeked at the floor below where she could see a model taking shots, she recognized her, it was Valerie Summer's cousin, Beverly Summer."Please come in", the assistant said pushing a door and bringing Cynthia

"Connor am seriously on my way, you have no idea what the traffic here looks like", Timothy Martin spoke on phone as he opened his car door to look at the abnormal traffic. "You know, today is the boss' first day in office-" "I know, you've repeated that close to a hundred times now, why is he even in office on a Saturday?" Timothy sounded exhausted, he had been up all night, recording the boss' return party and had not even an ounce of sleep. "It's crucial, just get your sleepy head here before he arrives". Connor was the boss' assistant. He hung up, Timothy squinted at his phone and threw it on the driver's seat, life without an assistant is surely taxing. He muttered as he scanned the traffic, leaning on his vehicle. There were all different type of cars, he began by assessing their appearances and mused as he observed the angry and impatient drivers. "Hehe, am not the only one going to be late it seems," he scoffed. Just as he yawned and turned to get back in his car, his eyes la
