Julian sat alone on the sofa in the main living room. The room was dark, lit only by the grey light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

He had not gone to the prison to confront Elena. The rage inside him was so hot, so complete, that he knew if he drove to the correctional facility, he would break down the doors.

Instead, he had driven straight to Saint Jude’s Academy. He picked Leo up from school himself, brought the boy home, and made sure he was settled in his bedroom.

Victor’s fingertips brushed against the cold silver flash drive, but his movement came to an abrupt stop. He stared at the tiny, flickering red light hidden beneath the folded collar of Victoria’s coat. His jaw tightened, and the blood drained from his face as the reality of the situation hit him. "You..." Victor whispered, his hand freezing in mid-air. "You bitch. It's a wire." Before Victor could step back or shout an order to his men, a blinding white light flooded the dark dock. High-powered floodlights mounted on top of four heavy tactical vehicles clicked on all at once, illuminating the old shipping yard in a daylight glare. Police sirens shrieked into the night air, echoing loudly off the rusting metal containers. "POLICE! DON'T MOVE! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!" a voice boomed through a megaphone from the darkness beyond the lights. Heavy police vans crashed through the wooden gates on both sides of the dock, blocking the main exit routes. Dozens of armed SWAT officers in dark g

"I need to know I'm safe," Victoria said, her voice rising slightly, carrying clearly over the microphone. "I am betraying two of the most powerful people in this country tonight. If Julian Vane finds out I gave these files to a Montenegro, he will hunt me down. The Montenegros and the Vanes have been at war for twenty years."Victor uttered a short, dismissive laugh. "You think you know about the war between our families?""I know Hector Montenegro hates Julian's father," Victoria said, pushing the conversation forward just as Julian had instructed her earlier. "Everyone in the industry knows how Julian's father almost ruined Montenegro Corporation twenty years ago. He pushed your father's business to the brink of bankruptcy. Your dad never fought back. He just took the loss and stayed quiet."A dark, sharp flash of genuine anger passed across Victor’s face. For the first time, his calm composure cracked."My father is a weak old man," Victor said, his voice dropping into a low, veno

The old shipping dock at the edge of the industrial district was dead silent, except for the cold wind blowing off the water and the distant rumble of city traffic. Rusting metal containers were stacked three stories high, casting long, dark shadows across the cracked concrete floor. A single streetlight flickered near the edge of the water, throwing a dim yellow circle of light over the empty space. A black armored sedan rolled slowly into the dock area, its engine humming quietly before coming to a complete stop about twenty yards from the streetlight. Inside the mobile command van parked two streets away, Julian Vane stared at the live camera feed. His body was tense, his hands resting heavily on the control panel. Next to him, Elena held her breath, her eyes fixed on the screen. Captain Thomas and his police officers sat behind them, watching the audio meters jump with every slight sound. "Audio feed is clear," Marcus whispered, making a small adjustment to his headset. "Victor

Meanwhile, on the executive floor of Carnegie, the heavy glass doors to Elena’s private office opened.Julian walked in, wearing a dark charcoal suit, his expression grim and focused. Behind him was Marcus, holding a secure encrypted briefcase.Elena stood up from her desk immediately, walking over to meet him. Victoria was sitting on the nearby couch, holding a bottle of water with trembling hands."Did you get the confirmation?" Julian asked, his deep voice cutting through the quiet office.Elena nodded, pointing to the burner phone resting on her glass coffee table. "Cynthia just replied. She accepted the terms. She agreed to meet Victoria at the abandoned south dock shipping yard at ten o'clock tonight. She promised to bring the cash and the travel documents."Julian looked over at Victoria, whose face turned slightly paler at the mention of the meeting."She accepted it quickly," Julian remarked, his sharp eyes narrowing as he analyzed the situation. "Whoever Cynthia is working w

The air inside the penthouse suite was suffocating, heavy with the sharp scent of expensive whiskey. Cynthia stood near the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the city, her fingers trembling so violently that her phone almost slipped from her grasp. She read the glowing text message on the screen for the fifth time, her breath coming in shallow, ragged hitches. >> Julian found out about us. He threatened to throw me out on the street and ruin my life. I don't have anywhere else to go. I managed to copy Elena's top-secret launch files onto a private drive before they blocked my access. I have the real files now. I will give them to you and your boss, but I need fifty thousand dollars cash and safe passage out of the city tonight for me and Toby. Please, Cynthia. I have nowhere else to turn. ’s mind raced at a dangerous speed. She knew her time was running out. Victor had made it brutally clear last night that if she failed to deliver the launch data, he would disca

The rusty metal door of the old warehouse squeaked loudly as two tall men in black jackets pushed it open.Cynthia was curled up on a dusty folding chair in the corner of the dark room, shivering from the damp cold air. Her clothes were covered in streaks of grime, and her hair was a tangled mess. She had been trapped inside the abandoned storage facility for hours, terrified out of her mind every time a stray dog barked outside or a truck rumbled down the nearby highway."Get up," one of the men snapped, stepping into the dim light of the single hanging bulb.Cynthia flinched, looking up with wide, frantic eyes. "Who are you? Did Victor send you?""Boss wants you back at the penthouse," the second man said gruffly. "Move it."Relief flooded through Cynthia so fast that her knees wobbled as she stood up. She quickly grabbed her dirty purse from the floor and hurried behind the two men. They walked out of the dark warehouse into the chilly night air, where a black SUV was idling quietl

Elena’s POV The hotel lobby smelled like expensive perfume and polished wood. Everything looked perfect and rich. I felt out of place. I held my small black clutch tightly. ELENA’s POV Mark came home with flowers that day. I almost didn’t recognize the gesture. He stood at the door, holding a neat bouquet of white lilies and pale roses, like a man trying to remember a role he used to play well. For a second, I saw the boy from Capri, the one who used to pull me into

Julian Vane stepped out. He wasn't in a hundred thousand dollar suit surprisingly. He wore a simple black sweater that hugged his broad shoulders and dark jeans. He looked less like a CEO and more like a predator out for a stroll. But as he looked at me standing there in the middle of the parking

ELENA’s POV The morning after the gala, the sun felt too bright. It felt like it was poking through the heavy curtains of our bedroom. My head still throbbed.
