It was a cold and rainy November night. Leah could not believe the events that had just transpired and she continuously walked around in the dark aimlessly. No real sense of where she was going or of the time, but she was numb. Numb to her emotions, her family, the person whom she thought loved her, whom she loved back; it was all a lie. They couldnât wait to betray her but, in the end, they still tried blaming her. How dare they?! Why did they?!
No matter how much she hurt, she couldnât find herself caring about the reasons. She just had to get away from them and tend to her aching heart; so, she alighted the mansion without any cares about her own well-being. She didnât care if she was going to become sick from the November cold or the unexpected rain, she didnât know how else to deal with the emotions and the emptiness that she now felt lingering in her broken heart.
The more she walked, the more that the rain and her tears stained her delicate cheeks. Puffy from crying so much, her eyes still looked around at her surroundings, unknowingly walking into a higher place in society. Women who wandered the streets, were seen to be in danger, especially if they came from a family with a deep-rooted background.
As she wandered the streets of Aurenda, a tall man walked up to her. He noticed how blank her face was and only wanted to help her. He didnât know why he wanted to help this woman; he was cold and distant to everyone, so why does he want to help someone he doesnât even know? Pushing his thoughts to the back of his mind, he approached the small woman with a solemn expression. With a gentle, but concerned tone he spoke.
âMiss, miss, are you okay?â
Only then did Leah notice the stranger standing in front of her. He was a tall and slender man with a very profound facial structure, dressed in a blue-grey tailored suit. She stared at him weakly, but as much as she wanted to take in his features, she couldnât. Her broken heart would not allow her to absorb the details of this kind stranger. Despair was plastered all over her face and she couldnât find herself telling her unfathomable truth to the kind stranger; however, she removed the despair from her face and replaced it with a blank expression. In a hoarse voice, she responded weakly.
âPardon?â
âAre you okay?â He asked, with the same gentle tone. She nodded and looked away into the distance. âIâm fine. Iâll continue on then.â As Leah attempted to walk away, he gently grabbed her hand and stopped her from leaving. She stared at his hand before she spoke again. âYou donât have to pity me. I can figure it out on my own.â
âMiss IââShe interrupted before he could finish. âYouâre going to say what I feel, so Iâll save your breath. Itâs too late for me to wander out all alone and no one looking after me, but itâs okay, I know how to get back from here. Thanks.â She gently pulled her hand away from the man and continued on her walk. As she disappeared, his assistant walked up to him.He cleared his throat before speaking. âSir, I am preparing the car to come around and get you. Would you like for me to grab the umbrella for you while we wait?â
Peter stared at his boss in silence awaiting his response. He followed his gaze and his grey eyes fell on the woman, whom was now in the distance. Perplexed, he observed his actions, but dared not say anything about them. Peter realized how gentle and concerned his expression was, but he couldnât understand it, especially for a woman whom he had never met before. Before he could say anything else, his boss gave a small nod and responded flatly, âno need.â
âVery well sir, we can wait for the car here until it arrives.â
Bewildered, Peter stood there in silence next to his boss. He was unsure of what more to say, as it seemed that there was nothing to say. It seemed that maybe, just maybe, his boss took a liking to this woman, but his reasons were unknown. After 5 minutes, a black Maybach pulled up along the curb from where they stood. Peter walked towards the car, opening the door for his boss to get in, but when he looked up, he saw his boss jogging in the direction that the woman went off to. Peter was baffled! He couldnât understand his bossâs actions toward this woman, so he had to wait until he came back.
Derreck caught up to the young woman and walked beside her in silence. Why did he feel a deep need to look after her? Why did he want to help her? He only helped his parents, if needed, so why does it seem that this woman has a hold on him? What makes her different from everyone else? Leah felt a presence near her and when she did, she stopped in her tracks and turned to her left, only to see the tall slender man from before. Derreck offered a solemn expression on his face, while the woman next to him just stared; she seemed to be studying him, or at least he thought. In a hoarse voice, she spoke up once more.
âYou again?â
âYes.â He answered, slightly confused.âIâm fine, remember? Iâll continue on my way.â She attempted to walk away, but he grabbed her arm gently.âMiss please, at least let me take you somewhere instead of wandering the streets aimlessly. Plus, itâs raining and itâs cold out. Youâll surely catch a cold if you continue like this. Since your shoes are a bit tattered, I can carry you if youâd like? Itâs okay if you donât want me to, I understand that Iâm only a simple stranger to you.â Derreck was perplexed; why was he doing so much for a woman he didnât know? Still, he pushed his thoughts to the back of his mind and stared at the woman before him. Leah offered a weak smile and responded unhurriedly. She was stunned, but a part of her knew she could trust this man, so she agreed. âSure. I can walk myself, so thereâs no need to carry me.ââVery well.â He nodded and walked ahead of her.The two walked back in the direction of the car. When Peter noticed his boss walking back to him, his expression changed slightly upon the sight, but nevertheless, he replaced it with a gentle smile.
âMr. Gray, maâam.â
âTurn on the heat, once weâre inside.â He responded flatly.âYes sir.âDerreck grabbed Leahâs hand gently and assisted her into the car and then got in behind her. He offered her his coat, so that she wouldnât be cold. Reluctantly, but gratefully, she took it from his hands and placed it in front of her. They both sat on opposite ends of the car, both engulfed in their own thoughts. Even if he wanted to explain his actions, he couldnât because he had no idea why he had become so impulsive on helping this distressed woman.

âJason should have been here already. Where is he?â She asked out loud to no one in particular.
Before she could grab her phone and call her fiancĂ©e, Leah heard a commotion coming from downstairs. She pushed her phone in her pocket and made her way out of her room. She walked out in some long-sleeved pajamas to find out what the commotion was. When she walked out to the balcony, she was stunned for a moment. She noticed Jason and her half-sister Brigette holding hands and she couldnât understand what was happening. Quickly, she made her way down the stairs and stopped in front of them.
Bewildered, she began asking questions. âJason, whatâs the meaning of this? Whatâs going on?â
Before he could answer, Brigette spoke in a displeasing tone and rolled her eyes. âOh, dear sister, save the dramatics! Did you really think that Jason was going to stay with you? He only wanted to get closer to me, but you were so blind and merely a fool to think that he could ever love you.â
Jason interjected. âLeah, I did love you, but Brigette and I are in love and I plan to marry her.â
Staring at the two people in front of her, Leahâs eyes began to fill with tears and threatened to spill onto her fair cheeks. She felt rage, disappointment, anger, hurt and pain all in her heart, all at once like a freight train. She knew Brigette wanted everything that she had, but the ONE THING that was supposed to be hers and hers only, she decided to take from her too! How shameless?!
Leahâs voice faltered slightly, but she stood her ground. âJason, how could you say you âdid love meâ, yet youâre standing in my face holding my sisterâs hand and confessing your love about her to me? We were engaged to be married within the month and this is how you tell me that you love someone else, and that bitch no less?! She took a deep breath and continued. "So, tell me this, truthfully, since youâve lied this long. When you were tied up at the office the past 8 months, those were excuses to be with this home wrecking whore and not think twice about me?â
Jason flickered his eyes anxiously avoiding Leahâs gaze, but the more he didnât look at her, the more she knew, deep down, it was true.
In a mocking, disgusted tone Brigette piped up. âYou call me a whore, but at least I know how to keep a man! Look at you! Youâre pitiful for thinking he still wanted to be with you. Dearest sister, I donât care one bit about your dumb ass feelings. Jason was mine from the beginning, but you took him from me!â
With fury and pain, Leah asked another burning question. Her throat burned from the pain, but she had to know the answer to this question, since it would be the last straw for her. She suppressed the anger in her heart as she asked her burning question.
âWhat about mom and dad? Do they know?â Her eyes burned with rage and stung with tears.
Brigette responded nonchalantly. âOf course they do silly! How else could Jason and I be together?âLeah couldnât believe that her family would betray her so easily and so quickly too! They allowed Jason and Brigette to be together, right under her nose! Leah couldnât understand the betrayal; she didnât want to acknowledge it to be true. Her and Jason were together for 5 years and he never seemed to show any interest in Brigette, or had she been blind by her own love for him?
âYouâre lying! I donât believe you!â She screamed through her broken heart.
Brigette let out a chuckle that reeked of disgust and amusement. âFine then, theyâre in the study. Go on and ask your burning questions.âWith that, Leah ran towards the study on the first floor behind the kitchen. She knocked on the door; her heart thundered against her chest violently as she did so. Her father hesitantly spoke.
âWho is it?â
âLeah.â He looked at Aria before responding. âCome in.âLeah flung the door of the study open and by the expression on her stepmotherâs face, she could tell that everything Brigette said was true!
Her fury and hurt were inconsolable. âHOW COULD YOU?!âAria tried calming her down. âSweetheart weâââDonât sweetheart me! Jason and I have been together for 5 years! Yet, instead of scolding the scumbag for cheating on me, you both allowed him to continue his infidelity. And whatâs worse is he cheated on me with THAT HALF-WIT, ARROGANT, POMPOUS BITCH BRIGETTE! Iâve forgiven a lot of things in the past; I allowed shit to slide, and ignored my own feelings in hopes that my parents would side with me for once!â Dylan was beginning to lose his patience. âWatch your tone.âShe retorted almost immediately. âDad, donât talk to me like that! You all have THE NERVE to stand here today and try and lecture me about this bullshit?!ââDarling, weâre your family, but itâs your fault for bringing him around so often!ââExcuse me?! MY FAULT!?! BRIGETTE IS A WHORE, A HOME-WRECKING WHORE!â That was absolutely the last straw for Leah and Brigette came running in, ready to pounce on Leah, but Leah was
She moved around some other shops until she was satisfied with her choices. Afterwards, she made her way back to her room and locked the door behind her. From there, she made her way to the bathroom and took a shower. Leah stayed in the shower quite a while; she felt like she needed this hot shower. In a weird way, she felt all of her pain melt away briefly. She washed her hair, her face and her body, of course. After being in the shower for what felt like an hour, Leah grabbed her towel and walked out into the bedroom and put on some lotion. She sat down on the king-sized bed and thought for a minute. It was now 230 in the morning. She pulled her long black hair into a soft bun and walked into the kitchen as she was hungry. Since it was a suite, they had a few things available to her, otherwise, she would have to order room service. When that thought occurred to her, she sighed softly and walked to the phone near the couch. Picking up the phone, she dialed the number for the front d
âMy son, you are ready. More mature than I could ever have hoped you to be. Find a wife. Iâll give you a year, I can get your grandfather to allow you to lay low and manage your own until then. If you havenât found a wife by then, letâs hope your grandfather would still find peace knowing that you will have a love like we imagine for you.ââThank you Father.â With that, Derreck stood up and walked out of the study. He was determined to marry a wife that was not at all bothered by the money or the benefits, but a wife that would love him, despite all odds. She also had to be able to stand on her own two feet and defend him when he needed her to. Derreck received the blessing from his father that he needed; nevertheless, he had to find a wife. Derreck walked out of the home and walked next door to his home. When he walked in, one of his body guards greeted him. âSenior Gray.ââJared.ââSincerest apologies sir. We are supposed to keep you in our sight at all times. When you asked, we k
âYouâve already done more for me than I couldâve possibly asked for. Iâm grateful for that; not many people would have done that Mr. Gray. Iâm pretty sure you have some place to be as well and based off of the suit youâre wearing, youâre an important and busy man. Please, donât allow me to be a hindrance in your business matters.â With a gentle tone, Derreck replied to her. âMiss Jackson, respectfully, I am offering to take you to your place of work. If you do not want me to accompany you, I can have someone come and get you instead of you finding other ways of getting there. Besides, itâs basically impossible to hail a cab here.â Leah revealed a grim expression. He was right; this was the upper echelon and there were NO cabs or any form of travel service around. She looked up at the man who had helped her on more than one occasion now, and responded gratefully and gracefully. âThen Iâm afraid I will have to trouble you once again, Mr. Gray.â He let go of her wrist and nodded to
âDrive Mr. Gray.ââWhat the hell happened in there?ââNothing.â He observed her face and touched her cheeks gently. He saw the visible hand print that was spread across her face. âLeah, what happened? Who hit you?ââMr. Gray, it is none of your concern. Can you please take me back to the hotel?ââHell no! Iâll take you somewhere so you can get treated for that wound. Whoever it was, Iâll rip them to pieces!â Leah was stunned. Why was he acting like they were a couple? He knew little to nothing about her, but he was treating her better than Jason ever had! Why am I feeling like this with her? I just feel like I have to protect her, like I want to be there for her. Calming the anger in his heart, Derreck began driving back to Gray Enterprise. He called a doctor, his friend, Garrett Jones, to come and have a look at her. When they made their way back to the upper echelon and back at Gray Enterprise, they used Derreckâs private elevator to get to the CEO/Presidentâs office located on
He sat on the chair across from her and looked into her deep blue eyes while asking his questions. âHow old are you?ââ24. You?ââ26. Whatâs your favorite color?ââPurple. Yours?âBlue. Favorite thing to do in your pastime?ââRead. Give me something more complex. You?ââPlaying golf like an old ass man with my buddies or going to one of the private rooms at the lounge nearby.ââInteresting. How long have you been in business?ââSince I was 19. How about you?ââSame. At the time, my dad told me that I would take over Jackson Industries. Itâs the one thing I wanted more than anything. For 2 years, it was mine, until Brigette forced her way into the company. After that, it felt like a competition with her. Weâre sisters, well half-sisters, but sisters nonetheless. Itâs hard not to fight or be in competition with your sister and weâve been at each otherâs throats all our lives. I always got the short end of the stick. Anyway, how has work been for you?âWell, I only have a younger brothe
The tears continued to fall and the drive seemed a lot longer than it actually was. When they got back to the office, Leah gently wiped her tear-stained cheeks and got out of the car. She made her way to the elevator next to Derreck, and she grew silent.Once they got to the 22nd floor, they walked to Derreckâs office and Leah sat in the main office, while Derreck made his way to his private office. It was now 2 in the afternoon. Leah found herself drifting off to sleep on the couch. Derreck stepped out of his office and was heading to his lounge, when he noticed her small figure sleeping soundly on the couch. Her chest rose and fell as her breathing remained even; he messaged Peter and asked him to bring a blanket to his office. He also asked Peter to keep quiet upon entering. When Peter got into the CEOâs office, he brought the blanket to Derreck. Derreck thanked him with a simple nod and draped the blanket over her small figure. Derreck asked Peter to inform all staff that they wer
Hartley let out a chuckle.âSlow down son. It means that I can retire as Alpha. And yes, that means that youâre the Alpha now. But not just of any pack, the Purple Moon Pack. Your Grandfather has wanted you to know about your identity since your 18th birthday.ââMost wolves turn on their first full moon after they turn 21, however, you didnât. I figured that you never would, but we also came to realize that it was because you didnât grow up knowing, nor did you grow up with the pack. The reason you feel for her the way that you do, is because youâve found your mate!ââMy what now?ââYour mate and without even looking for her! Once you find your fated mate, your wolf instincts take over and become very dominant and aggressive in nature in wanting to protect your counterpart. Youâll have to go through training to be able to summon your wolf.ââOnce summoned, he lives in you and he will do whatâs necessary to protect her, while being an Alpha. A bit of a warning Derreck, donât be pushy a
After getting everyone to safety and initiating the lockdown protocol, Denice and the warriors checked the perimeter.âYour Majesty.â Jason began. âWe understand that you are the monarch and need to protect your people, but as your Royal Guard, you are our number one priority. We will do all that we can to find and eradicate the threat once and for all, but we need to get you to safety Your Highness.â He finished.Denice looked at him. âI appreciate you taking your role very seriously, but as you have stated, it is my duty to protect my people. It doesnât matter how many crazed psychos I have looking after me, the Prince and Princess are my succession. I donât care what happens to me and I have made peace with that.â âMate or not.â She linked him then continued aloud. âBut I will not stand in the shadows while my people put their lives on the line to protect me and this kingdom. My succession is all I care about.â Denice finished.Jason bowed his head. âYes, Majesty. We will continue t
Hello readers!School has officially started back up and I am managing A LOT better this semester than I was last semester. I had 2 math classes that were kicking my ass, but this semester my load is slightly lighter. I do also work full-time, so please keep that in mind. Now, I have made Nolan a bit more emotional than most male leads have been in other books that I've read or noticed. This is because Denice has had her fair share of bullshit. She is going to open up to him in a way that she can and only she knows how. When you've been hurt like that, it's not an easy task to open up to someone and be so open to the idea of a relationship, much less a mate bond. In my own mind, I sometimes wish we had our own mate bonds; a way to feel what the other person feels and tap into what they need, but at the same time I don't .. that's just me though.Anyway, I will shift gears and slide a way into going back to Aurenda and showing what's going on there, but I'm focusing on Denice; she's my
Denice got off of Nolanâs lap to face him. He stood up and pulled her closer to him. Nolanâs eyes were searching hers and their lips met in a fiery, but passionate kiss. Denice smiled into the kiss. âAs much as I love the attention you give me and being away from eyes and ears, we have to talk about something.âNolan pulled away from her slightly. âI could drown in your affection all day long and I canât wait to drown in your screams.âDeniceâs skin burned from the heat of his gaze and his words. âEasy Alpha. For now, the council doesnât know that weâre mates or that Iâve accepted the bond. We will have our mating ceremony once the Purple Moon Pack is out of our hair. Until Iâve told the council and the pack, we canât have any PDA going on. They would want to push the mating ceremony on me and thatâs not what I want. I want that done in OUR time, on OUR terms. I will choose you every day, in every life, every time. I love you Nolan and I know it seems sudden, but thatâs what the mate b
Denice continued sobbing uncontrollably while in Annaâs arms; she was pissed, she was hurt, but most of all, she was terrified. Terrified of losing her mate, pissed that her brother went against her wishes and waited for months to tell her about it, and hurt that Nolan walked away.It took a while, but Avery had finally caught up to Nolan. âAlpha Whitfield, can we talk?âNolan was pacing in the middle of the clearing. âPrince Avery, please let me be alone for a while.âAvery stood rooted in the spot. âThatâs something I cannot do. You need to hear the whole story; only then will I leave you to your thoughts.âAvery sat down in the lush grass and began. âSince we found each other, Denice has dedicated her life to looking after us and our kingdom. She didnât want the mate bond to hold her back and at the time, she was mated to Alpha Gray back in her home country. Denice realized that she would never be able to be at 100%, nor would she be able to be a Luna, since that isnât her only titl
The room was eerily quiet. Alexander stood with his mouth agape, Averyâs aura was shifted to one of utter confusion, Anna was in awe and Garrett stood with a questioning look in his eyes.Dr. Jason knocked twice before entering the room. Nolanâs gaze was still fixated on Denice, as he stroked her hair softly. After removing the tube from Deniceâs throat, she coughed uncontrollably. Artemis was still in a groggy state, so she couldnât mind link just yet, but Nolan knew exactly what she needed.âDoctor, can you bring a cup of water with a straw please?â Nolan asked the doctor without turning his head.âOf course, Alpha. Iâll be back momentarily. Your Majesty, after bringing your water and after youâre up for it, weâll run some tests. We are beyond grateful that you are awake, but we still want to monitor your progress and keep an eye on things.â Dr. Jason informed her.Denice nodded softly and Dr. Jason excused himself before leaving her room and getting some water for her. After Dr. Jas
After stepping out of Kaiâs room and finding a private space inside the palace, Avery, Garrett and Alexander each grabbed a drink and gulped it down in one go.Avery looked exasperated as he spoke. âAre you fucking kidding me!?! We got rid of one and now thereâs another?! When are we ever gonna catch a fucking break!?!âGarrett looked at Avery. âWhat do you mean another?âAvery sighed exasperatedly and ran a palm over his face. âRemember we told you about the war? We had a traitorous bastard then and one of the Alphas were executed as a result.âAlexander looked thoughtful for a moment. âYou donât think heâs come back, do you?âAvery looked at Alexander. âItâs possible; he does have some sort of vendetta against us, so I wouldnât put it past him. Besides, we werenât able to find him that day and we still havenât heard a word, which makes me nervous. He must still be working with someone here and I wonât rest until we find out who! Weâve done everything necessary to protect our kingdom
Dr. Justin stood rooted in his spot. Avery looked down the hall at Nolan and Anna gasped.âI will take you to her.â Anna stated slowly.Alpha Nolan took a deep breath and walked over to Anna. He was given a change of clothes before he made his way deeper inside the palace. As he walked, he was silent the whole way to her makeshift room and when he walked inside, his heart shattered, and his limbs grew heavy. The sight of his new mate in her state made the world crumble beneath him. After what felt like hours of staring at her unconscious body, he found his voice. âHow bad is it?âAvery looked at Alpha Nolan with so much suspicion; it wasnât because he didnât trust him, quite the opposite. Heâs seen what heâs capable of on the battlefield, but Denice wasnât the battlefield; she was his sister. He loved his siblings with all his heart and Denice wasnât awake to confirm the newly formed mate bond. Alpha Nolan hadnât been around her since she rejected Jake, so acknowledging that she has a
They maneuvered through the packhouse both swiftly and silently. The horrors of mangled bodies throughout the packhouse were now burned into their minds. âGet on my back and keep your senses sharp. The slightest thing you notice, you tell me. Hold on tight and donât let go. I will protect you; I promise.â He demanded Anna, his aura imbued in his every word.Quickly, she got onto his back, and they continued up several flights of stairs to get to where they believed Denice and the others to be.âI saw her go this way. Iâll finish the job when she comes out of there. She canât stay up there forever.â A voice said near the Alpha stairs.âAnna, is there another way up?â Garrett asked Anna through the link.âIn the Alphaâs office on the first floor. In the closest, thereâs a hidden elevator that can only be accessed with a code.â She answered back.âLetâs go.â He stated firmly through their link.He made his way back down the stairs and into the Alphaâs office. When they got in there, they
Garrett looked around the room calmly. âYou canât be serious D?!â He asked her full of shock.Denice sighed and walked around the front of her desk.âOn the contrary Garrett, I am. A lot has happened since I left Aurenda and Iâve had to shoulder many responsibilities, including being a Queen over this land. Avery has not completed his Alpha training and quite honestly, I donât want him taking over that pack. As a Royal, his place is here within the Royal grounds; especially after what weâve been through since I got here.â She sighed and walked over to the window. âGarrett, I trust you, along with the people inside this room. Even my grandparents are exempt from that trust.âGarrett looked somber. âWhat happened to you?â His eyes filled with tenderness.Denice sighed. âEnough. Weâve all been through so much together and they have all been patient as I sat taking shit from all sides. Avery and Anna unfortunately must be kept under a watchful eye at all times; itâs not something that I wa
