34. Separating from the group
Pressing my eyelids tightly, I was expecting the pain of the hard rock bottom to hit me any moment. But, it never happened because I felt someone’s strong arms sliding under my shoulders, breaking my fall. I ended up sitting, with the water up to my breasts.
Amazed, I turned to face my savior, and it was the carefree Josh. I gaped at him in a lack of words. He was leaning over me with care in his eyes and curls falling over his forehead.

We went back to our camp. Thomas asked Josh to join him in this small quest in the dark forest. I could not see who hit Thomas and when he realized someone punched him, he jumped on that person, disappearing behind the stage. “Oh, God! Thomas!” I yelled, rising from my chair, but my scream was lost in the loud music. Samuel must have seen my reaction because a moment later he was next to me with wondering eyes, asking me what caused me to yell. I did not answer and finally, my legs started moving towards Thomas. I went behind the stage and it took me a while to adjust my eyes and see them, dressed all in black in the darkness. The long-haired girl had her hand placed behind Thomas’s neck, her head hiding his face from me. The terrifying thing was, he did not pull away. He stayed like that with her for a not-very-short moment. My first reaction would have been to run back upstairs and lock myself in my room, but Alex’s words caught my attention. Taking some steps back, I crossed my arms on my towel and gave him a look that said I-don’t-trust-you-but-you-can-speak. He seemed to be carefully considering what he was going to say. It was a cold, fall morning and the clothes Tina picked for me were actually very comfortable. I felt cozy in the warm black vest, made of soft wool. Its treads were delicately twisted on the edges on its whole length up, reaching almost to my knees. Under it, I had a simple white button shirt, tucked in dark blue jeans. No heels for me today, as cute black flats finished off my attire. I pulled up my hair in a messy bun, banishing Tina out of my room, so I could finally leave and meet Linda. Driving with half of my attention, I managed to reach the school parking without creating a car crash.
