"Hey", a feline voice said after I had just bagged the last note I got from Ms. Adrenaline.
"Hello", I say in shock when her smooth brown face was in front of mine. I pull the arm of my bag and smile at her.
"Umm.. So Sarima tells me you're considering going back to theatre".
We start walking down the hallway towards the doors that lead out of the school block.
"I.. I... umm I'm still thinking about considering it actually". Her face twist in confusion?
"Oh", she says inaudibly before saying it out loud and I nod.
She uses her palm to smooth the front of her braids. "If you finally get to a decision I would like to know about it if you don't mind".
"Are you in drama club?".
She stops walking, making me stop aswell. "Are you serious?" I look at her stunned.
"You didn't know I was in drama club, did you? I handle lights and makeup, I'm sure, I did your makeup for Sango, you played as Sango didn't you?".
"Yes and Lola played as Oya". I was down again always thinking about her.
"Hey, I never told you how sorry I am about Lola, she was... she was nice to me, she really was".
I nod.
"So, Chidimma, do you act? or are you just a make up artist?", I ask dying to switch convo topics.
We were walking again. The sun was high in the sky and the quad was almost empty, people must be far into their siesta already.
"Oh, I'm a descent actress, I can show you a video audition I did for an instagram short film fest", She offered with a smile on her face. "If you don't mind", she added quickly.
"Sure, I'd love to see it", I smile at her and she smiles back.
"So"
"So", I reply. Silence. I steal a glance at her and she does the same thing at the same time so our eyes met, we burst into laughter, We laugh for a while as we walk to the hostel gates.
"That was really awkward", she says admist laughter.
"It was".
We had arrived at the gate that lead to the hostels.
"Hey, see you around, maybe? I'm free this evening we should be awkward again". Her smile was wide it reached her eyes, her usual small eyes were into slits now.
"Sure, we can met up at 6? At this same spot".
"oh.. that's great, see you at six Rhema". She's gone. I try not to stare at her ass as she goes but like I said I tried it didn't work.
"Brother", Malik slaps my chest. He whistles to himself. "Ayyy, she's thick, Fam. Would you hit that?"
I push him. "Her name is Chidimma. Guyy be respectful". I say rolling my eyes at him.
"I'm sorry ".
I nod. " You should be telling her that. where have you been?"
"Music studio", he says as we walk in the opposite direction to the boys hostel. We were still on our way to the hostel when two girls ran through us carrying a third girl, the girl was in a big shirt. They were struggling to lift her up. I hand my bag to Malik I and dart to help them, lifting her into my arms, her shirt was a bit damp I could feel her skin underneath, she twisted a bit in my arms that when I saw her face; Ibim. She was shivering and although it's a bit obvious that she's fresh out of the bathroom, her body is on fire.
"Thank you". They say in unison.
"Lo.....la.....lo.....la", Ibim said amidst shivers.
"What happened to her?", I asked Mina. Mina's forehead was wrinkled, a sweat was running down her temple.
"She had a panic attack".
Mofe was so focused walking ahead of both of us, she was going to open the door of the infirmary for us. I set her on the bed and she coiled herself into a ball.
"Thank you", Mofe mouthed at me before darting her eyes to her best friend. I stood there for a while before leaving the infirmary to find my own best friend standing there holding our pages.
"Is she okay?".
"Panice attack and fever. She'll live". I said and he smiled.
"You'll make a good doctor".
I laugh. "Guy, Government textbook dey my bag. Doctor for where? My pops will just cut my head of if I don't take over the firms".
"Wahala wear chains oh". We laugh and sink into small talk as we made our way to the hostel.
"Obanje!". Nicholas said as he rubbed his lotion.
"Wait, so she just dey her dey, begin to shout". Femisola quipped from the other side of the dorm room and every one burst into laughter. I was busy battling with this government textbook.
"Omo, Remmy boy, I hear say na you carry her go infirmary". Femisola said.
"Yes, she's sick oh, her body was shaking, Fam. I was scared for her".
Malik plopped down in my bed in his jersey shorts, I eyed him as he got his wet back on my bedsheet.
"What?".
I look at the wet patches on my bedsheet and he follows my eyes.
"Ahhh... guyyy sorry oh".
"Omo na Rhema bed you wet?", Femisola said and the entire dorm burst into laughter.
It was easy how everyone else just went back to their lives like our classmate didn't allegedly have a manic attack. When it was six o'clock, I pulled a shirt over my hostel shorts and pulled on a hoodie to go, I didn't know if I should wear my Nike or addidas slides.
"We want checks not stripes, Fam", Malik said quoting a line from a rap sound. White tee, black hostel shorts, white Nike slides and a grey hoodie. Did someone say Monotone?
Chidimma was already there, she fiddle with her fro as I walk towards her. She lifted her head to search for me I suppose and our eyes met, she smiled wrinkling her eyes and I notice a dimple on the left side of her lower lip.
"You have a dimple?"
"You noticed"
"And a beautiful smile."
"Well, thank you, Sir".
I dip my hands in my pockets as she fiddles with her hair some more, her hair is so beautiful.
"Well, where do you want us to go?", she asks.
"Where's your favourite spot?". A smile tugs her thick lips.
"Follow me then."

Hey, My loves. What do you think about this chapter?
What do you think about Rhema?
What do you think about Chidimma?
Do you ship them or not?
"I didn't know this place even exists", I say and she nods with a mouthful."No one in this school does", she says when she's finally done with chewing. "My brother used to be the drama club president in his set and he found the keys and he gave them to me when he graduated. I always come here when I want to go away".The attic in the drama room is at the top of the stairway leading to nowhere, well, that what I thought till Chidimma pulled out a key and fitted it into a keyhole in the wooden wall. It's a small room with a desk, a bench and a minishelf of books."Wanna see the view?". I nod.She stands up and I do too, the little window shows the sports centre of the school and the roads outside the school fence. The
IBIMWhy you texting me?This is Ibim, gotta be a mistakeI didn't reply to his text till the next morning when I was finally allowed to leave the infirmary, the plaster was changed this morning and I had to come back to the infirmary after lunch to take medications.I needed to find Mofe. I hadn't spoken to her since she walked out of the infirmary . I walked to my locker and then towards hers but I was pulled away."Hi, Ibims"."Mina, you do not just grab a blind girl like that"."I'm so sorry", she says and I nod. "I was going to tell you that Mofe left school last night and no one has
It's not a mistake. We really need to talk. I know you know somethingI stared at my phone blankly as Siri's voice stopped for the fifteenth time that hour. What do I say to this?I walk to the drama room and Chidimma's nice voice met me at the door."Hello, Ibim". Said she. "So nice of you to show up""Yes. Umm.... you said you-"."I was thinking if you've ever thought about drama club. I know you're already a pianist and you make mixtapes but I feel you have it in you"."You think I'm a good recruit for your club?'"Yes. We have drama week in March and rehearsals s
Group presentations usually took half of the first period and since this was poetry club, I was hardly interested in it. Malik and I had found seats at the far back of the hall. While they introduced the first presenter; Mofe."Hello everyone, Mofy here and I will be presenting a poem written by Sarima Egwakhide titled Texting with him". she proceeds to start her poem and soon everyone is silent listening to the words. It's a love poem from the hoots from girls and boys alike. I look away from the stage for a split second and my eyes fell on Chidimma, she smiled at me, a smile I reciprocated and then her friends; Abby and Sarima whispered something her ears then they both laugh except her who just looked at me again shyly. The whole scene makes me smile a bit before paying attention back to poetry."All these fe
Somehow, I was on my way to Drama room, we were having our first meet up today and I can hardly believe I was going through dram without her. I really miss her"Is this drama?", a voice made me lift my head. Her voice was a perfect fit for the round shape that housed oval framed glasses and a head of hair packed in a bun with glittery scrunchies."Yes...Are you signing up too?""Yes", she said falling into a seat next to me. "Have you done drama before now?".I played with the strings of my shorts, my nails were bitten back and once I noticed them I rolled my hand in a ball. "I used to play at my old school".She nods. "I hone
IBIMBevy was crying her, her voice was cracked and her sobs filled the bathroom stall, she was in. I was in the one next to hers, with my feet hugging my knees, in the most uncomfortable position on the toilet seat. I felt bad for listening to her cry, it felt like I was stealing from her, the privacy she had wanted but there I was as she cried for reasons unknown to me.She sniffed as noise made its way from her stall to mine. She was ready to leave, she flushed the toilet and her stall door opened, her feet was noisy on the chinaware floor. She walked out of the bathroom and I immediately removed my legs from their terribly uncomfortable position. I had been thinking a thousand reasons why Bevy was crying so bitterly in the girls' bathroom all day, I am still thinking of more reasons as I walk to the drama room.
Bevy fell sick the next day and the entire school was somehow aware of this, she had vomited during assembly, her temperature had skyrocketed and everyone was a buzz. Mofe stood by me, telling me everything in details; everyone was talking about her illness, rumours said she was pregnant, others said her sickness was linked with her crying fit during her presentation some days ago or was it yesterday?"She isn't pregnant", Manny said in the group."Why? Did you pull out early?", Jesse, one of the "rough" boys said. Mofe was responsible for categorising.Rough, wannabe-bad boys, etc"Shut the fuck up, Fam".No one laughs or sneers, we are all engulfed in the screaming silence of the rumours at Ogan. Bevy
RHEMAMalik and I walked to the breakfast hall that day, I was struggling with my tie when Chidimma walked up to me, her was in a high bun. She had the best hair. She waved at Malik and he replied with a grunt and walked away faster than I thought he would."Have you spoken to him?"I nod."Well, you need to , the whole Bevy thing has shed some darkness on the homosexual rumours but Bevy's gist will soon end and your best friend will be in the spot light again". She reaches for my tie and help me with it. I am too shocked by her boldness to move as she knots it. "All done". She's off her tip toes and we walk into the breakfast room."Meet you after your meal?". I say to m
