"Go, Jael," Sara whispered and smiled at me.

I received encouraging expressions, too, from my cousins, and I saw that they let Nami and the twins enter the room for them to watch me sing.

When Aaron let go of my hand, I looked at him with pitiful eyes. I don't think I can perform in front of these rich and sophisticated persons. I walked towards Rueben to get my guitar from him.

"You have to explain this when we got home," I warned him.

"There are people here who knew someone in the music industry. I don't have to tell you to give your best. Just sing like you always do, Jael. Make it worth their stare," and then he smirked and left me alone on the stage.

The lights went dim. I sat down on the stool at the center and placed my guitar on my lap.

The sigh that came out from my mouth served as my mic check.

"Whenever you're ready," I heard someone behind me.

Now, what song to sing?

I don't think I have the time to be picky on what song to sing, so I just strum my guitar and sing the first lyrics that came to my mind.

"There I was again tonight forcing laughter, faking smiles"

"Same old tired, lonely place"

The lights focused on me. I continued, even though I'm so nervous, I think I'll faint.

"Walls of insincerity"

"Shifting eyes and vacancy vanished when I saw your face"

I was suddenly motivated when I saw some of the guests start to smile and lift their phones in the air to take a video of me.

"All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you"

It felt so happy to sing and perform like this in front of a big crowd. I haven't touched my guitar for a while since the accident because I kept thinking that I don't have time for the things that would make me happy. I was so busy gathering information on the de Silvas.

"Your eyes whispered, "have we met?"

"Across the room, your silhouette starts to make its way to me"

I roamed my eyes around the room and saw this familiar man sitting at the middle part. He is holding his champagne glass, and his dark eyes were focused on me.

"The playful conversation starts"

"Counter all your quick remarks, like passing notes in secrecy"

I can't see his face properly because the lights are dim, but his body and eyes were so familiar, I think I met him before.

"And it was enchanting to meet you"

"All I can say is I was enchanted to meet you"

He suddenly stood up, and my eyes unconsciously followed him. He went somewhere where can see him like he knew what I was thinking. Like he wants me to see him and remember him.

"This night is sparkling, don't you let it go"

"I'm wonder struck, blushing all the way home"

"I'll spend forever wondering if you knew"

"I was enchanted to meet you"

After the first chorus, I finally saw his face.

This is the guy back at the shoe store and the private property!

"The lingering question kept me up"

"Two a.m., who do you love?"

"I wonder till I'm wide awake"

"Now I'm pacing back and forth, wishing you were at my door"

"I'd open up and you would say, hey"

What's he doing here? Is he also a business partner? Don't tell me he's that old?

"It was enchanting to meet you"

"All I know is I was, enchanted to meet you"

His eyes never left mine. I looked away and focused on singing. But I was scared that he'll disappear again, so I glance at him every chance I get.

"This night is sparkling, don't you let it go"

"I'm wonder struck, blushing all the way home"

"I'll spend forever wondering if you knew"

"This night is flawless, don't you let it go"

"I'm wonder struck, dancing around all alone"

"I'll spend forever wondering if you knew"

"I was enchanted to meet you"

I just need to finish this song, and I'll talk to him.

"This is me praying that this was the very first page"

"Not where the story line ends"

"My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again"

"These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon"

"I was enchanted to meet you"

I closed my eyes to feel the following lines.

"Please don't be in love with someone else"

"Please don't have somebody waiting on you"

"Please don't be in love with someone else"

"Please don't have somebody waiting on you"

"This night is sparkling, don't you let it go"

"I'm wonder struck, blushing all the way home"

"I'll spend forever wondering if you knew"

"This night is flawless, don't you let it go"

"I'm wonder struck, dancing around all alone"

"I'll spend forever wondering if you knew"

"I was enchanted to meet you"

"Please don't be in love with someone else"

"Please don't have somebody waiting on you"

As soon as I opened my eyes, I could not find him where I last saw him. The crowd stood up and gave me a round of applause. Rueben suddenly is on my side and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"You did great," he said.

"Thanks," I said even though I was half thankful and worried.

When the crowd settled, I left the stage. David was about to welcome me, but I ignored him and run towards the exit.

"Jael!" I heard Sara's voice before I close the door.

Some of the guards went to me, but I assured them that I just have to look for someone.

"Do you need our help, Ma'am?"

"Yes," I said, catching my breath. "Have you seen someone just left the room? He's also wearing a suit, and he's taller than me."

They looked at each other and gave me a confused look.

"A lot of guests are coming in and out-"

"Okay, thanks," and I left them.

I won't be able to describe what he looks like, so I don't think they can help me.

I stormed all the paths from the venue to the lobby until I found myself outside the building.

I shouldn't have closed my eyes. I knew he'll disappear!

I sat, putting weight on my legs. My gown didn't touch the floor because my heels are high enough. I suddenly got tired of all the running.

"So, you sing, huh?"

A pair of black shoes appeared right before my eyes. I lift my eyes and saw him. Because of shock, I automatically changed my position.

Rueben drove me to school today. The three of us had breakfast in the hospital before he drove us to our schools. We dropped off Sara first at her school before coming here. It's still early. We just wanted to visit our parents together at the hospital because this is the only time Rueben is free. After this, he'll go back to the company to finish his work."How's school?" He asked."Fine," I answered while finishing my drink. "Zaron's here, too."He looked at me for a while. I'm sure he has the same questions I have. But isn't life making it easy for me? I mean, I don't have to worry about not meeting him again or joining the band because whatever happens, I can always find and meet him in school.

  • Perfect Harmony   Chapter 21: Need

I stared at my notebook blankly. I ripped it off as soon as I finished composing the first verse.Something doesn't feel right. I can compose songs before. They were all fine whenever I try to put it up with some tune and sing it but now, it's been weeks since Zaron challenged me to write an original composition and I haven't gone back to him yet.Where is he, by the way?Their band's name trended on Twitter when they disbanded. Kit left the country already and the other members Nico and Eli were to focus on their studies. What's his plan? The article never mentioned his name."Are you done with the activity, Jael? I need to pass it now to the faculty," one of my classmates went to me, asking for my paper.

  • Perfect Harmony   Chapter 20: Composition

Zaron's eyes never left mine until our food has been served. He keeps on making me feel that I'm not welcome here and why did I even bother."So... Jael," Kit Navarro, who is playing the bass guitar turned to me. He's sitting beside me and among all the members of his band, he's the one who's the most interested in me.He keeps on talking to me and asking questions."I wonder what's your relationship with Zaron? Obviously, you're not friends because you both hate each other," and he followed it with a laugh."We're not.""Not a chance."Zaron and I answered at the same time and then our eyes met again.

I went to the university as early as I can to proceed with everything I need to do for the enrollment of incoming Grade 12 students.Abigail is already enrolled and she chose a different specialization so it doesn't matter at all.The procedure was easy. I was guided by kind and considerate staff. I'm familiar with how it works because I finished my 11th year here.I submitted my requirements, took my photo for ID, fit some uniforms, and had a short conversation with my classmates. I am not really close with them. Abigail and I are classmates last year so we did everything together. I considered them acquaintances, not friends. Most of them are just after my family's popularity. Abigail and all of my other cousins are so used to it.

He called me several times earlier because he wants to know my whereabouts but I couldn't speak properly to him on the phone because of what I just saw.I was so close to her. I could've gone to her and ask her if she's my father's mistress. But when she clung onto Zaron's arms, it's like I was trapped between prioritizing my anger or understanding what is going on."I saw Lucille de Silva..." I said without looking at him.

  • Perfect Harmony   Chapter 17: Lucille

The three of us are sitting at the living space Mr. Ramos had in his office. Zaron and I are facing each other while Mr. Ramos is in the middle.Back when I visited their website I'm not sure which is his name from the list of members of his band, Blank Pages. Their names are not organized below their faces so I did not care to search his identity because I knew this day would happen, that we will meet again. And unfortunately, I am right."Zaron..." the old man breathed. "We just had a conversation earlier about your naughty tricks and impulsive actions, did we not?"That's why he was asked to pick me up from the lobby? Maybe he was currently talking to Zaron that time when the lady from the counter called him.
